Generally speaking the OPP/Local police will lay the charge with you making a sworn statement to them regarding the trespass.

You may not have to go to court.

As far as how many times has it been done, lots up here.

Good news.  Will they do the same for no OFSC Trail Permit?

Why doesn’t the OFSC attach a online training program to the permit purchase?

have an educational video of “x” minutes stating the facts about trespassing and loss of trails.  Show some examples and the lost trail.   Maybe a map of where trails were lost and the reroutes required.

If you do not watch video your permit transaction does not go through.

Its only a thought on educating.  Might not sink in with people.  Might piss off a few or a lot but message has to get out and be heard.

It’s bad enough our climate is changing for the worse to us sledders but these trespassers just make things worse for all.
unfortunately it’s unlikely these clowns are truly aware of the damage they are doing to the sports public perception and future stability.

I respectfully disagree.

There will always be those that loot stores in the middle of a hurricane.

Maybe making every permit holder volunteer for a few weekends a year would be better. Only volunteers are eligible for Early permit price and rebate it back after volunteer sessions are filled.

On this same line of thinking say the OPP catches the idiot who ran round the property scaring all the livestock and whatnot. Instead of a fine how about marching the fool back to the peoples property, escort this person right to the door and tell them to apologize ON VIDEO and PUBLISH that on the OPP twitter feed. If the apology is insincere there is also a fine, but the idea that we are trying to improve relations to land owners as a federation would be served well by this, plus it makes the coppers look like they are invested in improving the situation not polarizing things further through hate and tax bills.

Trudeau would be cutting a lot of 10.5 million cheques.

I suggest the tried and true "wooden shampoo". Obviously, they were resisting.

Yes just opp don’t have resources to do this. It might be too late to save trail after an incidence happens. Being proactive is much better approach. I am sure ofsc is working hard on this and government is coming up with new farm land fines that start at 15,000 and relate strictly to farm animals and live stock. So if a sledders goes and scares a horse on thier snowmobile and is convicted they will most likely be fined 15 g’s for a first offence.  Once new fines become law hopefully the ofsc will advertise the fines. I know catching people is a problem on its own and we going to need some enforcement to get people to comply.

Just curious but the province just toughened up the laws significantly around trespass on farm property primarily around livestock concerns. Perhaps the laws have enough latitude that they could apply  to snowmobilers on farm property.

They will apply to snowmobilers no doubt. How big of a zone around farm buildings that have live stock remains to be seen. This zone will have to be clearly posted too. Most likely a certain radius around building. 15 meters or something like that. We have zones now for bio security which is 15 meters (called called caz (controlled access zone) Probabily won’t be any where near a trail but if a person trespasses and goes near or into zone then new rules will apply, if the government passes them.
wait and see.

I got the impression talking to a farmer friend of mine that the new trespass regulations applied to all of his farm property and not just the barn. His cattle graze on almost all of the property with the exception of what he uses for hay that year.

Not sure how government is going to regulate it, if it even passes. Pretty sure it will have some sort of boundary limitations that need to be posted though. Wait and see. Could be a couple of years yet even if it does go thru.

These events are not happening at levels to suggest there are not resources in place for this. OPP chase sleds with Helicopters for crying out loud plus a 15K fine is a GUARANTEE of court date, NO ONE is paying that on the nose and that means a full court day for the officer/s involved. A quick 1hr drive with the perp to the farm or property in question with a cel phone to record is much cheaper, less police resources, applies EQUALLY to the idiots and the plain ignorant ( who I fear are the main problem ) and this lesson taught will not be forgotten either.

Heavy fines is not the way to prevention, its only going to stop re-offenders and marketing a message of heavy fines etc as a deterrent is also VERY expensive and a huge time suck. Put the police to WORK doing service again. Off ass, knock on doors, hear farmer explain,. apologize and have it written for second offense? 15k no arguments here

Go check out hsa site. Another close incident of riders riding closed trails. Hope no one gets hurt riding trail 15 or that might be end of snowmobile trail use on some trails there. Can’t fix stupid!

Nothing like riding thru an active blast site and living to tell about it. That could have turned bad real quick.

Sudbury Trail Plan
We have been receiving a lot of messages from riders asking when trails will open, we apologize for the delay.

We have been attempting to renegotiate some of our land-use agreements to offer access our district trail system. Until these agreements are in place, we will not be able to open some of our trails and others we will be risk managing for the season. This may result in more closures or partial closures throughout the season.

Weather has also delayed opening many trails so far. We are hopeful we will be able to maintain what we have this winter.

We will continue to seek resolutions to these issues in order to fully open the trail system in the future.

We THANK ALL the Volunteers who have worked so hard to prepare the trail system.

D Trail between Chelmsford and MR80, C111D between Windy Lake and Highway 144 and C Trail between Coniston and the Town of Wahnapitae will not open.

I would think both the moonlight and Chateau Guay are really going to feel the hurt from these closures.  Not much to ride from when you are there.

I see on the ITG, the west side of the canyon isn't red anymore, it's just gone.

It was removed because no lup could be secured for this season. So district deleted it from guide. They also stated an agreement is possible for next season and trail could be reinstated, no guarantee though.

Good thing I didn’t buy new zero turn last week. It would look like that here too if I did. Too early for snow here anyways. Crops are Maturing and drying fast we are at least 4 weeks ahead of last year.  Maybe it is first signs of an early winter. Should be running beans by third week of September if dry weather holds.
