We need cold weather.

Looking bleak in the French River now as well, we had 18 inches of snow but had rain pretty steady yesterday afternoon and mild again. Might not be much left by Wednesday evening. Long range forecast looks worse each time I look at it- right till New Years.

Fingers crossed it'll change because last year was brutal.

Lost some good snow last night here in Bracebridge

Green grass around Orillia in a lot of places

Well, I guess the early snow blanketing everything before it froze won't be an issue any longer.

The amount of start over/reset the last few years is insane

Any word on the haliburton area since the rain?  Did the haliburton forest survive or not?

The start over/reset is my biggest frustration with trying to run a club. Make all the plans and 2 days later everything has changed for the worse.

They can usually hold snow pretty good. There elevation helps and they have no roads  to spread salt and and sand onto trails , which speeds up melting. They have an update on Friday.

Yeah it's pretty frustrating. Sad going into January with no snow or ice and signs and stakes falling over. What a crap show weather wise.

Meh - things will turn at some point, might be sooner or later and only for a short period or maybe for a long period.....pretty much the norm at this point.

Not exactly inspiring, but it is what it is.

Canadians and their weather - always a big focal point anytime of the year.

I absolutely love sledding, but I am losing interest fast with this weather uncertainty.  Its becoming too stressful.

I am already thinking about buying a couple of new Seadoos at the Boat Show in a few weeks instead of snow-checking a new sled in the spring.

Other than a sled trip or trips, I am not really thinking of much else from a sledding perspective.

But if there was snow on the ground or chatter of it not too far, I know I would have other thoughts too.

Plus I have a few things that I would like to do to the sled this year as well......on the to do list, but motivation to do them is not high.....lol.

you're not alone

Almost everyone I rode with religiously for years - either is out/done - or has a sled - but not buying new, and not putting a lot of effort into trying to go anywhere.

I see the hours on the Seadoo's, dirtbikes, boats etc. that we use and very clear they get WAY more use

Don't get me started I cut grass from early April all way to end of November 🤣. Never seen such a long growing season. We grew some higher heat unit corn this year. Seem to be able to get it in ground 2 weeks earlier then our historic average. Overall temps are warmer too. We smashed and set new corn yield records to  point the lady didn't want to use our yields in system, until someone verified acerage .🤪

I have four wheeler they are ok. Not near as much fun as a sled and takes forever to get any where on them in Musoka area. Amazing what snow does to these trails. I hate winching to ride from point a to point b. Boats are nice too but man going to same lake gets old fast, unless you have kids to pull around. Around here we don't have allot of good choices besides Great Lakes. I got tired of all space in drive shed it took up for half dozen times it got used.
Camping sucks you ever try to get a site at a provincial park. It's like winning lottery they are all gone in 5 mins system opens up 🤣. Then I have to spend weeks searching system and trying to pounce on a cancellation 😳
when my sled goes, camper will go and I will  just travel no more toys.  Hopefully we get some cold and snow soon. You have much left up your way?

sledding in the winter vs. riding other vehicles in the summer, spring or fall on the same trails or other trails, is just not the same...IMO, sledding is better, but it is easy to understand/justify the swing to other motives of transportation for fun!

I'm not sure you're able to find a way to have any fun! :)

Seriously though, there is NO EXPERIENCE like sledding, none. Not up for debate with me. its the absolute best.

But there is also no worse experience than sitting there staring at it in the garage, collecting dust, staring at the weather network, hoping, waiting, wishing, and if all goes well for long enough, some trails will open up.

It's horrible and exhausting.

Life is short, and I have little patience for sitting around and waiting for anything. I'm not wasting energy "hoping", I prefer to grab whatever is I can by the balls and go at it now. If that means shifting gears and finding other things that are "fun" to do, then so be it.

Go get it

Been 2020 into 2021 since we had a good winter. So we are due but looks like we have to soak up another bad year before we get a great one. Go out and buy that half priced sled and fill up your garage 🥳. See you on trails soon hopefully 😎

That is true.  Sold my 2022 and picked up a cheap used sled for the odd time that I can get out now.  Bought a RZR XP4 back in late summer and have had a blast in it.  The wife, kids and I just hop in and go.  Put more miles on it in a few months than the last two years on a sled.

Finding alternative winter activities doesnt work for me. The sled dont eat hay sitting so it'll stay.

No ice for ice fishing here anymore, to old to strap on downhill ski's, cross country or snowshoeing would put me to sleep. Used to love taking the kids tobogganing but always had a sled to get us back up the hill. Now days you wouldnt dare take a sled around new gen parents/Karens.
