Abitibi Canyon Fuel Min Purchase this Year?

Last time I was up, I think it was 10 litres, $50.

This year, anyone been up yet?

Was up there around January 17, I could be wrong but I didn’t see anything about minimum fuel purchase.

It’s pretty much a given that you need 10L to complete that ride if you aren’t carrying any extra fuel.

Min purchase isn't the issue.  It's the price per litre.  No issues paying $2.50 a litre in remote places.  $5 is absurd.  Buy a gas can or don't go is my advice.

Did ownership not change for that place, or is that old news now?

without them there, that trail can’t be groomed if I recall based on how long the run is and a place to rest for the guy and maybe refuel the groomer.
What other sources of revenue do other places have to stay above water vs a place like this?

I’m not saying $5 a litre is required, but maybe it is for this situation/location.

To fill my sled 10 gallons=37 liters x 5=$185.  Now that is crazy.

Steve Downie is the owner, former NHL enforcer who was drafted to the flyers in 2005.

 

Great guy and a character.

 

We also need to remember he is there 24/7 while trails are open. Fuel cost is what covers him..

Generally do not need to fill your entire sled once you are there and for the return. 
If you decide to stay and do some off trail riding in the power lines, you’ll burn more fuel of course.

I will flip the guy $50 for 10L as a donation to keep the trail open.    As mentioned, if the base camp is closed so is the trail.

Thanks everyone. Focus of the question is not the cost, right or wrong, moral or not, cost of staying open or the trail closed, but so that I can remind some of "my" trip members to bring enough cash, in this credit card society. Looking at doing it in the other direction this year. Based on how beat I am from yesterdays first ride of the season and only 140KM, I think the Tower gets pushed to another day.

we are going there on Sunday, looking forward to doing the loop, its been a few years since we did it
