Leaking linq stackable fuel caddy

Has anyone had issues with their fuel caddies leaking?  Mine has been, but I can't sort out the source of the leak.  The throat area near where the nozzle connects seems to be wet after riding with the caddy full.  Wouldn't really matter, but I find our luggage which is in the bag above it reaks of gas fumes to the point that you can't wear the clothes you packed after a day on the trail.  I pulled it all apart tonight and am not seeing anything obvious. Wondering if anyone has been through this and knows of a fix.

Guessing it would be coming from rubber seal behind lid. E in gas eats the seals over time. I would change it and try again. My shop I get gas fumes issue too and always seals are going bad, not doing thier job. That e hardens them right up I find.

So was doing it before and after the new lid.

 

Only so many places it can leak no?

Fill it up and shake the crap out of it and see what you can find.

If Seals good on new lid, it must be threads on your can are stretched out and gas is spewing thru seal and stretched threads.  If you take some teflon tape and tape it same way lid tightens down, that seal that up. You have to take tape with you and do it when tape wears down. Just a thin layer of tape will do. I smooth it around real well and it stay in place for a few uses.

Mine leaked a bit on me once, but that was human error....lol.

It does suck, you buy these very expensive things to avoid the make shift gas carrying options that usually end in some leaked gas.

Can you pressurize the container and then see if you can find the air leak perhaps.

Mine leaked the first time I used it. Although it was tight, removed cap and spout and reassembled and it has been fine since.

Dug into this tonight.  It’s leaking where the black plastic is bonded to the red on the throat.

 

Any advice on a repair?  Looking at this JB weld product

Worth a try. Way cheaper than a new tank that's for sure.

I’m guessing the black piece is factory glued in place.  Would be nice to pull it and re-glue, but not sure I can do so without destroying it.

I used a similar epoxy coating as below on a plastic dirtbike tank that leaked around mounting brackets.  

 

It was in the late 80’s and it worked great.  Cleaned tank, Dumped the can in tank and swirled around and left to dry

That’s a great idea sealing it on the interior.  Aesthetically it would be much better provided you trust the product isn’t going to peel and plug fuel filters in the future.

My options were pour something in the tank or find a new tank.   It was much cheaper to pour in and try.
 

It sealed well   We made sure to coat the complete inside of tank, had some run out fuel spout hole, and out around top of filler neck.

 

We thought maybe it would peel but I do not remember any issues with debris or plugging of fuel line.

E  in Fuel ate glue I think . It will eat solvents too. Not sure what you could use on it that's e safe.

I have used Gorilla tape for making under water repairs on my rink liner and its worked really well - applying on wet/dirty and held up.

Might be worth a shot - applying on both sides if you can

But ruin the planet....lol

 

I think I would first see what warranty they have on these sorts of things, then likely try one easier fix, an epoxy of sorts that is designed for gas like JB, if it works, bonus, if not, move on and buy a new one.

Yep that’s where I’m at.

 

i have no issues with a little grease on the suit.  This is a touch different.  After a day of riding your luggage would catch fire from the fumes it’s absorbed over the day.  Defeats the purpose of packing a bag as you can’t use your spare clothes.

I get that - just being sarcastic. 
I think we have all rode with that one guy still sporting the leathers that were stained and stunk of gas and oil. 
saddle bag trips have a slightly different expectation now compared to 15+ years ago.
