  1. Really happy for you. I'm still waiting on word on mine, which has a December month delivery, so means nothing. I was beginning to think I would have to invite you to join OX and Me in the POOG club, with some of the posts you were making about if your sled was late. (POOG=Pissed Off Old Guys).(All in fun). Maybe I'll see you this winter on my annual Pembroke to Spectacle Lake day trip. Cheers
  2. I haven't worn a vest yet. I find I'm bulked up enough to try and stay warm. However, this product looks really interesting, and not as bulky. Anyone try one of these? 509 R-Mor Protection Vest (Black) About $139 US and $189 CDN. Product Details It doesn’t matter how good a rider you are. At some point, things will go wrong. 3. 30KM, so 45mins up and 45mins back. Kind of like cruising Toronto's Young St from Bloor down to the lake, back in the 70's. 45 mins of stop and go traffic...
  4. I've got 6 sleds looking for fuel (and possibly lunch, at least coffee) at Halfway on Wednesday Feb 9, 2022. That is our Duberville to Chapleau day.
  5. Hello Snowmobilers! 7 Dec 2021 It’s the most wonderful time of the year, and the Companion Hotel-Motel is ready to welcome you with open arms. The trails are not open yet, but our Club Voyageur de Hearst is working very hard to open them this week or next week. We will also be hosting big events this winter: December 31 with the New Year's celebration February 5th, Vintage Snowmobile Show and rally February 13th Super Bowl 2022 Family Weekend February 21st Book now, places are limited. 6. Stopped by my dealer East of Ottawa to get an update on my new REN X 900TR. A salesman suggested I find my salesman and ask him(thanks). Salesman did note that they have received about 15 of the 100 or so Mach Z sold, and if I haven't received the call about a Feb delivery for my sled, I should be good. So I stopped by the other location and got an update from the build scheduler. Good news is that I'm number 2 on his list for my model, (1.5 track and remote adjust) and Boss Web still shows December for that model to that dealer. I'm guessing early Jan delivery to me at this point. Week long trip is first week of Feb, and I have once before had to get the sled first inspection done while on the trip. I'll stay optimistic.
  7. It seems to me that you can edit for awhile after you post something, then at some point you lose your ability to edit. I don't know if is 2, 12, 24 ?? hrs..
  8. Gaspe and Spring storms - Nice. This is a mid Feb storm, which ended up shortening the trip for everyone, and ending the season for me. Gaspe, you have to factor in weather days. It can take them 2 days to get trails open after a storm. Great riding when the trails are open.
  9. Brain, You are showing your age. I was on a business trip in San Fransico with a young female work colleague years ago. We were in different hotels. So at the end of the work day, I suggested we hook up later and have dinner, discuss the work plan for the next day. She looked me in the eye, smiled and said: " you and I will never hook-up". The term "hook-up" has an entirely different meaning these days to when you and I used it decades ago. It no longer means "meet up"
  10. I'm Eastern ON, and there are some "special" trail numbering scenarios here in the Eastern townships, that may make the day frustrating without a "heads-up". Example: South on the A213, then take the 30. It wont be marked East or South...It really helps to know the town names in the direction you want to go.. If you are including the Pembroke area, I have a favorite ride from Pembroke to Specticle Lake lodge that you should consider.
  11. I incorporate the L143 and Auld Reekie lunch and fuel stop on our trips when we stage out of NL and head to Timmins first. (This year Cochrane first (counter-clockwise trip). May use that route coming out of Timmins this year back to NL. (The new Polaris owner is unsure if he can make that distance?)
  12. I agree and booked this year. However, when you park the sleds in the barn, it can sometimes be a rude surprise when you open the curtain.
  13. You can ask for the upgraded rooms! I think the sinks are white instead of green or pink. I remember that place when the pool was open.
  14. About double. I think the 2010 Apex LTX was about $10K give or take. The REN X 900 T R is about $22K, give or take. Ya, me doing the same thing today might end 36 years...:-) Never mind the two Friday date nights at the Hospital Emerg because of snowmobiling..
