PSA for our touring people. After Jan 24th there will be no restaurant or readily accessible hot food in Hornepayne. Eat's N Treat's will be closing. I know lots of people run from Hearst to Hornepayne for a "lunch" ride so, I wanted to post a heads up so, you dont go there and be hungry and mad at the situation.

Tough one I wish them well. Thanks for info much appreciated. Is there any food at hotel or just a room. I thought it was open now? Going b to suck if there is zero food no reason to stay there, unless you have tv dinner and micro wave?

At this time there is no food in town as far as restaurants go. It appears from the Hornepayne Snow Bears page, they are working on something. If I hear an update I will post it here. Ski

Bring a chicken dinner with you.

Thanks. Does the Esso station still run one of those hot dog rolling heaters? 😁 Yup, our group does the day trip ride to HP for lunch.

Heads up that the Compian hotel has made us "box lunches" in the past, if the temp isn't too cold to have a trailside lunch.

Just saw a post from the HP club, working on food.

Also saw this from the hotel in HP.

Not a full restaurant but there is a new place in town called "Rise Wellness" they have converted the chuch next to the Valumart into a multipurpose space and during most days (not sure of the exact schedule as I am not in Hornepayne anymore) there is a coffee shop running and they always have some baked treats.  So not a restaurant but a place to get out of the cold and have a hot drink at least.

For overnight guests I have seen that Odette, the manager of the new Studio 6 Motel is putting some options together to ensure no one goes hungry.

Thank you Matt. I was hoping you might know something and could update us. I looks like you need to call in advance to make sure they can accommodate the group/size. It appears they have varying hours, and possibly closed on Saturday's so... Make sure you call ahead, and plan ahead, and dont just assume you will have a food option. Ski

I spoke with the Front Desk at Studio 6 and was warned that coming in on a Monday there was no food or grocery store open that day.  This was before the restaurant closing was announced.  They said that they were able to work with some local caterers to have food available for us in our room.  Hopefully the trails open from Hearst and we will be able to try it out.  If not that's a real problem for touring sledders

Just grab a sandwich at the grocery store in Hearst and wrap it in tin foil and heat it up on the stove in a warm up shack.    Thats what we do.     It ends up being more fun than sitting in a diner somewhere anyhow.

Here is a case where we took wood fired pizza to a whole new level.

And faster..nothing worse than spending an hour and a half at noon trying to get something to eat. I try to have a hearty breakfast then something like this that is easy on the trail then a good meal at night. Days are too short to be spending prime daylight hours in a restaurant 👍

Agreed.    We have a big breakfast and hit a warm up shack or 2 for a snack and some “fellowship” during the day.    Rarely do we go into a town for lunch.

Always have the Stanley thermos of coffee and Stanley soup jar full of stew with some bread and butter.

You guys are freaks. Half the reason to ride is to go for lunch.

when we decide which direction we want to go the first question is “Where do you want to have lunch and what time?” Then we calculate.

I imagine my next day ride will be to Pebbles.

I plan my day around the warm up shacks.

Great plan until there is 10 other people in the shack already.

Well, we are just out bush riding, so there is no place to eat anyhow, but I used to be sporting a Hotdogger, until one day ...

Had been riding all day in the sun.

Well above freezing, and the snow was sticky.

We were heading to Halfway (we were always headed to Halfway) via a bush route, and as the shadows started getting longer, we put our cache into our Doggers.

Then we stopped, prox 60 klicks or so S of Halfway at just aboot dusk.

As the sun went down while we ate, the temp dropped to just under zero, and the skiff of snow on top started to freeze, with sticky snow below.

GO ANYWHERE!

Well, I went aboot 200 meters and I had to Ralph.

Good thing I don't doo up my helmet!

My burritos in my BLACK tank bag, riding in the sun all day, in above zero temps - apparently had gotten bad.

It started the day frozen, and I couldn't imagine that it would have gotten warm enough to go bad, but it did!

It was a LONG ride into Halfway that night.

That was likely one of the time when we rolled in at 2am.

Gayle would put plates in the fridge for us to warm up when we got in.

I still remember that night - I was rolling up the trail ... slowly ... but the other fella's were playing around (partially so's not to push me prolly?) and I was a ways ahead of them, and I just couldn't go any further. I stopped to the side of the trail - right up agginst heavy bush, and laid back and hoped to die.

Then there was a bunch of wrustling in the bush. Was it just snow sloughing off the trees? Or was there a bull coming through the trees?

I still remember not caring either way. Getting stomped by a bull would solve my problems, so ....

And so - I have not used a Hotdogger nearly so much since then...

I stick with jerky, or anything that doesn't need to be cooled or heated.

I will be just fine 'till we git back to the truck.

I've survived 3 days in the bush.

An afternoon aint gunna kill me.

From the book of feces. It looks like there will be food of some sort but, make sure you call ahead to verify. Ski

Yes lol sometimes its quite a joy to take in the atmosphere of a crowded shelter hundreds of kms from civilization with a language barrier making things just awkward enough that its oddly amusing and entertaining

The last time I was in Hornepayne (2020), we went to Cindy’s for lunch. I’m assuming she’s not in business anymore?

Just cant make myself do a buffet. lol

I can leave Owen Sound and head to Orangeville across to Arthur, up through Hanover and be home for lunch anyway. lol

I do love me a 4am start. Just me and the trail.

As do I and the crew I ride with. We would all much rather go shack to shack all day or make a fire trail side somewhere. I can’t remember the last time I went and wasted prime riding time sitting in a restaurant. I generally pack some sandwiches or something I can heat up at the shacks

Lol

it seems more times than not you meet up with the same group later that day at accommodations and continue the awkward discussions 😂

Cindy's was a This and that type of convenience store, with a lunch counter, and a few tables. The store is still there, the lunch counter was removed for more store front stuff. The lady that was running Cindy's opened Eat's n Treat's across the streetish, as the towns only daily restaurant. This is the restaurant that is closing.

From the Hornepayne club:

Attention Snowmobilers and Visitors!

As our restaurant is closing, we invite you to continue following and supporting our amazing local businesses on Facebook:

Rise Wellness

Brewed Tales – lunches Monday to Friday; suppers Monday to Wednesday

Legion Branch 194 – lunches and suppers Thursday and Friday

MJ Savory – Saturday specials

Sunday Spaghetti – a community favorite

All of these businesses have their days and menus ready for you!

You can also find M&M products at Home Hardware, Studio 6, and McKinnon’s Fresh Mart.
If you’re craving sushi, we even have someone available to prepare it for groups upon request.

Our small community has truly come together to make sure you can enjoy your visit to Hornepayne, whether you’re traveling solo or with a large group. Please let us know how we can help make your stay enjoyable.

If you’re planning to stay with us and would like more information, feel free to contact Studio 6 at 807-236-0111.

Thank you for your continued support, and a big thank you to all our local businesses for stepping up!

We always try to sprinkle a little cash in every community we visit. Lunch, gas, supplies. The winter can be lean times in many small towns, your contributions make a big difference. I’ve found that the more riders that do it the better the service gets.
