I'm planning a trip for 6-7 guys in late Feb. We will be in Hearst for 3 nights. Does anyone got good suggestions for motels/Airbnb in Hearst where we could base ourselves? Thanks

Companion Motel is a very good spot. It has a good restaurant and bar, sauna, gym and steam room as well as a heated sled garage for a small fee. The main  floor rear rooms have outside doors so you can park the sleds and go straight into your rooms. They have some adjoining rooms. If I remember correctly, we always get room 129 and 131 which are adjoining and at the end of the hall so not to much hall noise. The owner of the Companion also owns the Super 8 motel right next door across the driveway which has a pool and there is a  convenient door to the restaurant at the Companion. It also has outside doors from the rooms and I am told is very nice.  You can Google Expedia.ca  Lodging in Hearst for pics and info.  Note: Book very early as the rooms go quick at these 2.

Companion is the best place for sure.

As stated above, and last I knew the Companion and the Super8 (next door to one another), are owned by the same family. Either would work, and I would guess but, dont hold me to it, you could probably pay the fee in either, to utilize the heated barn for night time storage. Ski

Companion for sure.

Restaurants and bar onsite and and huge heated and secure shed for the sleds. The have a "Sledder Package" that includes some restaurant credit and the heated sled storage.

Companion usually has a sledders rate, which includes a discount at the Shell station, and I think Dinner, maybe breakfast. Either way, has offered the sled rate for the 20+ years I've stayed there. I just call them direct, many hotels match any online rate offered, saves them the fee they pay. Day trip to Hornpayne and back is nice ride (Lunch in Hornpayne may be better now that the new motel is open). Hotdogs at the Esso station use to do the trick. The trails north of Hearst are also a great ride. Lastly, Companion will make you a box lunch if you ask. Rooms at the back, listen to Mill or train engine idling, rooms at front, listen to tractor trailers going by all night.

Peeler bar close down about 15-20 years ago. :-) Fairly busy night at Companion can have a full garage, first cme first serve.20160209_211914.thumb.jpg.0b4492b3cf571ced002ddf0c0c8c0b8a.jpg. Motor Home gone, tractor usually outside now.

Thanks guys, for all that great information.

One more related question; Which is a decent budget motel/hotel in Cochrane where we can safely park a few trucks/trailers as part of our first/last night accommodation?

Westway motel, never had issues leaving the trucks trailers there, they have always been very accommodating.  It’s right beside Tims, close to the trail, and fuel.  Friendly owners and staff, and they support the snowmobile clubs.

Times 2. The Westway is the right spot but book really early.

Another thing to consider going to Timmins is a nice spot too. Last time I started and stopped from bon aire. They have some really good rates, lots of trailer parking (charged me 10 dollars a day when I was last there for nights I didn't say there) gave me a parking receipt and they watch stuff 24 hours a day via office. Easy trail  goes thru property, mikes resturant right next door. Easy access to gas too. Much easier then fighting parking at west way if you are going during a weekend.
I go back for sure. Nice ride to Foylet and back for lunch too.
Another thing to consider is gong to Dubrevuille for a night and staying with ski 👌.
Relays magpie I think they call it, is a good spot to stay. I rather go there for a night then to turn around in hornepayne. Nice area to see. Trails are fantastic that way. They do take great pride in trails when snow is sufficient.

There is a new Motel 6 open in Hornepayne.

Looks like the only place to eat in Hornepayne now is Eat's N Treat's https://www.facebook.com/p/Eats-Treats-61551470725490/. It is owned by the Lady who ran the grill portion of Cindy's this and that. Hour's and menu are limited so, understand what you are getting into. No early breakfasts, they open at 10am. Dont arrive after 7pm and expect a huge gourmet dinner. Please dont take it out on the owners or staff. Not sure if the motel 6 will offer a continental breakfast or not, no mention of it on the web page.

Dubreuilville has a new owner at the pub/resto, now called 519 Refuge,  https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=61567072463821 More offerings and hours but, be prepared for it to be busy at times with the miner's and contractors. Ski

You havent been there in a bit, the Resto you are thinking about with the bar and apartments upstairs, has been long demolished. The newer portion of the motel in the other building, is still there, owned by several members of the Dubreuil and Bouchard family. This "pub" I am speaking of is in the main grocery store, hardware store, post office, pub, car wash, building kitty corner from the church. The pub has gone through several owners in the just the last 10 years we have owned our place. Patrice is still "involved" in the motel but, less and less, and is living retired life with is wife and children in Sudbury. Ski

Pat is living the good life that’s for sure.   I think he is on a cross North America trip in his Sprinter RV.    I follow him on FB and it looks like quite the trip.    He definitely has next to zero involvement in the motel, at least in the day to day operations.

Great guy.   I wish him all the best
