Haliburton Forest Conditions

Anyone that’s been riding there please report back what it was like.  Trails holding up?  Any rocks or gravel poking through?

It is the forest, not exactly some hidden secret.....lol - great for an early season shake down run for a short period, but that is it!

 

I would imagine it was pretty good though, seems like there was a nice blanket of snow so the seasonal roads I am sure were good.

Oh my, that is quite the surprise.

haven’t been there in years on or near opening weekend, but usually packed and people from fairly far…Windsor I’d say was the furthest a group of guys came from that we talked with.

Last time I went there was fall of 2005 when I picked up my 2007 IQ 600.

 

We have some fields near us that I could usually do shake down early season riding in - that year I wanted to hit some trails after hitting the fields - so I went to the Forest.

We are down to 1 field now - and it'll be shut down soon too  - so the Forest might become something I will use again.

It is a unique place in that it has lots of cottage roads making for quick set up and the elevation of it makes for some good snow coverage - not all of it, but there is always one section that get more snow and in much better shape, that the other half, not so much.

Last time I was there was 2012…. We rolled in and I felt like everyone else looked at us like we were supertax TV…. Albeit we did come in hot w a brand new F250 and matching trailer,

loaded w 4 brand new cats of all desire, and a brand new Duramax w 2 brand new Doo 800’s… was cold AF and conditions were decent considering it was the only place to ride in Onterrible at the time …. I am from down Windsor way and have always enjoyed my times riding at the Forest. Looking to possibly go there this year for a few days

LOL, ya people tend to scope out the field in the main parking lot as trucks and trailers roll into the place early in the morning looking to make first tracks, see what people have, etc....

The excitement of going there so early in season years ago was fun, like a fat kid in a candy store kind of thing....making that drive up the snow covered curvy road into the forest at the top of hill!

The best is watching the one or two loading up the sled with the can at 8:30am after being refused entry!

I do not think that I have ever witnessed that - I did not know they did not allow them, good for them!

Hopefully the guys loading up did not just come from Windsor....that is a long haul.

This morning the roads were very good after the snow yesterday. Snow was dry not the good packing snow we received here in the south. 
Did 196 km riding 90% roads. The actual  trails don’t have enough snow to fill in holes, cover rocks etc. 

By 4:00 today some corners were getting snirty, gravel coming through and some icy spots. 
By tomorrow night and Saturday lot of the roads are going to get worn out. 
There isn’t much more snow there than there is here in the south. 
So the typical first week conditions, just this year it’s Dec. 11 not Jan. 11

Spent Saturday at the forest, trails were decent not overly busy was nice to get out for first ride.

OFF THE SCANNER: Emergency crews are responding to the Haliburton Forest and will be entering at the main office on Redkenn Rd in Dysart for a reported snowmobile accident.

It was reported the snowmobile driver struck an unknown object, it sounds like he was ejected off the snowmobile, injuries are unknown at this time but Ornge has been tiered and can be called off if not needed. 

The passenger of the snowmobile is not reporting any injuries at this time. 

Its unknown how far into the forest the accident occured, firefighters and staff at Haliburton Forest may need to bring the paramedics in on machines to reach the patient.

I will update the post if there’s any important information to post.

UPDATE: After over an hour first responders have arrived on scene by snowmobile and have made patient contact. Ornge has departed toronto and will be landing at a helipad near Wolf Lake.

One patient will be transported by land ambulance to the nearest hospital and one patient will be departing in the helicopter to a trauma centre.
