scottyr Posted March 13 Posted March 13 I am booked for next weekend. Thursday - arrive in Ville Marie around 2pm. Ride to Rouyn. Stay at Quality Inn Friday - Short day to Amos but will still make it 240kms day. Staying at the new place. Amosphere is sold out on Friday night and truthfully its going downhill enough that I dont really care. Sat - Up to Matagami and stay at Motel du Lac in Lebel. Sunday - Val D'or @ Forestel Monday - Get up early/on trail by 8am and back to truck at La Bannik and home after supper. 3 Quote

Yes amosphere is getting dated and the food while its not terrible is a long stretch from what it used to be. But the heated garage and hot tubs are a treat. The new place is the Nouvelle Frontier? I've stayed there, its nice and clean but the restaurant was not opened yet and no sled parking at your door as we stayed on 2nd floor. Careful going over the rr tracks at the back. I'd zip down the road instead if there is enough snow on it. Im curious if anyone has stayed at the Rodeway Inn? Just north of Amos up the river. Looks nice with an indoor pool and gas next door. They must be a club sponsor too as i seen quite a few of their signs rolling into town last time. 1 Quote
tricky Posted March 14 Posted March 14 Is it OK to be optimistic about this coming week in northern Ontario. Like many, I suspect, we postponed our last trip of the season until next week. Hope to sled next Tuesday thru Friday out of Kirkland Lake, but have not made any reservations since so much is closed south of KL. We're hoping to ride New Liskeard, Gowganda, Elk Lake, Englehart but trails are still red despite recent snow. If we have to, we will try to get accommodations on the Northern Corridor, but that is not our first choice. Does anyone with a crystal ball see the 108, 109 and 107 trails south of KL opening this weekend? Quote

I know when he went up on Monday he said that New Liskeard was the furthest south that you could even think of starting from. I think you will be fine with KL. 1 Quote

The Amosphere was sold out of double rooms for Friday night and the Frontier only had 2 left so I thought I better grab something while I still could. The Amosphere is still a decent spot but no where close to being "The Place To Stay" in Amos like it was. It looks to me like it never really recovered from COVID. The little heated garage was cool but I dont think its available any more? We pounded a ton of beers in that shed over the years. Hotel hot tubs are a hard pass from this guy though. LOL. Quote

The cab driver told us after the original owner passed away his son has taken over and it hasn’t been the same since. Quote

scottyr Posted March 17 Posted March 17 I called the Amosphere and they now had rooms for Friday night so just out of nostalgia I cancelled my rooms at the Frontier and booked at the Amosphere. I am taking my dad and I think he will like it better being able to pull up to the door of the room. 3 Quote

Guys are posting that they have been storm stayed in hotels for the last 2 days and there is 2 ft of snow on the trail. Looks like the groomers are getting out. Winneway to cadillac is doable without the caddy and avoids the malartic crap shoot. Can anyone, or maybe 1049 confirm if laforce actually has fuel and it was just the reroute that cut them off? Might try la tulip to cadillac and dump the caddy's in at the valdor shelter. It would be tight for fuel but malartic is always an option too. I also refuse to go through valdor ever again since the bullcrap atv stop sign ticket a few years back. $450, so 900 total for the two of us still makes me mad. Quote

We are dropping the truck off in Ville Marie on Thursday and just need to get to Rouyn. I am sure that things will be minty by the weekend. The Matagami loop is the only thing that I can see possibly being scratched this weekend. We are planning on heading back up again next weekend for a season ender. 1 Quote

If you talk nice to the gal at Winneway, she runs the gas thru with her status card and its way cheaper than the price on the pump, even for the white guys. LOL. Val Dor is a pain in the bag to get around in. Even getting gas sucks. Quote
