I think at that width you need 16 feet be minimum . I won't tow another 8.5 foot wide trailer. Most likely go 18 or 20 feet next time in length. Quote
scottyr Posted September 3, 2025 Posted September 3, 2025 From experience 7 x 18 + 4/5ft V is the smallest you can put 3 sleds in comfortably. 1 Quote
Fuse6 Posted September 3, 2025 Posted September 3, 2025 If you can find a 7.5’ wide vs a 7’ wide. 7.5’ isn’t as common but it is surprising how much more room it provides. Quote
signfan Posted September 4, 2025 Posted September 4, 2025 Funny this is asked. I actually was asking this same question earlier this week and did a layout on the garage floor with chalk lines. Scottyr is 100% correct. With 2 - 137” skids and 1 - 129” skid all trail width front ends I found a 7’ x 18’ with a 5’ v-nose was the smallest I could make things fit in. 7’6” width does make things fit easier, but I wasn’t convinced it would get you into a 16’ trailer. Question to ask is what is the actual interior dimensions of a 7’ x 18’. If it’s a Triton PR187 then the interior is only 80.5” wide. You loose 3.5” for the walls. I settled that that trailer or one of equivalent size is what you need for 3 sleds. The PR147 (14’) and PR167 (16’) are two place units. When I looked at total length the PR187 is quite comparable to the size of an 18’ bow rider boat on a trailer. Manageable, but still long especially if you have cottage roads to contend with. There is so many times that spinning the 2 place clamshell around in a tight area is super easy. I do agree getting away from the 102” width is a good plan for visibility and aerodynamics. You want the narrower width and the lower ground height to cut down on drag. If you think you could ever own 146” or 154” sleds you might want to go to a 20’ unit. Anyone have experience with Beckner trailers? Look to be a decent build. Possibly comparable to Triton, but a touch of a no frills setup (not the same options for the floors, etc.). Canadian made too which is attractive. Quote
Rich Saul Posted September 4, 2025 Posted September 4, 2025 Mine is 21 ft including V. 3 . 144 sleds and it's full.. Best to drive in v door or back in for 3. Works for me.. 2 Quote
Sksman Posted September 4, 2025 Posted September 4, 2025 What’s your budget? What’s your tow vehicle? 7 x 18 with 5’ Vee or 23 length is smallest I would go. We load a ZR 9000 137”, Polaris Assault 146”, and a skidoo 900 turbo renegade and there is a little space left for gear. I wouldn’t go smaller. Depending n your budget and needs Speedway Trailers has a nice looking Alcolm trailers hybrid 7.5’ x 22’ . 1 Quote
Bryan XC700 Posted September 4, 2025 Posted September 4, 2025 I currently have a 7.5x23 v-nose (18' + 5' V). I have it set up for 3 - 137 sleds with lots of room, load from the front door & drive out the back. I can also squeeze 4 sleds in as well by driving in one then backing in the next so on. Quote

How does it pull? The .5 foot extra would be nice to have. Quote
zoso Posted September 5, 2025 Author Posted September 5, 2025 Thanks for all the input. Decided on this 7.5x22. Interior height is 64 inches, that is the sacrifice of this type. Weighs 2100lbs empty so about 4k with 3 sleds in it which I like as we tow with a half ton. 11 Quote

Pretty much the same as the one we have now but narrower and ten feet longer. Good price on it and a fair price on the trade. 16990, giving us 6k for the 2021 12 footer, so 10990 plus tax. Most likely could get 7500 for the old one private, but after tax the differance is not much so we will trade and avoid the hassle for maybe 700 bucks .Speedway trailers out of cambridge is the dealer. Made by Alcom, same company makes Triton and about 7 other brands. Has steel wheels, and need to buy a spare for it. They should all come with a spare standard. 2 Quote

Was your last one 8.5 feet wide too? I like to know how fuel mileage compares. I figure maybe longer would grab wind too and hurt fuel economy but not as bad as 8.5 feet wide one? Does it have electric or surge brakes. I hit ice last winter and went for a ride so debating on electric brakes on my next trailer, that could potentially help straighten you back out in an emergency situation. Thankfully I stayed on road but did a complete 180 and no one coming other way, few. First time in over 31 years of driving I hit black ice like that. a few days later a transport wiped out in same spot and ended up about 25 feet off road he did almost a 180 too 😂. Quote

The poo was great, really liked it, just did not get enough seat time. May have a clutch recall, read about it but have not gotten a letter. 2 Quote

Has e brakes, last one was 8.5 and really caught the wind and gave shitty fuel economy. Think this one may be better. Quote

RAMSOMAIR Posted September 5, 2025 Posted September 5, 2025 Very similar to the one I bought this spring. This one is only meant for 2 sleds as its 16'. Fully finished interior, torsion axles with both axles having brakes. I have a 27' V nose Legend when I take 3 or 4 sleds. My Legend tows better than the double wide I prior to this 7X16. Better visibility and better fuel economy 1 Quote
zoso Posted September 6, 2025 Author Posted September 6, 2025 Dropped off the trade tonight and we changed our minds, the 5 foot 6 interior height did it, went for this. 22 plus the v, 2 fuel doors and drive in out. 7 feet wide. 7 Quote

Good call! Assume the interior height is 72" or higher. Wish the hybrids were a bit taller so you can fit a SxS in them. The 65" height limits their usage. Need 72"+. Also good if you need it for other reasons, ie moving. Won't be hitting your pumpkin on the roof all the time. You can now load your sleds with your helmet on!!👍 Quote

MIL has one of my garages full of her crap right now, moving it to the dump, my idle threat, will be easier in this. It is77 imches inside. I pulled that 101x12 empty to trade it. Hwy, 22l per 100km, it is a wind sock, sure this will be better. Quote
Mach Z Posted September 6, 2025 Posted September 6, 2025 The height is the best thing. I bang my head on my Triton a few times a season. Drives me nuts Quote

Sksman Posted September 7, 2025 Posted September 7, 2025 I like my hybrid 7x16 for the fuel economy. That 1 foot lower makes a big difference Quote
