Looks the same around Owen Sound. Good cold temps, but no amount of snow. We need a good snow event to pop up somewhere in the 2 week forecast. At this rate I'll have to winterize the sled all over again. lol

I didn't check Owen Sound but I do check Durham/Markdale and I think they are forcasting 5-10cms of snow every day for the next week.

Edit: It looks like that for the next 2 weeks.

I may have to get the sleds ready…lol

Hard to believe there's that much difference between Owen Sound and Durham being 1/2 hour down the road. We are estimated about 15-20cm on Jan 1/2 and 1cm a day after that. Last snow event seen Hanover area with 5 times what we got here.

I have snow envy.

About an inch here over night. Just enough to make me bust out the ice scraper to get the vehicles moving after prying the frozen doors open. lol

Even Quebec and NB are feeling the effects of low snow.    The 1st pic was taken on the main trail outside of Matane a couple of days ago.

Odd, my brother sent me a picture Dec 27 on his property in NB and they had what looked like a foot of snow and stating trails were groomed, not sure about open - but I know our weather since then has been crap, maybe there too....

Forget the snow for now. The two week forecast for little snow but steady cold for most of southern Ontario is just what we need. We need frost in the ground beyond surface frost. We need swamps, rivers and lakes to freeze solidly. Through my rose coloured glasses, this is setting up beautifully for the best season in at least 3 years. Of course, we will need some snow later in January or early February for this to pan out, but I am feeling some positivity. I have come to view February as sled season,  and any January and March sledding in Ontario is bonus. Some clubs and districts need January to hopefully finalize land use agreements, and then voila! it will be just like the 20th century.

Funny talking about happy to have or view Feb as the sled season - true though in todays world!

I like the positive spin / outlook :snow-141:

Theoretically I agree with you but this morning we have 51/2 inches of damp packing snow on our trails outside of Waterloo. More snow is on the way over the next couple of days. I think we have to get the groomer moving and pack what we have. That may let the frost get down through to the ground easier than leaving it as is and waiting for more snow.  We'll take all the snow we can get anytime. Winters aren't what they were years ago and waiting for the ground to freeze first while ideal is not realistic today. We need to provide open trails as soon as feasibly possible for the permit buying sledders while keeping crop and property damage to a minimum.

We got around 3-4" in Haliburton over the past 24 hrs or so. No frost in the ground so the upcoming cold snap will be good to firm and freeze things back up.

Big hole in the map around Brechin now. The wife’s parents live in Uptergrove and we’ve ridden that side of Simcoe a couple of times.

Uptergrove is a great area. Brechin is having some landowner issues so I’m not sure if we’ll have any trails open this season.

Did the Carden club get taken over by Orillia now?   That was rumoured to be happening.

I’m not sure. I wanted to ask you the same question.

For sure things have changed for the worse and you have to make the best of what you get. It's a tight window and we appreciate all you do for local sledders. As I said elsewhere, I feel a local ride coming soon.

About 5-6 inches in Owen Sound. I was over to Meaford today and they seem to have double what we got.
