Spiderman Posted September 11 Posted September 11 What do you guys think? Should I make the jump - or stick with the 129? 90% of my riding is ON trail - off would be a few fields and lakes. Quote
stoney Posted September 11 Posted September 11 You buying a new sled ?!?!?!? 137" - extra 4" of track on the snow and 1 more lug when you think about it......surprised 129" is still sold based on this. Quote

I am looking with some intent now. My sled is old. It has some cosmetic issues that bother the crap out of me - I looked at the cost to replace those parts and I am not interested in putting that kind of $$ into a sled that old. So...I am shopping. Certainly looks like I missed the boat on the non-currents - what is left is not really "great" deals. Quote

Ya, I thought the reports were the dealers ended off the season on a good note with the winter we had and sold many of the non currents. New iron either have or will arrive soon and if the season starts off slow, anything that is still left over, dealers would like to be gone......so a bit of gamble to wait or pull the trigger I guess. @scottyr was saying his dealer has reported that some of their Spring check sleds have already had their owners walk away..... RAMSOMAIR Posted September 11 Posted September 11 Go Poo, Cat likely won't be around that long. Quote

Baylaker Posted September 12 Posted September 12 137 forsure, as much as I loved my 129 for its “short track” feel and playfulness, the 137 has a better ride imo 2 Quote
Sksman Posted September 12 Posted September 12 Mostly trail riding 137 VR1 with Dynamix suspension. some playing on lakes then possibly 146 Assault. Still a very capable trail sled was suspension set up correctly. Quote

If you’re going to a newer chassis chances are it will handle better with a 137 than your old 129 did. 137 is today’s trail sled. They work well. 2 Quote

Rides like a shorter track machine. That’s been the strength of the Polaris Assault. Quote

If anything I would tip toe into at 137 - think 129 to 146 may be too much and could prove to not be to my liking. I am a guy who likes very little change - and usually am quite comfortable sticking with what I know works and what I know I like. Going to a 137 would be a huge thing for me mentally 1 Quote
yamadan700 Posted September 13 Posted September 13 2 stroke or 4 stroke? Front end weight makes a difference. FWIW. Had a 146 Pantera 7000 and the "flickability" between it and a 137 ZR9000/7000 are marginal. Ride was good with both, probably a bit better with the Pantera. The Pantera did push more in the corners tho, even with the 2up seat and bags off. Added note, my wife preferred driving the Pantera than the ZR7000iACT she has now. Can't compare to a newer 2 stroke as I have no experience on them. I still miss my old Sabercat 700. Worked great everywhere. Bonus is you can actually pick up a 2 stroke if it gets stuck.😉 Quote

scottyr Posted September 13 Posted September 13 I dont notice much difference from a 129 to a 137 but I sure like the fact that the 137 has another set of Linq clips. That alone is reason for me to go with the longer track. 5 Quote

I went shorter to lighted it up in case I get jammed up, no other reason. Prefer the 137 for cargo space. Quote
Bryan XC700 Posted September 18 Posted September 18 137 hands down, you won't be disappointed. You won't even notice the difference in track length. I went from 120 Pro R to 137 850 XC in 2021 & haven't looked back. The biggest question for you now is lug height. I've got 1.35 on both my XC 137 & my XCR 136, both sleds are quite capable off trail as well as long as you know the throttle is your friend!! 1 Quote
crispy Posted September 21 Posted September 21 I got talked into the 137, no regretz. Love it 1 Quote
Spiderman Posted September 27 Author Posted September 27 Okay, now…….. Any reason to be afraid of the 2026 version of the Cat 858 engine? 1 Quote

Long track better ride and its not so long as to affect rideability in my opinion. 1 Quote
Spiderman Posted October 4 Author Posted October 4 Really flipping back and forth on Cat or Poo. pre 2012 and this Cat I have, it was a no brainer. now it’s been tough. the other 4 sleds in our stable are still Polaris. my cat has been a terrific sled for me. tough call here Quote
