So I now make a greater effort to alternate sides I tend to use that my sled goes on.

I get the safety side of it, just do not see the justification with these trailers.
I have always towed with a truck too, either 1/2 or 3/4 - maybe if I used a lighter & smaller vehicle, I would have a different opinion.
I couldn’t agree more. I’ve turned a lot of miles pulling trailer’s of all variations over the years, and maybe just the way I was taught and told, but for me, if there’s more than one axle, I want want the brakes. Just nice to have the extra help if you find yourself in quick jam.

If your trailer has a gross trailer weight, vehicle and load of 1,360 kilograms or more, it must have brakes strong enough to stop and hold the trailer.
Because of the 1360kg or 2,998lbs weight rating for brakes being required it is common to see manufacturers use a 3,500lbs axle and derate capacity to 2,990lbs. My single axle open ATV trailer uses a 3,500lbs axle with max weight of trailer rated at 2,990 lbs. It rarely sees 2 atvs loaded and never winter.
I am not saying brakes on a single axle sled trailer are not useful only when legally required.
I remember years ago my buddies had a 4 place open sled trailer with hydraulic brakes. We were lucky when trailer started pushing my buddies full size truck we down an snow and ice covered hill and that we had the entire road to maneuver. That day changed our thought process really quickly.
Been there and done that. Not a lot of fun.

I’ve been riding cats for last 11 years. Was Solely Polaris before hand. Only reason I switched was my poo dealer had moved and became too far to drive to. Made the switch to cat as dealer opened just up the road from me. I’ve got 19,000kms on my 2012 f800 and motor hasn’t been touched. Was hoping to upgrade last year but ex’s cost a lot of money! Lol!! Hoping to upgrade for the upcoming season and I’ll be likely making the switch to doo as I’ve never ridden one

I feel your pain. I’ve had multiple bowties lifted from my lane over the years. Just can’t bring myself to drive anything else!

Gas at Halfway Haven was $3.50 when I was there the day before it closed for comparison.
Is halfway as remote as base camp? I’m dam near certain that base camp is coming out on top with prices up to and north of 6$ per litre. Perhaps they are finding more and more are not stopping for as much fuel with newer sleds getting quite a bit better mileage?

We come home on Friday. It was pretty much a convoy of trucks and trailers heading north, all the way back past London.

Funny you say that. Mine did the same thing last week. Didn’t have any new batteries w me and wasn’t going to get any, so I swapped the ones from the remote at the cabin we had rented!

On tuesday morning the trails were rough heading North, on the return the A trail was groomed.....the rest of the week all the trails were great, the only rough area being the river (A trail) as the groomer doesn't run it.....to say bumpy would be an understatement
Tuesday run to Larder Lake and ate at the Muddy Moose.......great food.
Wednesday run to Elk Lake Eco Centre for Lunch then to Kirland Lake and back
Thursday run to Temagami Inn for lunch.,.....then back up to the L190 and down the A107Q (lake run)
The A107Q is a must ride....the views running on the lake were spectacular.....there were some soft areas, but nothing to be of great concern.
Stayed at the Econo Inn,.....very clean and you could walk into Alis Restaurant without going outside. Right on the trails and Esso across the road.
Snow was deep if you missed a turn
The ambulance didn't see the sign saying "Snowmobile Trail.....Your GPS is wrong.....Do not Enter" There was 12 of us....we managed to dig and push it back about 3 meters before finding out they had a tow truck coming......"See ya"

I just got back from that area. Was there for a week. Trails were fantastic all week. Except for the Englhart area. Was beat up pretty bad by Wednesday. When we left yesterday, everything in the area had been groomed or working at it. Some trails could be a bit beat up after the weekend, but you should be fine!

Just noticed on the ITG that there is a section of this trail closed. Did I miss something?? Was certain it was green the other day?? Heading that way next weekend. Just curious if anyone knows what’s up? Was planning some loops around there. May have to reroute. Tia.

Well this could be part of issues. Smooth rock had a groomer stuck and some breakdowns. Also there is hydro working on west side. As for east side, there is logging at one part. And on top of it they’ve got lots of snow so likely trying to keep ahead of the already busy flow of sleds in and out of town. Furthermore after the lil debacle that ensued earlier in the season between everyone, they likely aren’t going to rush to do the canyon tour.

Just booked a week at elk lake wilderness resort. Never stayed before but have heard many from here say it’s great! Looking forward to it!

Rode out of Ilderton at 8am Monday morning, back to trailer at 2pm with 220kms. Off to work. This morning was informed by the nasty ex that kids wouldn’t be coming to me ( inset gun)! FML!🤦🏻♂️…. So, off to Ilderton again!.. riding at 2 and back to trailer around 9 with 320k of solo riding. Trails
for the most part we’re in decent shape. Nice to get out and see lots of folks out riding before the monsoon we are expected to get!🤷♂️🤦🏻♂️

My Dad was from Kirkland Lake. Growing up we would head up for 3-4 days (up to a week) to hunt grouse in all his old hunting spots. Now I bring my girls up for a short trip to hunt birds too (amazing how even forests change over 35 years). I still have not had the opportunity to go sledding up there yet.. but it's certainly on my to do list!
I’ve been up there a handful of times over my 20 years of riding and it never disappoints!

Worth phoning some local dealerships to see if they would trailer you around for a fee or even the club or some local towing companies. Might not want to do it as a business but you could find someone willing to do a one off for a few bucks. Good luck!

I suggest you hold off on cancelling plans, but you may wish to have a backup reservations, as I have done.
I seen someone had posted on 705 sleds that they were offering a shuttle service for this portion. Could haul 6 sleds but only take 4 passengers. 200$ I think it said.

Love that sign! Took pics last year when I was over that way on a day trip. Want get some to incorporate into our trail system here in the tail end of D5….. should be distributed throughout all of OFSC
