  1. Anyone have the definitive answer on attempting to stabilize crap-e fuel? Happily, my sleds run 87, so the least amount of corn crap, but I've seen what it can do to an injector. Maybe run it as dry as the pickup will allow and add the canned E-free stuff from CTC with stabilzer? When I siphon, I'm still at 2 bars on my (Japanese) Yamahas. I always ran a tank of E-free in at the end of the season and added Sta-bil with zero issues 2 sleds, 8 years.
  2. Hi! Couldn't log in, or get my password re-set last year. šŸ˜¬ So I tried again this year. Bazinga! For better or worse.. I'm back. South Ottawa people, let's ride!
  3. So, where's the dead end? Is our association doing all it can to save it's self? Or just watching Rome burn? Seems to me this is more than a grooming service, although some feel that's it's only purpose.
  4. Not to tread on Gobills post, (Thanks!)n but I tripped over this again on my laptop, and it's a challenging read for me with my abilities, so here it is in one bite. I know there's 2 sides to this story, but the other side is less than a model of transparency. No wonder there's accusations of politics.... Anyhoo... Year after year, and itā€™s becoming worse. So, unfortunately itā€™s come to the point where we would like to inform the public that we have been doing our best efforts to help the clubs in any and every way we possibly can, to get the loop open and returned to the green outline that we all already saw and want to see again. Youā€™d be surprised to know that both clubs seem to present the images of the ā€œbest snowmobile destinationsā€ mean while here is the truth... we realize there are unforeseen events and obstacles that need to be addressed of course. But really.... and then say to people we donā€™t provide accommodation so they canā€™t groom. Straight up, bs. Hereā€™s the facts. Cochrane, we done above and beyond that the club has never considered making reality. And Smoothrock, well..... joke. Come on eh. You donā€™t want sledding in your community. The town sign says ā€œthe worlds best snowmobile destinationā€..... donā€™t blame hydro cause hydro works every year and wil have to do service every year because itā€™s accessible during the winter cause itā€™s a swamp in the summer. Stop telling the public itā€™s cause of us the trail isnā€™t open. We are a private business. Not a club and not a warm up shack. We have done our best to turn this into a 5 star premium experience with as much class we can, given the circumstances. We had a vision snd we are achieving it. Before you hear or listen to the ā€œtelephone gameā€ about the trail being red (closed) I want to explain what skin we put into the game regarding grooming. We have bent over backwards trying to accommodate groomers. We realize that grooming is one of the most important parts of you guys leaving us with a good experience. Very simple ... Happy groomer = good trails = happy riders. To make the 12 hour trip eassier for the groomer we bought (donated) for a new brushed attachment straight up, 3000$ as a gold or platinum meneber donation thing, provided a 5000L diesel tank on site, and CARRY the fuel bill for the season. I stay up to countless hours and trips back and forth at hours at a shot to go to and from camp cause the decision to groom is last min in the day and I find out at 7,8,9pm the day of to be told that he will be there at 3 am. The coffee and food is on us, the coffee is always always ready..... I make sure cause I have good values and morals. I would never be rude like that. I make sure there is a fresh sheets and pillows on the modified container that houses them ... a warm bathroom thatā€™s heated that costs the generators to run, and not to mention.. We paid the groomers everytime they came up 100$ to make the trip a genuine incentive. This is not to boast, this is not to get anyoneā€™s back up but we are hearing and starting to hear rumors and this is the facts. The demands and sabotage efforts and lack of communications with what are supposed to be the best clubs, is not cool. The reputation to build over the last few years was hard to build and the choice of personalized signs saying no gas is not right. Why say no gas? Instead of using one of the 10 signs we purchased that instead should say trail closed and we have never even seen the signs. We are open and we have gas. Groom the trails fully and stop with the games. It was open at Christmas time. The lack of communication and ignorance from northern corridor and both clubs is rediculous. We have reached out for the opportunities to better the tourism industry and sport itself and current and future insites. Letā€™s continue building the worlds best snowmobile destination and letā€™s all be on the same page so the rumors stop! If anyone thinks we have not met the demands then please let us know. We do everything and go so far for everyone and itā€™s alwayyysssss issues and problems and headache from the people that SHOULD BE supporting US. Not pushing us to consider closing shop.
  5. Interesting FB post from the proprietors of the Canyon enterprise yesterday, if anyone cares to hear their point of view.
  6. It really doesn't matter what model they follow without any viable enforcement. Next time you meet one of the nice guys actually mounted on sleds, ask just how many of them are out. I had an OPP officer tell me in confidence last year that there was one patrol from Renfrew/Kingston/Cornwall. He may have been s#itting me, but that's basically D1. 2 sleds. 2 guys. Not much of a deterrent.
  7. And it's happening on our watch. Because we let it.
  8. Hence my comment. Thanks, Spiderman. Parking lots terrify me. I drove field service for 25 years. You can pretty much get away with murder in a parking lot. Trusting someone to apply road rules there will get you in big trouble. The stop signs are meaningless. I was T-boned in a company vehicle by an idiot in a parking lot, despite my heightened alertness. It took our lawyers and insurance companies well over a year to get it sorted, all the while someone or other was giving me the stink-eye. Commercial insurance is expensive. One good claim can get your whole fleet policy cancelled. I had to hire my own lawyer just to get my own head-office A-holes off my case. They wanted to dismiss me, and I refused to drive until they got their collective s#it together.
