Candubrain Posted January 23 Posted January 23 Currently riding a 2019 Enduro 900 ACE, Elka shocks all around and presently using the Pilot X ski. Its a great riding sled and no problems doing 400-500Kms a day, although my usual rides are around 350kms. I'd like to get something more nimble, lighter, faster turning, a 600 E-Tech motor and possibly a 129 track. I would like to stick with Ski-Doo, but open to other brands. I consider myself a slightly aggressive rider, but not a hooligan, typically cruise 60-70Kph when conditions allow. thoughts? thanks brian 1 Quote
scottyr Posted January 23 Posted January 23 I had a 2022 MXZ600XRS 129 and I absolutely loved it everywhere EXCEPT for running the big hydro lines in Northern Ontario. It isnt happy running much over 120km/h for any length of time. It was so light and nimble. If I only rode twistier trails or rode a bit slower, I would own one again in a heart beat. If I could find a distress sale on a 600 Comp I would seriously consider buying it as a back up sled. 1 Quote

Yesterday, I ran in less then ideal conditions, big drifts, lots of loose snow, used just over half a tank of gas in 140 ish kms. They are light and nimble and seem very realible. Still some new non currents being blown out in vr1, xc chassis mostly. Maybe not what you want to hear but they are good sleds for semi to aggressive rider 3 1 Quote
95rxl650 Posted January 23 Posted January 23 XCR 9R 128 for me. Like any other race born sled, it's the most fun you can have riding in the big and rough. Duct tape your hands and feet to it and it'll do the rest. lol I havent ridden Doo or Cat offerings in this category of sled but I'm sure they're all a handful if you want get loco. 1 1 Quote

I love my Mxz 1200, but she's a hefty gal and she goes down like a snow torpedo if I happen to catch a ski in a ditch. Can't say the thought of a 200lb lighter 2 stroke Polairs didn't cross my mind getting it unstuck today. I saw some good deals at Byer's in Orillia and one other place. Quote
Oggy Posted January 23 Posted January 23 I currently ride a 2022 XRS 900 and find the power great, but it wears on you after a long day. I think I would go with a 600R next time. I have a friend with one and it's surprising how he can keep up with the big sleds. Quote

I have a 2022 MachZ and it is really heavy to steer especially after coming off a Yammie with EPS. It holds the trail extremely well with a picked track and tripple point carbides but my arms are tired when I get home. I've had guys telling me to let the limiter strap off a notch but with the smart shocks, I'm hestitant to do that. I'm not sure if that's just how they are or whether its setup. Quote
signfan Posted January 24 Posted January 24 Try snow trackers on it. They make a world of difference. 2 Quote
Steve F6 Posted January 24 Posted January 24 3 votes for the skidoo 600R. Great all around trail sled. Wicked fast and light in the twisties. 3 1 Quote

Is it a single carbide ski? I have tps skis on my 900 works ok, but it still don't steer like a lighter 2 stroke. Polaris came with snow trackers. Kind of nice actually. It might lighten steering abit by spreading out steering weight. I think I give them a shot and if you have studs go for 6" snow trackers. I think you be happy with them compared to a single carbide ski. Quote

95rxl650 Posted January 24 Posted January 24 For the trails in southern Ontario a 600/650 is fine. No one is going to ride away from it. Even on the railbeds there are frequent stop signs and corner to corner trails wont be an issue. If your keeping the Ace you can always run it on bag trips up north. I ride southern Ontario exclusively these days and thats the reason I went back to two stroke. Alot less fatigue. I used to find myself looking for a motel in the middle of the night on a 4 stroke. Makes for a long ride home if your arms are beat. 1 Quote

Not familiar with riding a modern MachZ but I cant stress enough how important set up is. I used to invest a ton of hours in trailside side adjustments while riding the same section of trail over and over. Try front shock adjustment first. If it's to soft you will nose into the corners and make the steering heavy. Let the limiter out to far and you will just plow through the corners. The steering can get to light. A well setup sled is worth the effort. 2 Quote

Spiderman Posted January 24 Posted January 24 I'm a Polaris guy riding a Cat....., But, this motor and chassis set-up is great and quite honestly second to none. Decent deal too here: https://aberfoylepowersports.com/New-Inventory/adid/40585763/2025-ARCTIC-CAT-ZR-600-129-SNO-PRO-2-YEAR-WARRANTY-Puslinch-ON/ 2 Quote

Nunz Posted January 24 Posted January 24 3 hours ago, mach Z said: No way your 650 gets the same as a Non supercharged 900.. I will tell you from personal experience on our 2024 Polaris 650 XCR that we took to Longlac a couple of years ago, It is 150 miles/240 kms that the 850 sled made to 130 miles when all the 850's and Doo 900 turbo ran out and we kept riding it to see how much was left in the tank, got to Longlac and it still had about 13 litres of gas left in the tank so would have easily gone about 200 miles/320 kms before it ran out, So yes that puts it in right in the range of the 900 Ace non turbo for Range. Bear in mind we all kept our speeds down in trying to be mindful of getting there. We are heading that way next week and will be seeing how the new 2026 650 does vs the 2024 2 Quote
signfan Posted January 24 Posted January 24 Polaris has a 43.5 litre tank. XS chassis 900 ace is 40 litres and a g4 or newer doo is a 36 litre tank (unless it’s an expedition or scandic which are 42). So it could have similar range. Curious what the math works out to for actual fuel economy. They will all do 300 kms with one of those linq cans on the back. 2 Quote

Next week I run them side by side. Wife going to drive Polaris and I drive 900 ace. Imagine they be within a 1litre or 2 of each other for similar distance driven. 650 is very good on oil too. Quote

Poo 650 may not get the same MPG as Doo 900 na, but it is closer than you think. As signfan says, the current Matryx Poo has 43 L tank to the current MXZ having 36 L. Be it 129 or 137, Matryx Polaris 650s are remarkable trail sleds. To be fair, I have not ridden the 600R MXZ. Mid City Motorsports in Sudbury is still advertising new 2024 Polaris models for $13599 (129) and $1499(137 with 7s display). Quote
