Looking ahead to '22 - Ride New Districts

Recommended Posts

After limited myself to cottage riding last year, looking forward to riding new districts. Recently, some on the forum mentioned Southwest Ontario had a banner year in '21. Couldn't go - outside the health unit.

Anyhow, I'm working on some type of 'bucket list' system where we can 'tick off' if we've visited a District. No rules. Catch it at the edge, you've been there.

Definitely a Work in Progress, but suspect that this winter will not be 'off to Cochrane' as in year's past (past).

Appreciate the District launch/staging suggestions over the years and the online resources are fantastic in this regard (OFSC site, some Google map overlays, calls to Turbo Doo '22 if I must).

Make sure one of those trips is to New Dundee. We'll ride out to Heidelberg to the The Olde Heidelberg Inn for pork hocks. And ride the some awesome District 5 trails.

They also have  the biggest and best40 creek wings I have ever had. Sorry St. Clements S.C.

That’s hard to get too now. No trail near the place, since st Agatha trail closed. 😂

From high way 7 and 8 north had a good season. Snow really picked up around highway 86. Hanouver is a good spot for staging when casino is open. Last year it was closed along with the trail access. I called many resorts that usually allow parking and they all turned me down and blamed covid. Hopefully this winter is different.

Some of these could be my trails! Maybe, hard to tell. I’m just north of the arrow I put on your photo. Did you venture to the northwest side of Owen Sound?

If anyone makes it to the north part of D9 give me a shout, I’m always up for a ride!

There is a short trail down to the highway then towards Heidelberg near where the original St. Agatha trail was. You can take the edge of the highway or snowbank from there to the hotel  or a lot of people still ride up from my place on the area beside the road and then the sidewalk to the hotel.

I rode that area for a few days last season w my better half.  We throughly enjoyed it. Was highly recommended to check out the clubhouse. (Very nice btw!) Met a very nice group of locals and had a nice chat about the area….. fast forward about a month or so and I run into them at base camp at Abitibi! What are the odds??

Lobsinger line. The ditch is ok until you get close to town. Then it is close to 600 m scratch. Some residents are mad at snowmobilers so side walk shouldn’t be used to access fuel or hotel. That day we had some fresh snow so side of road was rideable most days it isn’t. Be nice to have a trail going around and back thru hotel property or gas station, depending which way you loop. I know getting permission is difficult so kudo’s to club for getting access to lobsinger line, anyways.

A few club members have camps/houses in Cochrane. Maybe Cary or Mike? And there’s a whole crew from Owen Sound that own another place-maybe one of the VanDolders?

VanDolders?

Wow. There's a name from sled racing days some 50 years ago.

They all had kids, some that raced Snowcross for years just like the Dads raced oval. I saw one of the new generation on test ride the Lynx day up here, he was super fun to watch! Still a big sledding family for sure.

I raced with/against the VanDolders. Good guys. Hard racers. True to the yellow breed of sleds!
