Another 'moment' during last season,  that only could have happened sledding. The TechDenis007 dance down the ramp out of the back of his truck, when he rescued one of us last season..B):rotflmao:...

I think we've all done that dance trying to get down a slope in the winter LOL

.... take a snooze on a sled and make it look perfectly normal ....

Waiting for someone to arrive or catch up?

TechDenis007, The Man, The Myth, The Legend.  A stand up Gentleman that Mrs. Turbo Doo and myself,  along with many Oc members,  call a Friend. Truly a good hearted fellow, that we throughly enjoy visiting in Hearst, hanging out with, riding with.;).. Would have never known him, without sledding,  and OC....

Only on a sled can you drive tens of thousands of fun kilometers and STILL find yourself in complete awe when you hit a section of well groomed trail and the sleds running in some sort of magical over achieving state and for an hour or so you experience that occasional other worldly thrill riding in bliss

Absolutely love this post because it’s all so very true.
The non sledders have absolutely no idea the feeling us sledders get when you  jump on that machine and begin your adventure.
The scenery we experience is like no other.

Only on a sled will you see places you couldn't otherwise. I don't recall which lake it was but it was heading home from Swift Rapids. As I rode down the long narrow lake I stopped and sat realizing there wasn't a single cottage on the shoreline on either side and when I shut the engine off it was complete silence. Not even a rustling tree....

Then there's the nature you see. Call me naïve but at one time I thought beavers hibernated. We're riding a twisting trail through the trees and up ahead here's a beaver about to cross the trail. It sees us coming, takes a few steps back and waits beside the trail for us to pass. Heading from Swift Rapids to C trail at the top end of Six Mile Lake and we take a bend in the trail. Ahead are 3 deer walking the trail.... they look back at us and keep walking. We follow slowly a good distance back. A while later they pause and look back as if "what you're still following us". This happens a couple more times then they head off the trail into the deeper snow. They stop about 75 ft from the trail and I presume waited for us to pass.

For some it's about how fast they can get from point A to B. For me I like to think I strike a happy medium where I actually get to see the things around me rather than have it a passing blur.

OK, I'm not going to say that this is an awesome wildlife pic, or that it could only happen to Diane on her first REAL sled journey, only that if you know Diane, that it was SURE to happen.

Birds will introduce themselves to her almost anywhere. They just KNOW she's their patron saint.

Only on a sled can you explore with friends and kids and see things that no one else will see without a sled to get to these remote places.  I get really ancy every year and wonder why do I do this.   My Sled sits for 8 months,Then I get that ride in and I'm all good and just want more.

My kids will have these memories forever exploring with mom and dad on a sled.  Lunches, trail side stops with friends, animal sightings it's such an amazing thing.

Only on a Sled

- Can I go inland 5 lakes and visit old lumber camps that are 100 to 120 years old to do some metal detecting, otherwise, during the summer, it would mean 5 canoe portages.  This is a very narrow window of opportunity in early to mid April when the sun beats down on southern exposures allowing the ground to thaw but still offering plenty of ice, therefore metal detecting in remote areas. The Lumberjacks used tote roads and frozen lakes back 100+ years ago. Many of those tote roads are long gone.

I have seen plenty of wildlife from a skidoo, but prolly not as much as from a (quiet) ATV.

However - those quiet ATV's got us a wee bit too close to a cow and calf one time on Point Lake Road.

We got kind'a lucky that day.

You can git here in ways other than a snowmachine, but not easily:

No, a relative of mine (an old timer & trapper) referred to a lynx as a link. LOL
