95rxl650 Posted October 3, 2024 Posted October 3, 2024 Looking online I see an FXR RRX jacket on sale for $277 from FortNine. Anyone use this line? I've never worn FXR. Is it suitable for milder days down to -10? I have cold weather gear, but sold my daily use gear last season with the sled. Any other suggestions are good too. Thanks Quote
skidooboy Posted October 3, 2024 Posted October 3, 2024 FXR makes good gear, just expensive to buy the latest and greatest. Buying non current is more cost effective. Go to their site, look up the waterproof, windproof, insulation numbers, and make the choice, if it is right for your situation. Ski 1 Quote

Thanks Klim is good too. Some of best deals are usually on new non current gear. I find best spot to get this stuff is Friday at Toronto international snowmobiles show. Lots of venders including Royal will bring all new non current stuff. Some indepdent at show too, that have great gear. That's where I get most of my gear. 1 Quote
Dave K Posted October 3, 2024 Posted October 3, 2024 I have fxr pants, and so does my wife, and most of my kids. We love them. Slim fit, My old set made me look like the Michelin Man. The pants have zippers to open as vents when it gets a little warmer, and you have "too much" clothing on. I dont know about the jackets. Have never had one of them 1 Quote
95rxl650 Posted October 3, 2024 Author Posted October 3, 2024 I'm definitely not the latest greatest guy. Heck, I'd buy used in good clean condition. I did watch a promo on the rrx line and it's not for me. The price is, but it's at the lower end of wind and water proof. I dont like to feel the wind . Chills me. Quote
Nunz Posted October 4, 2024 Posted October 4, 2024 I used to wear fxr gear but switched to Klim as I found the fxr very bulky and heavy but the float assist is good piece of mind, Klim warrranty is much better though and more comfortable 1 Quote
Bryan XC700 Posted October 4, 2024 Posted October 4, 2024 You can't go wrong with FXR, myself & my family have been wearing FXR gear for years. We all have the float suits since we ride a lot of lakes & ice fish. All our jackets have the removable liner & I've never had mine in due to how warm my suit is. Check out Royal Distributing's website & go to their closeout section, lots of FXR options there depending on size. You just missed their tent sale. 1 Quote

I have a Klim suit as well & wear it or my FXR depending on where I am riding. 2 Quote
stoney Posted October 4, 2024 Posted October 4, 2024 When I was looking at Klim and FXR the other year, I found they both were very close when trying on in the store for comfort, weight, price, etc... I was looking at their warmer lines for the cold vs. daily wear though. At the end, my decision came down to pockets, FXR had more, so that is what I bought. I have never looked at either for daily attire, I generally use less expensive stuff for that and older items kicking around the house, so not sure what that line up looks like or compares to one another. 1 Quote
95rxl650 Posted October 4, 2024 Author Posted October 4, 2024 The line I was looking at is more suited to tobogganing than sledding. Get what you pay for.....errr, used to. lol I'm a little apprehensive about ordering online. How does the FXR gear fit in general? Some say different gear fits differently. As in a large fits like most other brands extra large? Strong Farmer might have a good idea about attending the snowmobile show. Although the last time we went the prices had been on par or better "in store" during previous sales. My work van is in for brakes all round and front bearing/hub assembly. Just had the wifes CRV in for pre winter work. All it needed was a starter. Bear of a job. Once I get the bill for the pair of them I might be gun shy about buying new gear. 😭 Quote
04nightfire Posted October 4, 2024 Posted October 4, 2024 Maybe try some stuff at the sled show in Toronto. Royal is back with their big display this year Quote
Puggz Posted October 4, 2024 Posted October 4, 2024 My recommendation based on personal experience: Cold weather - KLIM Keweenaw. Can't be beat but expensive and likely the highest quality gear you can buy. The bibs come in std, tall and short versions for optimum fit. Milder temps - The TOBE Iter Jacket is 3in1. In other words, they come with a very usable mid layer jacket thats removable. If you look around, you can find them this time of year for almost half price. The Iter bibs and gloves are awesome. Bibs come in std, tall, and short. One other rec. I'm a huge fan of a well fitting mid layer. Something you can wear in public but provides additional comfort and wind blockage. I EXCLUSIVELY wear Klim Override Alloy bottoms and tops. Nothing else comes close. Hope this helps P. 1 Quote

Thanks what size do you wear? do you want floater Suit? Quote
95rxl650 Posted October 5, 2024 Author Posted October 5, 2024 I have a 2 piece float assist suit I mainly use in the boat or extremely cold days on the sled. I rarely run any lake trails these days. I am open to anything though. Even looked at mono suits. I wear large size in most gear, but I also have xl that fit like large. Thats why I hesitate to order online. No dealers close to me and canadian tire doesnt have their snowmobiling stuff out yet. I may have to head to the sled show or royal distributing. I have HJC and Choco gear but it's old and dated. Here's last years old and dated. Maybe time for an upgrade?? lol 1 Quote
Spiderman Posted October 5, 2024 Posted October 5, 2024 Both of my kids are draped in FxR gear and love it. my sister is new to riding and has all FXR gear and says warm and comfortable. I think you’re safe with it. 2 Quote
signfan Posted October 5, 2024 Posted October 5, 2024 Fxr family here as well. Wife, kids, grandparents on both sides. It's good quality. That and if you have an issue they back their stuff up. Had the odd tear (abuse, not a defect) and just e-mailed them and they shipped out free iron on patch kits (regardless of the age of the garment and didn'task for proof of purchase). Same with zippers pulls. Overall we've had very few issues. Warmth is decent. It was really the flotation in every suit along with decent warmth that sold us. Especially for the kids. Have bought a lot used on kijiji and more recently have bought a few new suits. I'd believe their warmth rating system. It's pretty accurate. If I was being critical I'd say the suit doesn't always breath as well as I'd like. More find that when you go do something strenuous like cutting a hole in the ice in lake. But then again that's the adrenaline suit which is their highest warmth rating. I could shed a layer of the coat and a lot of that would go away. Base layers count regardless of what you're wearing. I could see myself trying the high end Klim suit down the road, but only the version with flotation. Can't see me changing the whole family over. FXR has that right balance being good quality, but not fall over ridiculous pricing. Have had cheaper floater suits in the past and these are night and day better for warmth. 2 Quote
95rxl650 Posted October 6, 2024 Author Posted October 6, 2024 Went to Royal this morning and picked up the FXR Octane F.A.S.T. All the price tags said $429 as does the website. Cant get that pic upright no how. 1 Quote
yamadan700 Posted October 6, 2024 Posted October 6, 2024 My wife and I switched over to FXR a few years ago and we have no complaints. We appreciate the built in floatation capabilities as there are numerous trails that cross lakes up this way. Warmth has never been an issue. Quote
