We made it back to the truck it was a warm day today trails are very soft ,the trail from Chapleau C101D is a fantastic trail really enjoyed our ride to Halfway Haven this morning(,caution on C101D  groomer broke down on trail) The trail down to Sault Ste Marie was good it was groomed going up to halfway ,the Groomer was still at Halfway.

I am happy we made the decision to come back early the roads are getting Bare from the trail past Driftwood lodge after this warm up I think they will be shot, our sleds where overheating coming into here, The local trails are the best I have been on in this area they are Fantastic,

Hope the warm-up does not kill the trails  the weather here is calling for warm temps for a couple of days and rain tuesday:(

We are relaxing in this hotel going to the casino and get dinner

Zrtkat & Crew will return next Year

I hope every one get their trips in

Great report and I would have done the same thing as you. Once I gambled with the weather and had to ride 250 Km's back to my truck in plus 10 c, in pouring rain. Always good to play it safe. Been a funny year here in Ontario. Things just started Getting good and then another big thaw comes. Hopefully next year is better, cheers :)

We had a great ride, although a shorter one than we normally have. Just thankful to have been up there riding. We meet some very nice people along the way. Always a great adventure riding in Ontario, and we got to ride some trail's we haven't rode in years. All in all it was fantastic! I will be counting the days untill next season.

Beware of the gas station north of massy. They got into my credit card for 2,000+. I can't believe it! What the hell did they buy!!! I spent 61.20. Screenshot_20170219-222337.thumb.png.fc9aba30dd848ed4e4fd240ce30a8cf0.png

Friggin' asswipes .... I can't believe people still do that .....  We always pay cash now, as years ago we had a gas station (Opaz Gas) try that with our debit card, and our FIL's credit card, within minutes of each other.

You have insurance from the credit card company I hope ....

Glad the shortened ride was good.

Pictures great too.

Hate when that happens with cards.  Never has come back on me, but card needs to be reissued.

You made a good decision as even Hearst was getting burnt down.  Had to use scatchers yesterday morning coming back to Dub. All iced up. All logging areas getting bad because they were scrapped down before thaw. Slush getting bad on most lakes.

Putting off next ride to wait for winter to come back. Soft trails even north.

Take Care.

i will be up tomorrow night, riding starting thurs 2/23, I can give report then. but even dub was still calling for above freezing until then. if we get a few inches of fluff it might be ok. for sure you will need scratchers. cooling and hyfax wear, will be the BIGGEST issue with the trails once it gets cold again. with the melt comes running water, and lake slush. towns will be bare, carbides will take a beating.

they are not going to lose everything, they have feet of snow on the trail, and in the bush. road crossings, parking lots, town access, and ANYTHING that had been PLOWED SLIGHTLY THIS SEASON, will be dirt, mud ect... think late spring riding, and expect the worse, if it is better, it is a bonus.

right now, I am planning on not riding unless we get some fluff. it will be a sit in the house, relaxing kind of weekend. :D Ski

Hi Guys,

We waited and drove up on Friday.  Picked up my trailer at Blueberry Friday (we had moved it out from Searchmont the previous Monday).  Drove up to start at Dub and rode to Hearst on Saturday and back on Sunday.   Then went to Ernie's Sunday night.

A quick 500+ miles.  Went out to the Marina on the lake near Hearst and rode lakes.

Had ice and needed scratchers Sunday morning in Hearst.  Also, Sunday night in Dub.

Not the best even north.  The Hornepayne logging and low snow just north of the Kaybi River crossing left lots of dirt spots on the trail and road hops around washouts.

You would not have been happy even way north.  Logging sections all to dirt along the A Trail also.

Take Care.

Scott & Paige.

.... and you didn't get a hold of me .... I'm hurt .... lol !

We had supper at the Marina Friday night, trails were not bad then, it was mild so snow was soft and wet.  Saturday riding near Cochrane was same.  Sunday it firmed up pretty solid, we didn't ride though.  Yesterday (Monday) they were hard as rock, scratchers were a must.

If you like riding logging roads and lakes, Hearst is a great place to ride... plenty of both around here.  You probably had fun on the chain of lakes.

When this freezes back up on Thursday, it'll be like concrete.  Prolly last thru May if it stays cold enough.

might not be able to go to dub now... due to the melt, and runoff... there was a culvert wash out on 17, approx. 15km north of wawa. the highway was closed up until 12:20 today. now they have one lane open but, it is raining and still warm so... the rest of the highway "could" wash out totally. this same stretch did this a few years ago, and cost mo and john half of their motel. :(

it is trans con hwy 17 so, it is a commerce road, they will get it open quick (I hope) but, not sure if it will be in time for us to go through tomorrow afternoon, evening. FML. :( Ski

Thanks..

I saw that you were asking about a trip next week and thought you would see what I wrote to zrtkat about a couple days back.

I am holding off riding for a couple weeks to let it come back, but since ski is going up, he is your best bet for info on early next week riding in those parts.

I rode to Marathon the week previous and what was green should not have been in my opinion.  The problem is that we were the first to ride that trail in a while and so the Marathon Club did not know what had happened to all the washouts and that foot or more of new powder made it difficult to follow the trail in the open hills.

I see Hornepayne has made all their trails yellow and it is good to see them trying to honestly show what the warm has done to the trails.  Between Hornepayne and the Dub trails should be yellow for sure.  LOW SNOW.

It may be fine by next week, but I will wait to hear what the weather actually does.

Hi Dennis,

It was a quick trip to show Paige's girlfriend the north on the free weekend and we wanted to ride east, but with the warm temps the trail got soft and riders told us about the logging which removed most of the snow from the A trail for a few miles before Kap.

We instead ran out to the lakes and played around until Paige saw a sign and lead us to the Marina.  She lead us back again on the lakes and channels which can be quite confusing to us foreigners'.

Thought about bothering you, but it would have been short notice.

I will bother you next time!

I know where you live.

Scott & Paige

All good Scott, you deserve some family time just like the rest of us.

The lakes are fun in the boat , I used to fish them often, but not since we've started camping full season. I could lead a sled tour of the chain of lakes someday maybe. .. :)

Well they had the big worsh out open in about 3 days that last time.

The Queen takes 17 pretty seriously, but honestly, unless it's going to any of the North Shore communities or The Soo, Hwy 11 is safer anyhow for through traffic.

that 3 days, was when there was no snow on the ground.

to 'REALLY FIX IT" with these weather conditions. it is going to take ALOT.

I heard they have 1 lane open for travel now. we are going to risk it, and head up in the morning. I am not betting we will ride much. wawa got close to 2" of rain. that, the poor repair engineering, and the melt off is what did this AGAIN!!! Ski

A search of the Soo Star only shows that it was closed on Tuesday until further notice.

I checked both Luc's and Russ's facebook pages, and no mention there either.

.. and Mo is off in the sun yonder, so ....

It would seem that at least Luc would have mentioned it if he is on the other side of it.

Any updates?

Any pics/video this time?
