Ya if it could stop snowing in muskoka thst would be great.....

Trail 37 had two feet of snow it. It was coming up over our hoods on Saturday morning.  Had to steer by shifting your weight

and now you understand why people like to ride fresh, virgin, untouched snow, off trail. the feeling of weightlessness, floating over/in the snow, v.s riding a packed groomed road. we all have our reasons we like to sled. some are different than others. Ski

I dont mind breaking trail into the woodlot which I guess would be a smaller scale version of you guys riding on unloved looking roads or cut lines. But to just spend an afternoon riding around in a field? Nope.

Some screen shots of today's conditions and tomorrow's forecast

I missed the western pic but it's -33 in Winterpeg, -43 in Edmonton & -thirtysomething in Calgary. I dont bother w/ windchill. Some of the folks in TO that complain when it gets to -10 should thank their lucky stars they never get transfered. My great uncle retired back to  Bowmanville after being in Winnipeg in the 50s. The only weather my parents said he ever commented on was a big flood there.

I'm not worried about his personal health, it's the wheel holders taking him out that concerns me.

Out w/ my buddy on his new Renny (900ACE). We did 145 klicks. A bit of slush on where it was mint on Eels the past Weds'. Running south on Chandos we had to deal w/ the crosswind. doing a 95 - 100 kph & you're leaning to the right LOL

Lots of couples, a few kidlet passengers riding. Even saw a redhead on a Renny

Red heads and rennys, hmm, good combo. Glad to hear people are out exercising .....their rights.

I guess you leave the truck running in that weather :o

I dont know what the deal was when I was filling up a 5 gallon can this afternoon. Old guy pulls up to the pumps in a fairly new pick up to fill it. I didn't realize until I had finished & was carrying the can over to my truck that his was still running. Three things came to mind:

A: Isn't it illegal to leave a vehicle running while fueling?

B: It wasn't a diesel

C: It wasn't all that cold FFS!

Bigfish rode up to the Ptbo staging area to meet me. I was surprised to see him sitting on his sled in the lot. "It's faster to find here than drive!"

Rode east almost to the reptile zoo west of Norwood. He had been thru there on Sat' & said the snow was thin towards Havelock. Rode back down to the E208 & then east to the 569S to get to Rice Lake. Lake conditions were good to the Hiawatha trailhead. (Be aware that the FN is under lockdown, so fuel is not available) He rode home from there. I continued up 511 thru Mathers Corners to the railbed. I rode under the 115 to the Wonder bread distributor. The Wendy's & Tims are a 5 minute walk from here. Not sure how 'pedestrians' would be handled if you wanted to order something.

On a drumlin NW of Mathers Corners. CR 2 is visible in the distance.

The field to the north was strange. Drifts all across it, but where the trail ran along its edge by the tree line, very rough and barely snow covered.

Back @ the railbed

May be an image of nature, snow, road, tree and text that says 'HASTINGS PETERBOROUGH WEST EAST'

South to 511

Heading towards Ptbo

Hastings is that a way...

Stopped @ Old Keene Road. This is south of the Esso just east of Ptbo on Hwy 7.

Looking west towards the 115

Plastic pipe supplier on Pido Road. I'm on a abandoned CN/CPR spur that served several industries. This company's decision to not manufacture the pipe here (receiving pellets in covered hoppers) helped hasten the abandonment. Trent Timber Treating adjacent to the next photo used to receive flat cars of lumber. Now all their product comes & goes by truck.

Looking east @ the 115 overpass by Ashburnham

May be an image of nature, road and snow

As usual, Canada's favourite rodent has been busy by the staging lot. The stump closer to the camera was about 6" in dia'. Saw another towards the overpass that must've been a foot in diameter that they had fallen.

May be an image of nature

It would be nice if they got some more snow. Good conditions mostly, but some spots quite thin. 77 klicks for the afternoon. Would've hit a hundred had we ridden to Hastings.

Nice run last Friday. Plenty of fresh snow falling, lots on the trails. 114 miles round trip. Trails were very good. Groomer went by and stopped as we were having lunch.

Lunch stop on intersection of C111D and 56. Great place with a nice washroom. Roasted hot dogs, some other snacks, coffee, etc.

Went across Wahnapetei Lake on trail 71 on the way there... that wasn't fun with the wind, slush spots and small pressure crack.. needless to say we took C rail bed back from Capreol.

Was a great day, with great people.

I see the clubs have tamed the big snowfall! Might be safe for me to take a look tomorrow.

The west side of the hwy tunnel in hgr territory was full of water with a nasty frozen trench right up to the running boards at the exit on sunday. Hopefully its fixed up by now. Got my new sled all dirty! Port Sydney got hammered with snow, this was on Clearwater lake on sunday. 2 feet of fresh yum yums!
