  1. Compensate the land owners. End-of. Groomer operators are now compensated. Like them, if they wish to donate the compensation, there's no stopping them. Good on 'em. I just don't support risk with no reward. Ask yourself if you would allow access to your property, with existing lack of law enforcement. If there was a demand for a group insurance policy, some underwriter would be all over it. I'd subscribe.
  2. Wynne-bag's Ontario liberals (R.I.H.) ((rest in hell...)) fumbled that one horribly. I've met a LOT of land owners. Terrific people, for the most part. We need to show empathy. Put yourself in their shoes for a moment. Under existing circumstances, would you participate? Enforce the law. Incarcerate trespassers. That will keep them on-board. Give them a small thank you, like a tax rebate. Just to show appreciation for their risk, and inevitable headaches. Save the few remaining volunteers all the re-routes, and the rest of us a lot of road running. It really doesn't need to be complicated.
  3. I can't see the government contributing financially, despite Quebec using a VERY successful investment model. I'd be happy to see low, or no cost incentives. Tax breaks for land owners, some sort of appreciation for volunteers, and about 1000% more enforcement of compliance and trespassing violations. If they can't make #3 work, relinquish the responsibility to the clubs. It doesn't need to be complicated or expensive. Unless someone wants it to be.
  4. I read part of the OFSC blurb. The fact that he rides was missing. Not important I guess. My pal and local club Prez filled me in. Fingers crossed.
  5. Don't quote me, but when I was looking into the Rhino thing, Canadian products were limited to 1 watt, where the US models kicked out 5 watts. No savvy consumers were buying the Canadian market product, opting to buy 'Stateside instead, and the Canadian buyers were VERY disappointed. Some years have passed so I may be a bit off here.
  6. I almost never recommend, but Frank at Shock tec https://shocktec.ca/ treated me like a valued customer. My phone call was answered, by FRANK, all questions answered, and service was quick, no delays, no bulls#it. I've both bought and had shocks serviced.
  7. I read the words Police beat in the link, and really got my hopes up.
  8. I find startled speeding idiots tend to go for the brakes, and present sideways, offering a larger profile. Sadly, the old "leave yourself an out" chestnut that works on the roads does not always apply. Trails are only so wide, and if they were wider, idiots would only go faster. I have gone left to avoid out of control idiots taking corners wide, but only as a LAST resort to avoid collision. You leave yourself open to being on the wrong side of the trail when his pals come along. Happily, by then the sight line is usually better, and the trail is straighter when you have to deal with that.
  9. That was my plan for the visor. Didn't bother, as the helmet just plain works. G-Max G11 electric. I'd be interested in a self-powered, either rechargeable or replaceable battery version.
  10. I wonder if a self powered setup is in the works. I think I might have plugged my G-Max in once this season. Pre-emptively.
  11. Can they charge people with trespassing on Crown Land? Last I heard, we couldn't keep trucks off.
  12. 91. 91 is what you usually need to avoid putting subsidized corn in your tank. Stabilizer, then drain in Fall, snowblower gets my sled gas, John Deere gets my (3) dirtbike and ATV storage fuel in the spring.
  13. They always did a lot of stuff that on an individual level, made no sense. Never were a nickel and dime, screw customers on warrantee, cut corners kind of manufacturer. They're not in a receivership dodging buy-out friendly sketchy future situation like some other manufacturers. Yamaha is huge. Anything could happen. Meanwhile, I figure my sleds are at about 1/2 life, from a motor standpoint.
  14. Mine start fine. 50k between my Apex and Nytro. Taking good care of them, hoping for real Yamahas to return. Could happen.
  15. How many KM on the Vector? Looks like the shaft might be off center, could have been camera angle, or happened posthumously...
  16. Yes, the 127 didn't look good. Looking unless it was snowing hard & the road was snow covered I'd avoid it as it's almost 5 klicks of road running. Is there a sure-fire way to tell a carbide killer from a roadside fun-run? I have seen both, one a disgusting sled torture, and one a delight, 10 feet off the road. Both look the same on the ITG. Social media helps here, but shouldn't the ITG be a source of credible info? It would really help with trip planning, especially as Spring (ugh) draws near.
  17. Why in Ottawa, I wonder? There are 2 dealers here, no show, no aftermarket. Just 1,000,000 people.
  18. Bought by a defense contractor. Textron. I can't see them continuing using Yamaha motors. They also bought out a motor manufacturer, the name escapes me. Several of my "die hard" Cat friends are moving on. Reluctantly.
  19. Happily, my (Japanese) Yamahas are holding up just fine. Theoretically, the cat buy out will lead to real Yamahas returning. I haven't lost hope.
  20. Could be improved upon. This is a well travelled road. Learn from those who have gone before. Lots of good nav apps out there. The constant re-loading is a pain. Pulling it out of my pocket and waiting, then waiting for the GPS dot to move.... Wow. Little tip, turn off the auto rotate screen on the phone. That way you don't have to re-zoom all of NA down to your area every time the phone moves.
  21. That, in a nutshell, is why so many people are no longer going by the ITG. That and the little issue about no enforcement. I see riders on my local trails from my car. Trails that are not open, and about which even the regular news outlets are getting air time about. (Remember television? ) Has anyone been charged with trespassing on a closed trail? I think they can either get on this, or let people use the available "work-arounds" at their disposal. I don't wish to be some sort of outlaw, but I'm not going to trailer away from my local trails when people, including those with inside info are out riding them. I'm sure the ITG current model was a good idea when trails opened, and then closed, but those days are over. I do hate to keep bringing up the model of our neighbors to the east, but I can get on the spot updates, visit local clubs to get info from their websites, get ACTUAL trail conditions (remember what somebody started this forum for?) and find out when the last groomer passed, and decide which trail to take at an intersection. And we get open/closed 3 days late? Canada Post would be faster.
  22. Thank goodness for social media. I have lost count of the days I have enjoyed local trails, opened by the clubs, days before the ITG etc caught up.
