Puggz Posted October 8, 2024 Posted October 8, 2024 I noticed when I replaced my runners last year they seem to be wearing a little ahead of centre. ALso, I've heard there's benefits of shimming your skis to move the wear patch further back will improve handling. I ended up installing the Adventure/Cobra Head runners and although they work extremely well, I do find that they need a decent amount of steering effort. Will the shims help with that? Quote
95rxl650 Posted October 8, 2024 Posted October 8, 2024 I've used shims on quite a few sleds but cant say I noticed a difference in wear. In cases of running railbeds at high speed it made a scary darting situation go away while keeping a single runner. Quote

I would imagine if you move the pressure point closer to the middle of the ski or the spindle, it should equate to easier steering effort. Did you happen to increase the carbide length at the same time with the new runners vs. what you had before? Based on their website, the 8" and 10" reduces ease of ride a fair amount, not surprising of course. https://qualipieces.com/collections/adventure Quote
Nunz Posted October 8, 2024 Posted October 8, 2024 You can get the shim kit from Bergstrom, they also offer a new rubber damper that is already shimmed, that would be my suggestion for you Quote

I always believed that a longer carbide didn't make much of a difference in packed snow, just on ice. The cross section of the wear bar is what helps on a groomed trail. But I am often wrong with these things..lol I lookup the Bergstrom solution for sure! 1 Quote

I shimmed Yamaha's. Used shaved high fax and glued and screwed it to bottom of spindle rubber boot, once I get height right. Both are necessary so it stays in place. Really have to fool around getting proper height. Never done it since. Most times I just opt to replace rubber boot they seem to get compressed and weakend with grease, use etc. It improved handling and carbides did wear more even after that. Good luck. Quote
