Dan-Senior Posted March 2, 2025 Author Posted March 2, 2025 Snow-depth is good. The entire region including Aubrey Falls got fresh powder on Saturday - 20-25cms (8-10 inches) to add to the existing base. Highways were closed due to blizzard. Best winter I've seen in years. 7 Quote

skidooboy Posted March 18, 2025 Posted March 18, 2025 Drove through today, they still have lots of snow, just really dusty/dirty on top. The Soo and Wawa's groomers were going out this week. We saw the Dub groomer out today as well. Bonus, close to a foot of fresh snow is forecast for weds into thurs. There is riding to be had but, it will be spring riding with dirty snow, bare roads, towns, and paths to fuel and food. Ski 2 Quote

After this week's storm, snow depth is moving from 4.5' to 5' in the inland Agawa River region. Like the hydro guys said, expect snow on the ground into June this year. skidooboy Posted January 22 Posted January 22 I traded messages with him at Christmas and New Year, via the book of feces. It appears he is writing, a book series on the logging camps, and metal detecting in his core zone he travels often. It is a 3 book series, I am guessing he is very busy with that. But, Like you guys, I miss our friend posting about his adventures here as well. Edit: It appears he hasnt visited this site since April of last year. I hope we didnt do anything to run him off. Panther340 Posted January 23 Posted January 23 I am probably not much help, since I don't run the OFSC trails but in general, the Sault to Wawa corridor has been getting snow every two or three days, for past two weeks or more. Highway 17 sault to wawa is closed every two or three days, Lake Superior not substantially frozen yet so lake effect snow storms have been spreading as far as Echo Bay.... wheras Bruce Mines and Elliot Lake are typical normal winter snow amounts. I suspect the OFSC trails sault and north to wawa, must be dealing with a lot of trees breaking across trails due to snow loads on branches. I know my private Sugar bush trails here in Echo Bay have constant tree problems this year. 1 Quote
skidooboy Posted January 24 Posted January 24 Not to mention, the Soo just reported breaking the "average" amount of snowfall for the entire season, in the last day or so, and we are not out of Jan yet. That and the Soo club reported they are down to 1 groomer for everything due to break downs. The Wawa club was able to check the trail conditions via helicopter from Wilderness Helicopter tours in Wawa. Kirk of the Wawa club said they have 40km to go to get to the old Halfway Haven, and another 35 km to get to Percy creek, where the trails for Chapleau, Soo, and Wawa meet. It will be a bit before this gets fully opened to green status. Then like Ox and I were discussing, with the amount of snow pack, and brutal cold temps, that snow is going to turn into a bottomless sugar snow quicksand for snowmobiles.
