If you have the opportunity do it.

My amazing (15 year old) son and I took a long weekend and headed to Revelstoke to sled this past Sat and Sun.

rented basically brand spanking new 2023 850 summits 154’s from Freeriderrentals.com

Was an absolute blast. Best time I’ve had on a motorized vehicle.

heading back next year for sure (and in better shape!)

DIY , as most rental companies didn’t want to rent a 160 hp 850 cc machine to a 15 year old for some reason???? 🤔🤔🙄

that being said , Saturday we rode by ourselves at Boulder to get use to powder and mountain riding (and the narrow ski stance and 2” tracks!) and Sunday the owner Mike , came out with us on his 850 turbo and took us to Frisby ridge to some spots not easily accessible unless your a local. Was the best day ever. Seriously.

Note , my son is better at two things than me already. Fishing and back country snowmobiling !

Awesome.  I rode out there 10 years ago now.  I never wanted to come home.  Unfortunately they are having a low snow year as well.  Here's a few pics from when I was out there.  Second pic is from where the picture was taken with the depth gauge.  That entrance door is roughly 20 feet off the ground

I just shipped a recoil to a fella in Kitimat a cpl weeks ago and I asked him of their conditions, and he said that they were pretty thin, but good enough.

Honestly, can you tell the difference between 6' depth and 15' depth? Other than filling in a few holes, that's aboot it.

We look for the local ski resorts to claim a 40" base before we like to go. That's enough to cover most of the land mines.

I remember riding into The Soo (Mich) back in the 90's after they just got 80" in one storm. Had no concept of depth until we got to town where they were plowing it down to the streets AND the sidewalks!

We went during my son's spring break, third week of March. It hadn't snowed in the town of Revelstoke in 6 weeks. We were the only people in the hotel we stayed at. The plan was to rent and ride from the hotel parking lot. Fail....lol    There was no snow below 4000 feet. We had to trailer up to ride.

My rental vehicle turned into sled trailer puller. Note that there is no insurance coverage if you do this.

There had been an avalanche the week before killing 2 sledders, burying a dozen more and damaging 50 sleds. This was where it happened, the lumpy snow is from excavating out the poeple and sleds. Note orange paint on lower left.

And the warm up shack pic.

My son and I went out of Golden, BC about 5 years ago. I agree, total blast and unique experience. We went with a guide and state of the art avalanche safety equipment. The guide provided helpful avalanche safety training too. Rode to about 10,000'. Hard to catch your breath up there with all of the riding (and sometimes digging out) exertion!
