Geez, when I've put more miles on than someone - esp. someone living where there is snow/trails around them, you know you've got a free time crisis on your hands :)

I sure do.  Maybe next winter, LOL.  I wasn't able to get away for a day ride during the week this winter either.  Too much going on at the shop to allow for that.

BRP has been smacked with high cost tariffs on their manufacturing - forecasted to get even higher ( i.e. cost to manufacture is going up, way up ) - thus you're cost to buy their products will fall in line and you'll pay for it.

No thanks

Bummer, must of got the certain number of views.

skidoo was paying 25% tariffs on some materials needed (like steel and aluminum) for the sleds, atvs sxs etc. now it’s supposedly 25% on the entire vehicle itself.

Try this link to read Financial Post version of the article:

Sleds are made in Valcourt so this would only affect our American friends buying a new skidoo not us. Seadoo and Can am atv's im guessing would also be subject to it as they're built in Mexico. While reading the article i could hear Ross Perot in my head saying "its that giant sucking sound" lol

"The changes mainly lead to a 25% tariff on the value of snowmobiles and many off-road vehicles when they are imported to the US, the company said"

But what parts for sleds made in QC come from the states or Mexico.....that are subject to Tarriffs.

I refuse to repay for the news that I already pay for. Never read a paywall article

Not sure, and not spending time figuring it out.

Reading the article - it's costing BRP, and costing them lots.

That will get passed on to ALL consumers of their product - making an already very expensive product - that much more expensive - not what anyone needs.

From what I gather its only on goods that the main product in it is steel or alluminum.     Like sleds and ATVs.

I bet Seadoos are not subject to the tariff as they are mostly fiberglass.

Exactly, roughly an additional $500M in additional expense. Consumers always pay for it.

Nor am I - just putting some context into the possible situation.....but what all falls under cusma agreement that is still in play for short period longer.

Anyways, I am sure more smoke than needed, but a great reason or excuse to increase their margins......

They’ll have to be very careful about increasing their profit margins too much. Passing on a $500M additional expense will be tough enough.

That is assuming that number is an accurate one though, how much of it is blowing smoke.

I bet it’s more.

Companies that size don’t make announcements like that for quite a few reasons.

Am I getting this right?? Even if they use Canadian aluminum, they export to the us for manufacturing and then ship the parts back??

Internal Aluminum Casting (Spruce Pine, USA): BRP operates a dedicated, full-service lost foam aluminum foundry in Spruce Pine, North Carolina. This facility, which has been in operation for over 35 years, creates complex aluminum castings (such as engine blocks and parts) for BRP products like Ski-Doo, Sea-Doo, and Can-Am.

I guess it could very well be more or maybe exaggerated a bit, who knows....

But is Tariffs the only reason, their sales dropped off quite a bit last year that would also take a bite out their profits - some could argue the drop in sales is a direct result of the tariffs I guess.

Increasing the cost of an already expensive product is not helping the sport regardless.

In the world where passing products back and fourth between the countries was a non issue and so much business went south as a result, there is a ton of product that passes between the borders in the manufacturing world for so many things, fast forward to now and this is or will be possibly soon turning into a huge financial burden.
