tricky Posted March 15 Posted March 15 Does anyone know why A108, A109 and L162 north of Earlton are still "red"? I have been following the ITG and the weather this past week and seen everything around there open back up after the thaw, but not those, along with A110Q which is a tough one to recover after a big thaw. I just booked 4 nights in Kirkland Lake, hoping to spend at least one day riding south of there. If those trails don't open, we will try to get accommodations to ride the Northern Corridor and cancel Tuesday and Wednesday night in KL. I tried to get some insight from TATA, but no reply yet. That certainly explains why all of the Kirkland Lake trails around and north of town are back to Green from the earlier Yellow. Might also explain why A108 and A109 are not available, but I think A109 is looked after by another club. Tata office got back to me just now, saying that there are hazards on those trails that likely won't get cleared up by Tuesday. Ouch! Northern Corridor again, I guess. Tired of it after 30 years. Can't get to northern Algoma via Elliot Lake either. We have cold and snow but I can't ride my favourite two areas. The trail network seemed to work better for me in the old days before all the better, streamlined organization. Quote

I don't like to(maybe refuse to is more accurate) ride poor conditions, so planning has fallen into my lap, both winter and summer. Second that the trails would be passable on Tuesday. I was almost skunked by too much snow earlier this winter in the Parry Sound area, when we couldn't see the edges of the trail. We are counting on at least the A trail being open to Kap on Tuesday. It remains to be seen if that is too much of an ask. As for accommodations, yes they were running out. Settled on the KL Super8 Monday and Friday nights. Advantage Inn in Kap Tuesday and Thursday nights. Comfort Inn and Super8 in Kap had only King single rooms, etc left. Hearst was getting tight for Wednesday night, but we got two rooms at the Companion with meals and indoor sled parking on the sledder plan. If any OCers are on the Corridor this week and see us, say hello. We are the group of 3 old and really old guys on the Blue Yamaha Apex and 2 black 2018 Skidoo 900 Aces. We have had the pleasure of meeting 1049 and his wife, Nunz, wife and friends, Soup, and Volunteer2 and friends on this similar trip in previous years. tricky Posted March 17 Author Posted March 17 So much for that plan! Got to North Bay yesterday afternoon and hwy was closed, as was every other north-south highway north of hwy 17. Truckers waiting in northbound line-up were told that the highway would open by 2 or 3 in the AM. So we got a room in NB. 7:30 this AM, the highway was still closed. For some reason, instead of finding out the ET for road opening, we decided to drive home, where I am now. Road opened at roughly 9:30 AM, with a long, staged snowplow, OPP vehicle and transport line-up. Ironic thing is that we postponed going last week because of the early-week warm temps. I am sure that next week will be good in the far north, but not sure I will make it. 3 Quote
Yukon Posted March 17 Posted March 17 Thats a bummer. I was stranded in Sudbury with my snowmobile, thankfully staying at a friend's place, secondary roads still not plowed, 2ft on the roadway. Two of us independently checked 511on Monday AM between 9:30 and 10:30 looking for highway 11 closures, and didn't find any. We weren't looking at the camera shots, however. Lots of travellers in the hotel this morning in the same boat. We heard this AM in NB that the highway was closed Monday around 8 AM, but the closure posting on 511on came closer to noon. Others said the weathernetwork roadmap showed the closures around 10:30. Too late for us by then we were on the road - fat, dumb and happy! We should have been more persistent this morning in try to find the expected opening time, but that seems to be kept a secret. Could have got 3 days riding in. Unfortunately we had to get home Saturday. Quote
