January start, if things don't improve. Side Note: Very rarely do we see a good frost. 3 of us were out on a "reconnaissance" ride today to determine if we need more heavy equipment to clear the March ice storm carnage. Looks like we don't as the further north we went, the less the damage.👍 The good. All the wet areas are frozen over with a couple inches of ice. Some held up to the ATVs, some didn't. The bad. The debris and broken trees/branches/logs are starting to freeze to the ground. Side note: I don't understand the love of ATVing!...lol... Bouncing all over the place going up and down the Canadian Shield and going through mudholes does not put a smile on my face. Plus all the dust in the summer. Don't get it..lol.. Sledding is so much better IMO. I was very thankful for heated grips today tho!! FYI, I only use my ATV for trail work and that is more than enough riding for me. 3 Quote

Nothing like being up to your knees in loon shit I guess? We have a Kubota sxs ,heated and air conditined. We got out through the summer and took care of everything that was accessible fron the Ice Storm. Landowners even pitched in. 2 1 Quote
scottyr Posted November 23, 2025 Posted November 23, 2025 Same. I dont get the fun of getting soaked to the azz and covered in mud. I stick to 2 wheels off road and go out of my way to stay out of the mud holes and ruts that ATVs cause. Dirt bikes require some skill to ride as well. 7 Quote

How do you carry the chainsaw, signage, etc on that when doing trail work?...lol... Love the 2 wheels! Grew up on dirt bikes and got out of it about 12 years ago. My knees said that's enough. 1 Quote

Agree 100% dirt bikes made for such "rippin" , 4 wheelers for work/transport purposes. I've seen Madmax road warriors driving in and out of gravel boat launches digging ruts trying to wash the muck off em, no fackin respect there. Quote
scottyr Posted November 23, 2025 Posted November 23, 2025 I would love a SXS if I had somewhere to store it but it would be purely for work or slow speed cruising with my wife or G-kids. Zero interest in going "mudding". 1 Quote
snowowl Posted November 23, 2025 Posted November 23, 2025 I'm another person with little interest in ATV riding. In our area the active ATV trails on logging roads have been chewed up into loose rocks, water holes and ruts so a ride becomes a bouncy slalom run around those obstacles. The trails are especially rough on hills from the combined effect of ATV wheel spin and water erosion. Where the trails get onto native terrain the mud and ruts are endless. I'm well past wanting to pull on a pair of hip waders and wallow in mud all day only to spend the next day pressure washing. About a 1/3 of our trail network is shared with the local ATV club and with each passing year the shared trails need more and more snow before they can be groomed smooth. There are hills on these sections where our drags pull up rocks all season long. I only use my ATV for trail work and a little bit of work around the property otherwise it would be gone and not missed. Quote

Same x1100c machine I have , since 2017. Great for jobs around my homestead, AND ....I have brought it a couple times North of Elliot Lake for extended bush trail trips and had no problem keeping up with the others on Hondas and Polaris, on the rough 5mph trails, and then only 5 minutes behind on the gravel roads at 28mph. 🙂....very reliable machine Quote

I personally sacrificed my summer weekends along with a select few. I didnt use my boat on Georgian bay once this Summer. Not complaining, it is what it is. I think we all volunteer for the same reason, to simply have local riding opertunities. But its starting to get old with me.. 4 Quote

My atv, I am changing these items axle, boots and bearings maybe every 3 or 4 years it seems. I use it almost every day, hauling chicken out. Quote

Never have done them, 420 hrs on machine, those areas at front are very well protected in my opinion and no play in those areas no problems yet, and in regard to the suspension linkages, they have numerous nice grease fittings , no problems yet. 1 Quote

Strong Farmer Posted November 29, 2025 Posted November 29, 2025 Permits should sell themselves with way the weather is going. If weather holds should be some trails open before Xmas in south. Getting pumped now. Calling for more snow tomorrow then freezing temps all week. It's looking good for d5 at moment 👌. We have more snow now then mid January last year 👍 1 Quote

This is what we need to keep folks invested. Now if we could just get a proper price increase. 2 Quote

Ya, I know.....but my mindset on the trail permit has changed a bit.....I can order whenever and carry proof of it, not like it used to be.....but I have also been asleep a bit - days and weeks just fly by it seems with our schedule. And I was one of the people that decided to wait to buy to pay a bit more into the system that was in need....so been putting it off where I normally buy at the start with the biggest discount applied, so never been in this situation before either oddly enough. For QC, I missed the last discount cut off.....and the next one is just a few days away so I will buy both shortly as I want the QC permit before price goes up! Quote

Does the primary clutch have a grease fitting? What do you grease on it? I'm asking because I'm going to be riding a Doo shortly as I have inheriting a Mach Z There seems to be some controversy within my family about a 74 year old using launch control. Go figure! A learner fob has been mentioned. 2 Quote
