Dan-Senior
I just completed a 2 hour night run tonight north of Sault Ste. Marie and am reporting good snow depth. Snowmobiling season has started for the 2024/25 season in this region. Dan Kachur - SSM

stoney
Ever considered adding some extra LED lighting to that sled - I am sure it would work great! Great report as well.

Dan-Senior
4 am and Good Morning from Sault Ste Marie. Up early to start digging out before heading to work. Black Friday for some but a huge white Friday for us. Still have 48 hours more of snow on the way.

That much insulation slows down trail development. Nice to get out for some road running, but we have too much rock and swamp around here. Sure looks purdy though. I haven't even seen a frozen puddle yet here in southern Ontario. 🤣 That was number one reason many trails in parry sound area couldn't open last year. stoney
Looks awesome and great to see winter arriving in some areas. Hoping it stays, builds and makes for a great season. I have no doubt there will be plenty out “packing” your area!
Spiderman
Looks awesome to me. We definetly need cold in our area before that - but I'd take that anyway - we're past the days of having it all - you take what you can get.

Dan-Senior
Sault Ste. Marie - Updates There's no shortage of snow in north and east of Sault Ste. Marie. It's been snowing for the past 2 days. The deep-snow band is narrow in length (40 miles) and tall (60 miles). 2400 square miles of 2+ feet of snow. Snow levels drop beyond those points eastward and northward. Elliot Lake, further eastward (80 miles by air), hasn't picked up any of the lake effect snow. South, along the communities of Bruce Mines and Thessalon have a shallow snow covering, and that's it. Searchmont, Mile 38 and Mile 67 have decent snow levels. I can't speak on behalf of any local clubs as to the trail status, so, keep a lookout on the OFSC trail map. All I can tell you is that I've had the snow-blower out twice today. We are Braaaping somewhere in the snowbelt this weekend. Dan Sault Ste. Dan-Senior
Sault Ste. Marie - North-East - Updates The further east and north-east of Sault Ste. Marie we went, the less snow we encountered on the ground. We ran out of snow at Horner Lake (X marked on Map), less than 4" on the ground, on our way to Black Creek, so we turned around and headed south-west, back into the snow belt. More snow needed in that area. Dan Sault Ste. Marie 5

skidooboy
Came home to Michigan today. Snow is spotty at best. Dub/Hawk/Wawa are very light on snow depth, no real grooming, only packing, and no real new snows since the 2 warm ups. I went up to shovel December 14th, came home the 17th. We returned on the 31st, came home today, we never had to shovel at all, from arrival, to departure. That should give you an idea of how little snow we received. Snow depth fluctuated greatly between Red Rock Lake, and Montreal river hills, from very little, almost non existent, to "rideable". More snow around Frater but, not sure I would bet my lower control arms on it. From slightly North of Batchawana Bay, to Just South of Soo Michigan city limits, snow was pretty good. St Ignace, Mackinaw city have zero snow, and even less ice. Guessing no treeline to Mackinac Island this year. We need one good storm, or 2 smaller ones to start grooming. With the new powerline from Hawk to the Dub mine sites, that trail may be iffy for opening very long, or at all so, we may be running the Magpie all winter. With last years no grooming, no trimming, the club will have it's hands full trying to open all 3 trails, north, south and west. Everything we saw up there, was grown in pretty heavily. Ox
More concerned about further inland. I understand that The Soo has plenty. The lake effect didn't come in from the west, but rather the NW, and it appears that north of The Montreal was thin up to now. So, carry that SW and that would be Aubrey. ???
