Polaris 9R XCR Fuel Mileage

So now that I've got some time on my 9R XCR & had a chance to compare the fuel mileage to my wife's '23 650 Indy Adventure I thought I'd share what I found. We rode trails & lakes yesterday from Port Loring to Dunchurch for 45 miles (72km) and then filled both sleds back up;

 

9R XCR 136 - 18.5 litres

650 Indy Adventure 137 - 14.2 litres

 

I was running harder on the lakes & playing a bit out in the powder that's on the lakes there with all the recent snowfall. I have to be honest I am quite happy at the fuel mileage of my 9R. I don't think the 9R uses that much more fuel over the 850. My 850 was always within a litre of my friends 850 XRS.

Thanks for report. These new polaris sleds are great. I love my 650 could use abit more snap in certain conditions. In powder they all use more fuel. On trail these new engines are amazing on fuel. I got over 1000 kms on my first jug of oil (3.6 L or something like that) Are you running ves oil. Dealer low now I could only snag a few L last week. Online I can't find it now either, on Canadian site 🤪

I have to try shell advance again I suppose.

I run VES Extreme in my 9R & 850 & regular VES in the 650. My dealer still had some Extreme left a couple weeks ago & was able to buy a case. I stocked up a while back on the regular VES.

My 650 was averaging 12L per 100 kms today or 3.15 gallons for 60 miles.  All firm trails. No complaints 👌

These new Polaris engines are impressive. All good on gas and oil for most part compared to past Polaris engine. No more strapping on a gallon of oil to finish a longer ride 👍

It's a 900 cc non turbo two stroke. 850 boast isn't that reliable so hopefully this engine will be proven to be realible with time. Haven't heard of many issues with it yet. Suppose to be around 175 hp. 650, 140, 850 is 165 ish. Just a tad more than 850. 
Polaris four stroke is a joke. I wouldn't buy one.

Polaris four stroke is a joke. I wouldn't buy one. 

When I was in Quebec I swapped with a buddy so he could try my 9R. His is a '22 850 XCR and the biggest difference in these motors is the mid-range, in the blink of an eye you go from 30 mph to 80 mph!! The 850 is no slouch but the 9R is extremely responsive!

Nice that 9r sounds like a great engine. Is it smooth like an 850 too?

Its extremely smooth & clutch engagement is as good or better than the 850. We were doing some slower trail riding with a large group & you could ride it like that all day. Strip all the decals off the sled and let someone ride it they wouldn't know it was a 900 until they pushed the throttle to the bar!

I have a 2025 XCR 9R and I must say I absolutely love the machine. I bought it in February of 2025 and since have put 12,951 kms on it without a single issue. The fuel mileage is within a litre or two of my buddies 2022 VR1 850 and the oil difference is immeasurable between the two. This fall I plan on going through the engine and at least putting pistons in it and all the suspension bearings. Awesome sled.

thanks, good to hear, I ordered a 2027 VR1 9R with Dynamix, had a chance to try one out and tons of bottom end power for sure, I will do some clutching to it and wake up the top end a bit once I get it. Should be a wicked trail sled for next year,

I don’t think it needs any clutching work. It pulls like a bear up to 180
