skidooboy
Better late than never but, there really hasnt been much to speak of until last week. Our internet service is giving us fits, since the mines came on our fibre optic system. I need to go up and troubleshoot, and see if I can get all 6 up again. I figured with this cold snap the river would be frozen or close to fully frozen over by this morning. I wasn't too far off, as you can see. Here's hoping to a good safe season, for everyone. stoney
@skidooboy Can you do a router reboot remotely and done it lately to see if the cameras come online since I think they are all WiFi connected?

You can see where the creek flows in a bit faster than the river bay area. It is usually the last place to freeze, and the first place to open. When going down the boat launch, heading north toward Hornepayne, always error on the side of caution, to the left, never right. Ski

We probably could but, I am not that IT savvy. Usually when it happens, we have to reboot the router, and extenders, then power on and off each camera. Usually keeps them going for about 6-8 weeks, then we have to do it again. It isnt a big deal when we are going up regularly but, we havent been up in over a month. Ski Most ISP routers have a back door way for you to access from anywhere with a password of course, that you can go into and there is normally a restart option, which will normally resolve poor network or WiFi issues for a while. Restarting the camera & extenders is likely going to need to be a manual function though.
Ox
I just remember a slushy spot on the other side of the ... lake - where you get off. .
skidooboy
Not a lake, everyone mistakes it because it appears as a lake with a rapids on each end... It is actually the Magpie river. It flows from the headwaters of Esnagi lake, through dub, wawa, the mission, and to Superior. And yes, there are a few areas that slush up, get soft, stay soft most of the winters. Know before ya go. Ox
Can you jump on there and ride all the way to Wawa? There must be a narrows in there? I haven't been on that since '98 I think. (?) But as I recall, we left the badlands dam and headed 12 klicks (miles? I know it's 12 sumpthing) upstream to the new/nice cabin. Jump up on the road and run that into Dub. I don't recall the condition of the river at that point, but it almost seems like it was "dead end-y" at that point? So I ass_u_me that - depending on water depth, that may be the end of the res? . So I ass_u_me that - depending on water depth, that may be the end of the res? . From Steephill dam in the badlands, to that cabin (Leo Raymond's cabin) it is 19 miles or so. You can go a bit further but, not much, then you run into open water, and rapids. Lots of rocks and stumps to hit, before getting to the "green bridge" on the D trail (west) running between White River, and Dub, but it can be done. There are several rapids between there and the back of the house in Dubreuilville so, no real riding to Wawa via the whole system. And because of all the hydro dams, and open water from Steephill on, there is no riding all the way to superior via the river. At one time when all of the trails and portages were open, you could ride from Wawa to Dub 9 different ways. I could take people up there, and do those loops endlessly, put hundreds of miles on, and they thought it was a new area daily, and was rarely more than 50 miles from our starting point. Now if we ride more than 50-60 total, it is a miracle. Ski
skidooboy
I just keeps getting better, snow is adding up. 17 from the Soo to Wawa, has been closed more than open, the last 14 days. River is fully frozen, people are fishing some smaller local lakes, via ice. Luc has been out packing town trails. Way better start to the year. Heading up in 2 weeks, for an extended stay. We really need to get there, to get the walks, decks, doors all shoveled and cleaned out. Ski 3

skidooboy
19" of settled snow on the decks. Drove 450 miles, shovled half, called it a day. Watched the Township parade. Woke up, washed car, shoveled other half, and cleaned out barn doors. Fixed the barn cameras. I'm done for the day. LoL! Ski
skidooboy
Just an update before the weekend. Another warm up is forecast starting boxing day. I will try to post a Christmas update. Ski 2
skidooboy
The good, the bad, and the ugly. We lost another good chunk of snow. We still need to get through tomorrow. The good is, many of the bigger lakes, have 10" of ice, and single digit (F) high temps are in the long range forecast. Ski

Ski I think as long as things turn around this warm up is probably for the best at least maybe things will freeze up .

Ox
I was hoping that you would have an update today. My chum in Munising said that his yard was basically down to grass last night. Also - thanks for the lake report! That makes me feel a lot better - that it won't take much to go from here. Algoma can git 3-1/2 feet in one storm this time of year, so ... But storms like that pull down trees.... .

Michigan, lower and upper have a system, lake effect event coming for mid to end week. You know what lake effect event means... Hit or miss. PS, you can always text me asking for an update, I can send it to you via phone. Ski
Ox
Please - don't send much to my rotary dial flip phone! I just got back from the city with a new tower. Had to replace my printer, and no drivers available for Winders7, so it was time to upgrade I guess. Kicking and screaming re: new electronics, yet I was one of the first to have a sat phone.... .
skidooboy
Its cold now, dry too. Making ice but, not much snow. Without a full west wind or northwest wind leading more west, we dont get the lake effect like the Soo. Pretty bluebird days, just deceptively cold. skidooboy
More of the same, no snow since the week before Christmas. Only change is, the sled tracks in the back yard, from moving sleds from barn, to garage. Ski
skidooboy
Highway 17 from Soo to Wawa was closed over 24 hours all day Sunday, into today. Unsure if it has opened or not. We are getting a little at a time. It's starting to add up. Ski
Ox
Yeah, well - it's night, and the Montreal River cams don't work well in the dark, and the Wawa Goose cam has been down for a while now. I wish the goose cam would git fixed. .
