claudie
Hey, did anyone else encounter the Hummer H2 on 711 yesterday? When we went by him he was stuck. He was a couple of miles north of the 704 intersection, trying to head south on a beautifully groomed trail.

Grimm
Just curious, can a driver be charged for driving on OFSC trails? Many times the trail is an actual road in the summer, just not plowed in the winter. I came across someone driving on the trails (road) this weekend in Deep River. I didn't want to stick around and help a moron if/when he got stuck. In fact, same day, riding the trails alongside a road, saw a car backed in a laneway, or so I thought. It turns out he was blocking the trail completely. I only noticed it as I went by, then I jammed on the brakes too hard, slid on the ice under the plowed road, went sideways and flipped the sled on it's side. I wasn't happy. By the time I righted my sled, the driver was gone, so I couldn't give him an earful. Mind you, it partly was my error for the aggressive stop, but it never would of happened if he wasn't back onto the trail.

yamahas
I have come across tire marks on the groomed B trail between pembroke and barrys bay. Was a good km or two long, not fun. Got to make sure we don't accidentally give and earful to a land owner. That would probably cause a few land owners to be upset.

b-bry
Did you get a license plate? What day ? Sunday, around 3pm. I should've taken a picture of the H2 with the driver in it. About 2 miles south we encountered a fellow walking with 2 shovels. He asked how far the Hummer was.

He groomed that night anyhow so no harm done but I would bet that the dummy in the Hummer won't do that again.

I didn't want to stick around and help a moron if/when he got stuck. Yes...Seen it done, guy that worked the line at my last company got ticketed about 6 years ago. I passed him one Sunday afternoon stuck on the main trail with his Jeep about 500 feet down the trail. He had no idea it was me when I went by him as I was all geared up. When I got to the next side road there was an OPP and a local towing company that specializes in off road recovery waiting for him. Gave the tow truck driver a ride down the trail with his cable so he wouldn’t have to walk in the snow. Heard everyone talking about it a few days later at work, cost him $750 for the tow and $1500 in fines. OPP must have been a sledder because he hit him with everything from trespassing, to unsafe operation of a motor vehicle. The guy went to court and the judge (who must sled too) upheld all the fines. 02Sled
passing on a corner ...... shooting a blind..... um modified pipe...no safety gear... speeding.... the list goes on Even if it is a summer road but closed in the winter there is a fine associated with driving on a closed road. There is also the tresspass if it is a trail since they don't have a legal right to be there. The same as an ATV on an OFSC trail.

As far as I know, If it's a "Road" on Crown Land, chances are it's not "Closed", just not maintained in winter. The legally "Closed Road" is actually pretty rare and usually only done in emergencies. I think if it was a legally closed road, it would also be "closed" to snowmobiles (not 100% sure on that). Also, It's only a trespass if it's Private Land. Don't forget, anybody can take a snowplow and turn a "trail" back into a "road" on Crown Land anytime they want to, as those areas that have logging operations, mining activity, etc. know all too well. Running Wild
Really? How do you know this? Friends were there and were talking to him and he said he owned the Ell Mar Motel. I think they gave a ride to the other guy (possibly his son) with the shovels. You probably know him. Call him and see what he says about it. I thought I sent a message like this after you posted this AM but I guess I didn't do it right. RW

BP Not true on Public land too , as long as the club has a land use agreement in place they are the acting adjents for the landowner , Private , Crown , District , Township ....... Our club repeatedly gets asked by the MNR to keep the quads and 4x4s out of the crown area we have an agreement with .... If the snowmobile club has exclusive land use agreements (Terms both parties agree too) in place on crown land it is trespassing ...

Maybe for a "trail" on Crown Land, but I've been with the MNR for 25 years, and I have never heard of an "exclusive use agreement" for anybody for a ROAD on Crown Land. People would be lining up to shoot us for that up here. That being said, I suppose other Districts might do things differently, depending on the local issues. Just going by my experiance.
