snowgirl Posted January 26 Posted January 26 I'm looking at where to stay in Elliot Lake. What are your recommendations on Dunlop Lake Lodge? I see on Google map that there is a Hampton Inn. Is it easily accessible by trail? Quote
PISTON LAKE CRUISER Posted January 26 Posted January 26 13 minutes ago, snowgirl said: What are your recommendations on Dunlop Lake Lodge? Dunlop Lake Lodge has been a great stop for many years. That said, it was sold last November so it is unknown if there has been other changes. 1 Quote

Not sure if that's changed out trail always started at back of parking lot there. 1 Quote

snowgirl Posted January 28 Author Posted January 28 Does anyone have any recommendations on places to stop for lunch in between Elliot Lake and Sault Ste Marie? Quote

It would depend on your route. Personally, I'd go up the F and then across to the Sault. Black Creek (who also have limited food options) for fuel and up to Aubrey Falls Trading Post for lunch (closed on Wednesdays). Both have Facebook pages for info and contact. If you go south there are options in Iron Bridge and Thessalon. I don't believe there is anything near Wharncliffe any more. Last time I was through Iron Bridge, I believe we ate at the Esso gas station/cafe but that was 10 years ago. Quote
snowgirl Posted January 28 Author Posted January 28 I wanted to take two routes. The F one way and the south on the return trip. The F is still red so far. The plan is to head there this Saturday and Sunday. I have never been out that way. We usually ride north, but I'm looking to head somewhere different. Thanks for the info. Quote
Re:Leaf Posted January 28 Posted January 28 I was going to recommend Bobbers Restaurant in Bruce Mines, we ate lunch there in 2017 I did a little research before I responded and found out that trail D136 doesn’t go into Bruce Mines anymore, so Bobbers is out. 2017 Map 2026 Map Quote
snowgirl Posted January 29 Author Posted January 29 Yah it does look like Bruce Mines has been cut out of the snowmobile system. I think we will bring snacks and stop later in the day somewhere closer to the Sault. Either at Searchmont ski hill if I opt to go that way, or I saw Silver Creek Golf Course on the D100 if we take the south trail. Quote
Blackstar Posted January 29 Posted January 29 Dan-Senior is the man with the info on this area. Unfortunately, he hasn't been here since last winter, as mentioned in another thread. Quote

Logging and a lack of snow on the F from what I read on Facebook. Supposed to reopen before the weekend but its not ideal conditions. Check The New Elliot Lake Snowbirds on Facebook for current info. Blackstar Posted March 5 Posted March 5 Stayed at Dunlop Lake Lodge for a few days, finally. Got the scoop on what's been going on. Randy and his son Max are the new owners...kinda... Randy has been running the place for a number of years in partnership with the previous owner who had a lease agreement. Randy and his son joined forces and bought the property. They have big plans to reno and expand. Currently, the place is dated, but its clean and offers anything a sledder needs. They have expanded the parking lot so there is ample room for trucks and trailers. The restaurant is open all day. Let Randy know when you want breakfast and he will be there to serve you. Max takes over in the afternoon and will serve you drinks in the bar until you pack it in. These guys are outdoorsmen with a long history in the area. Hunting, sledding, fishing and ATV/sxs, etc. They plan to stay long into the future. Prices were very reasonable. 2 Quote