  9. Highway traffic act does not apply in a parking lot. Private. I'm sure someone could explain how this is different. Or why this private property is patrolled, when it seems it's sadly lacking elsewhere.
  10. Pardon my absence.. Is Kris back?
  11. If no trail patrol will be provided by those we pay to provide it... Let's not tolerate the bullshit where they won't allow us to patrol things ourselves. I cannot imagine asking/expecting people to invest vast quantities of volunteer time into something that has no protection. That's a sand castle. If you enjoy building something to watch it get washed away have at it. Don't ask me to help. I volunteer a LOT of time into our single track dirt bike trails. Nobody is going to stand in my way of defending them against idiots that contribute nothing except getting us closer to losing our privileges. The alternative is to sit home when yet another area gets shut down, and kicking yourself for doing nothing to prevent it.
  12. So far I'm impressed. No, I don't own a Bombi... This app highlights much of what I've mentioned about the PQ app, and how much better ours could be. Because examples! How about that map background. It's an actual map! With a trail superimposed. Instead of a trail, with approximate map suggestions behind it. I know what will be on my electronics this season, should we ever get one.
  13. No enforcement, no consequences, and everyone knows it. Not a recipe for longevity. Sorry for the negativity, but as a somewhat new return to sledding, I just can't understand this.
  14. On this, has anyone looked at the Bombi app? I just downloaded the app on Android, and I'm impressed so far. My main complaint about the ITG/OFSC app is the unexplained lack of a viable background/base map. This is ridiculous. Bombi app seems to have some bugs to work out, but my main complaint about the OFSC offering has been addressed right out of the box.
  15. G-Max GM11 I ride a LOT of single track dirt bike the other 9 months of the year, and a helmet without a visor just seems wrong. Normally the breath box is in the back pocket, Light balaclava. Bula from Costco, cheap as chips! I ride with goggles when it's warmer than -10 sometimes, NICE to have that option. The shield works well. It's electric but I think I only plugged it in a couple of times last year during COLD night riding when there was a lot of stop and go. I wear sunglasses. A LOT. Anti-fog safety glasses work great. Another X-over from dirt biking, where I nearly never wear goggles in the single track. Fogging is minimal, just crack the visor if it's in play when starting off, and leave it open when stopped. The only possible complaint is the noise at highway speeds. Scala helps. Another pic of Diane being very happy on her "hand me down" Apex.
  16. A Seat Jack came with my used Apex in 2014. You could pick the sled up with it if required. Totally solid. Sled seat comes off, rails are mounted to the tunnel, Jack Seat comes on and off with 4 thumb screws in seconds. I have no pic of it mounted on this PC, but the rails are visible here. Diane had ridden on a 2-up sled briefly, a Venture, and found the Seat Jack on the Apex preferable. Make sure the seat is the same generation as your sled, and keep an eye on Kijiji and FB marketplace. The original ones come up from time to time. Set up the sag as best you can with 2 up, also get scratchers to add lube to the sliders which will be getting a workout. Enjoy the Apex. Diane has taken over ridership, and is absolutely thrilled with it.
  17. Not picking up the return shipping in this case is unconscionable IMHO. Customer service has taken a gigantic dump in the face of, or as a result of, or just using it as an excuse. (NOT going to say the C word.) If this debacle weeds out some of the companies that won't step up, so be it. Others will take up the slack. I have encountered INCREDIBLE service lately. Some are using current conditions as a reason to shine. And some companies that I will never deal with again under ANY circumstances.
  18. It's been 6 years since I have been checked for a pass or any other credentials in Ontario. I see MANY more sleds every year without stickers. If a fix is required, I firmly believe that's the answer.
  19. Someone is likely answering pointy questions about the real costs of outsourcing manufacturing to 3rd world countries... Or not.
  20. 3-4cm on the ground yesterday, stopped by 2 melted by 7. Groundhog day? Woke up to another 3-4 on the deck this morning. I was not expecting that.
  21. I stored the Apex in a garden shed once. Once. I had checked in on it pretty frequently, then lapsed. When I went back after a month... Little buggers had pulled the SOS pads out of the muffler outlets, and moved in. The "nose cone" where the CDI and a MILE of wire lives had new tenants. Last year the sleds lived in the trailer, this year, I WILL be travelling, unless the military set up road blocks, so I'll be needing the trailer to bring bikes and quad. Going to find a way to stack them on shelves in the garage.
  22. Main thing I noticed about my tandem axle is manoeuvering the thing. I ran out of real estate once, having just switched from my 6x12 single axle to a 7x14 (+V) tandem. I unhooked, and attempted to do a short radius turn when re-connected, tore up the side yard, and dug ruts with the truck. It sure won't pivot like a single axle. My (much more experienced) pal mentioned with his tandem, if a tire or bearing goes on his, (with Torsion axles, like my single had...) all he does is put on a ratchet strap, remove the remains of wheel/tire and drive on. On the sled/Cargo trailer issue, I use my trailer very occasionally for actually moving stuff, and in the off-season, it connects to my A-class as a garage for "stuff" a couple of dirt bikes, and her ATV. I wouldn't own a trailer I can't stand up in. I can't back my Nytro into the thing for anything. I have a 3500# winch attached to the tool cabinet, with dedicated battery, and a wireless remote.
