Not sure if this was mentioned or perhaps asked - so we know the MTO turned down the permit increase, who controlled the early season permit buying options, was it considered or not to either remove that option to receive extra funds or decrease the early bird buying discount to receive extra funds....perhaps too late and on the slate for next season?

As I mentioned, I never bought mine yet as I normally would of....I was being sarcastic about missing the deadline @Strong Farmer, just like I am sure others will wait to buy, if I buy this year, it will be later on too.

Why not by 2 at the lower price and support the sport and increase number of permits purchased?

I only have 2 sleds and both permits will be purchase at full price.

I heard some news today that our district had extremely good early permit sales. 6+ weeks of snow last year must trump loosing trails this year.

Now imagine the same numbers sold at full pop.

The people left are enthusiasts who would pay the full price if push came to shove. We are talking a tank or 2 of fuel savings.

early bird puts money in some hands now, but ultimately takes more off the snow.

The only factor you didn't include is the number of marginal riders who would not buy at full pop. There may not be many of those in Muskoka but I belive it would be a signifigant number in Southern Ontario. Afterall their chance of getting caught free riding is almost nil.

The ship is going down.

call their bluff.

the savings is nominal and if that’s the deal breaker for you, you’re a loser, plain and simple.

But that is the Ontarian mentality it seems, there is a line that people can live with on “some” things, but other things they cannot….sad part is they will spend way more on corporate greed without blinking an eye but something like a trail pass for a system run by volunteers, they will not…🤔

Its complete BULLSHIT that they won't spend 4-5 hundred on a permit. I've been hearing that forever. I don't believe it for a minute. People are whiners but they will pay.

Fact is a goddamn spare belt is 300 these days. I don't see people stopping and buying sleds.

completely agree.

we are at a point where it’s time to push the chips in and call it.

put up, or shut up.

if they disappear, so be it, they were fringe to begin with. Sport can’t survive on fringe, you’re either in or you are out.

life support…. It’s not for everyone.

For the amount of sleds the opp has in their fleet that i've seen when they do their training, it makes me wonder how a fleet that big cant keep permit enforcement in check. Not once last year did i see a opp sled checking for permits in muskoka, just out joy riding from what i seen.

Seems the excuse is the officers trained/available to ride the copious amounts of sleds sitting there rotting.

Fully agree. Do you want trails or not is the question. Our family now ride very little, but we are all in just for that trip or two away from home. The pass cost is a rounding error in the equation. Go back to one early bird for optics, with a much smaller discount to ease a transition into full price up until Jan 1, then only two day passes for a higher price after that, might be a way to go?..

People will buy a two day pass and ride 3 days or maybe 4. It's happening now. Add a day on each side of pass date and roll dice. I am buying my permits this month. I just waited to help ofsc abit and wanted mail to run abit smoother too.
I always thought a monthly payment would be way to go. Everything that way now, why not just offer it instead of huge discount. Maybe 40 dollar discount with monthly payments, deadline oct 31. Then make it 4 or 5 payments from November to March.  What's a 55 dollar monthly payment. Most won't even notice that. Make it automatic recurring until cancelled to save time and money.
anything that help put more onto snow 👌

They won't want/like this because then they have to manage those funds all year.

The way they have it set up now - they get the bulk of their funds October/November/December, before riding season happens - and then I assume issue transfer payments to districts for distribution - and then work from there with the pot that is left etc.

it would require them to change how they do things

Not saying it could not work - it absolutely could and does for almost every business out there - but they may not be set up like that either and doing so may not be as easy as one would think.

Just my guess though

Subscription does sound like a decent idea.  Mto will get in the road though.  Very frustrating.

Have to go that way. I rather do that then have a discount then money comes in during sesson. They have most of it by Feb anyways if they did Nov to March payments.  Mto might get in way hard to say really. This is happening in every industry now pretty much, that people are just making payments.

So how do you stop someone cancelling at end of January?

We have a subscription payment already in place. However at no cost to the OFSC. We already pay for our permit on line via our credit card. You have the choice to pay the entire amount off or pay an amount over whatever time is comfortable with you. With the easy of on line banking; set-up post dated payments.

Set it up to have a short rate cancellation fee commensurate with the pricing.
