Arctic JC Posted March 11, 2025 Posted March 11, 2025 Awesome day, 425km, other then A trail thru Kap (along hy.11) trails were fantastic especially northern loops (L125, L159, L165, & L163). Highlight of the day was seeing two Moose on the L159 just before it meets the L165. Conditions were spectacular, snowing heavy in Hearst right now. No premium gas in Smooth Rock, first time getting fuel in Moonbeam, it may be the new fuel stop moving forward for us. Can’t wait for tomorrow's ride! 14 Quote
Arctic JC Posted March 12, 2025 Posted March 12, 2025 Another great ride today, 440km, beautiful sunny cold day. Lots of fresh snow this morning, and fantastic conditions throughout the day! More traffic heading into Cochrane, the Westway is packed tonight. One more ride in the morning before we head home. Lots of Moose tracks today but unfortunately none seen. 9 Quote

skidooboy Posted March 12, 2025 Posted March 12, 2025 Cochrane and the Sault have pre-emptively called to close trails Thursday night to Sunday night, with the warm up. Trying to preserve the trail for later. How many people do you think are going to stay off the trails, knowing this could be the last weekend of the season in some areas? Ski 1 1 Quote

Ski It's also March break and some drive from south, so it could be 700 to 900 km's ish. They have rooms booked and time off work, so I don't blame them. It get rough with no grooming though. Quote
whits-end Posted March 12, 2025 Posted March 12, 2025 Yeah, we're booked into Hearst Monday 17th for a couple nights, then bag to Dube Thurs 20th with a side trip to White River on Friday 21st, return to Hearst Saturday 22nd. Just not sure whether to pull the plug......... 1 Quote
Ox Posted March 12, 2025 Posted March 12, 2025 Looks like maybe just put it off 1 week and should be dooable. . Quote
skidooboy Posted March 12, 2025 Posted March 12, 2025 The Good and Evil twins were in the Hearst area the last few days, yesterday they were going to Hornepayne for lunch, made it about 10-15 miles south of 11 at Mooseland, the trail was so bad they turned around and went back to enjoy Hearst trails. Hornepayne appears to have groomer issues and has most of their trails listed as yellow or red. They are trying to get things groomed before the warm up but, they have until tomorrow morning to get that done. Like Ox stated, you may want to put it off for a week. One big tip for you, the lakes and rivers are heavy with snow, under the snow and above the ice is several inches of water. Some call it overflow, or slush.... It is bad this year, dont venture too far off of a packed track or trail without staying on the gas. If you slow or stop, sled tunnels can "vacuum" to the snow/slush, and it is a tough job to get them out and going again. Good luck in whatever you choose. Ski 1 1 Quote

Ski North part of D108 - I posted a while back had wash-out which we barely got passed last week of Feb, also didn't look like ankle deep water. If they haven't been able to get back to that spot, I can't see how what was left of the snow bridge could still be there. 1 Quote
skidooboy Posted March 12, 2025 Posted March 12, 2025 I forgot about your trip update. Thank you, for the follow up. I was told they are grooming the d108a north from Hornepayne to hwy11. Ski 1 Quote
whits-end Posted March 12, 2025 Posted March 12, 2025 Thanks for the info guys. We knew we were a week late but life gets in the way. Maybe still salvage this in a week, we'll see. 2 Quote

Hub out of R-Noranda (Quality) (working North and East) or Val-Dor (Forestal - expensive)sive). From your location RN may be the better option. Quote
whits-end Posted March 12, 2025 Posted March 12, 2025 Shorter drive, that's true. Thanks Gadgetman. Quote
Arctic JC Posted March 12, 2025 Posted March 12, 2025 In the truck on the way home, great trip to end a really great season. We were fortunate to have awesome conditions this trip and all season long. Here’s hoping we have another good one next season!! 11 Quote

Watchin' out the back door at times looks more like prop-worsh than anything... I wouldn't want to head out on a lake with a 250 Enticer! . 2 Quote

Don’t know how I did it but I’m not complaining, nice to be a passenger some times. Really the diesel HD does a better job towing than my truck would. 1 Quote
Steve F6 Posted March 15, 2025 Posted March 15, 2025 Heading out to freds to cut firewood for next year. The trails are pretty darn good still past pioneer camp👍 6 Quote
Oggy Posted March 31, 2025 Posted March 31, 2025 Still some awesome riding up North. Should be a least another 1-2 weeks in and around Cochrane. 12 Quote
Steve F6 Posted March 31, 2025 Posted March 31, 2025 Best conditions hands down this season for me was Saturday. Rouyn-pressiac-amos-la sarre area. Simply epic! Those 900 turbo R's really shine up there. Kinda want one now lol. 9 Quote
