Winter 2026 - Not a single open trail on the maps in Carden or Dalton.  Used to have great trails in Dalton (Sadowa Rd).  Almost all trail signs still left in place except at the bottom of cty6/46 (never removed) for 5 years. Lots of trees down etc from the last big ice storm. Nobody replied when you try to volunteer.  Even the Orillia club didn't bother to reply.  Have chainsaws, tractor etc. and willingness to help.  Orillia club hosting meeting tonight 9/17, they didn't bother to notify me even though said they would email (I don't do social media).  I'm not going to beg them to help.

Don’t forget no trails in 2025 either!

Maybe the new OFSC president will help?

The Orillia club is working hard to get the main trails of old Carden up and running this season.   If you want to help, drop an email to  jearl@sledorillia.com - Jeff Earl.

I'm not going to hang out on the forums too much guys, but I want you to know I'm here :) :)

Its a long process to restart the club and establish trails. They are working to get agreements in order and City of Kawartha Lakes is not very quick to sign an agreement and its an election year to slow things down even more (in my opinion).

When I was working on our club agreement it took an extra month due to missing a deadline for council meeting. Our trails didn't open until end of January. All good now.

Also kudos to Jeff Earl for taking on the Carden Trails' "adventure". 👊💪   I'm sure he is having fun dealing with the CoKL as well. 🙄

If you're in the area, please give him a hand!

Thanks so much Jerry.    Some of the trails (Dalton/Carden) still look fairly well established with not alot of timber obstructions. Took a walk up the old trail off Sadowa Road (used to run to the beaver ponds).  ATVs have been using it all along.  Signs are still there.  Fingers crossed I can pull out of my driveway and straight to trails.  Permit already bought.

So I am kind of confused.

Can the Orillia club sign a land use agreement with the City of Kawartha Lakes?

Or is that on the OFSC to negotiate and sign?

Unless something has changed, the club putting the trails in is responsible for getting the land use agreements signed.

So for Kawartha Lakes there will be 3 different negotiating bodies representing 3 snowmobile club’s negotiating for 3 different contracts within the Kawartha Lakes area?

And potentially 3 different contracts for snowmobiling within the Kawartha Lakes area?

what could go wrong with that!!

Needs to be a agreement between the 2 districts on behalf of the clubs, when dealing with this sort of thing.

OFSC can be used for resources, but the negotiation process for those agreements untimately fall in the club/district hands.

I know of one situation where 2 clubs were looking for approval in one municipality. The OFSC requires only one MOU to be signed for all trails in the and in that case the Municipality was OK with that for both clubs. Individual municipality requirements may vary.

CARDEN TRAILS UPDATE:

For all of you that have patiently waited, we thank you for sticking with us! Many thanks to our VP and his dedicated efforts - we are now able to prep the East Side Carden Trails ahead of sled season!

Work Parties are Needed!

We would like to set multiple groups up working in various locations along the trail network.

Many hands make light work ... and we have lots to do!

The following weekends, we are permitted to do trail work on the B104 and 100 Trail:

October 17 & 18

October 24 & 25

October 31

PLEASE COMMENT ON THIS POST OR EMAIL KATIE (katieb@sledorillia.com) to let us know if you are able to help with trail prep for B104 & 100 on any of these dates.

We will set work parties in groups - NOBODY WORKS ALONE.

If you head out to the trail network within your own group, please email Katie - we need to know you're on the trail, and appreciate your feedback on progress!

Thank you so much - we cant wait to see everyone on the trails! :)