  15. Sure. Kapuskasing - 16 Feb 2010 Middle of the week long trip - Guy on the right, my brother (black hat) is arranging financing for my new sled, guy on the left my nephew is helping. I'm (black jacket) arranging the insurance, and the dealer is getting a OFSC permit transfer. The 2010 Apex LTX is getting assembled that morning, about 2.5 hrs. Old sled - black GSX (2nd piston in 3 years) (Piston blew 15KM south of the Canyon - just try and recover from there.) GSX is GONE!. New sled - White Yamaha Apex Came back from the trip. I asked her if she noticed anything different about the sled - she asked if I got it painted. Her face (video capture) when I told her the story about the 2nd piston and the new sled - Priceless...:-) However, back to the $36K Mach - yes a sled can be bought on the spot, but it wasn't $10K over MSRP. Someone with a lot of money(not me), didn't get that way by being stupid with his money. I still stand by the fact that guys are walking from the Spring checks, and all someone has to do is call up a few dealers and get there name on a stand-by list, i.e. my buddy will walk from his Mach Z, going with the Polaris - no one is perfect!
  16. Tim, Welcome, and ignore OX. He, like me is a POOG; Pissed Off Old Guys, with Jack Nicholson being our poster boy. We enjoy being grumpy, because it is fun at our age. Thank you for helping with the trails.
  17. I wish you were my son...:-) Last winter he was home on leave we were able to get a March ride in. He rode my 2013 power steering and I had to ride a borrowed 2010.. H'mm
  18. Good to know, as my buddy and I will likely try and do an extended QC weekend trip early March. Being in Ottawa, actually shorter to drive to Val du Or then northern ON. The 6 person trip (early Feb) is now fully flipped over to ON, which for the two of us on new and different sleds, is more comfortable. I saw the Lake side first floor rooms at the Waterfront (NL) were already booked 5 Feb by sledders. Anyone from this forum?
  19. That's an impressive bridge. Previous bridge was washed away in 2017.
  20. But, and why my group trip is flipping back to ON from QC. It appears that QC only has on-line trail permit purchases this year. Which then forces my group to purchase the week permit at the beginning of January for a planned trip the first week of Feb. Seems that it is advisable to factor in "several days" for FCMQ permit processing (you have to have created an account on-line to buy), then you have to factor in postage time, which can also be "several days" (1 + weeks). An early Feb trip has too much risk, from 1. not getting the permit in time, and 2. a hotel we planned to use has stated that the COVID status isn't a cancelation reason. For those reasons, I'm presently flipping our week long trip back to ON, and doing our northern loop counter clock-wise, just for a change. FCMQ Web site To acquire a trail permit, you must purchase it online and this, for all categories included! https://fcmq.qc.ca/en/trail-permit/informations/
  21. Great timing thank you. Our trip has flipped back to ON from QC, and I was just drafting the trip plan last night. Looks to only be another 12KM using DUB1. I'll check my GPS data from 2020 to confirm. Doing the Northern loop counter clock wise for a change.
  22. Somewhat similar story. Was coming down from Matagami to Amos and got behind two couples, with Trail Patrol vests on, riding the center of the trail. Lots of straight stretches, so I pulled to the left side so I could be clearly seen in the compulsory left hand mirror, not too close, but close enough to suggest we wanted to pass them. Would not move, 50km\hr steady state, KM after KM. As we were doing 900KM in 2.5 days, plan was to be at AMOS at noon, not 3PM time. We passed them. Well, it was really cold for March, so soon after we stopped at a warm up shack. They show up, and walk all around our two sleds, check the temp trail permit, and keep looking for the reg. plate. Finally come in and ask why we don't have a plate installed. I fill him in on the custom numbers.
  23. Planning in Nov isn't way ahead by my standard, just smart. I've had years where trying to book specific hotels have already been full with hockey teams, late in the fall. I start some notional planning during the summer. Not always easy to find 3 rooms, ground floor, near each other. Westway is an awesome place. They even have hair dryers to loan out to the 4 strokes at -38c.
  24. I had the honour of attending the local service today with my 2nd Lieutenant daughter. She finally asked what my medals represent. My time was between major conflicts, yet I still think about how many Service funerals I attended over 18 years. Lest We Forget.
  25. I have "some time" on a Herc. One trip in particular stands out, about 10-12 days of flying every day, 27,000 nautical miles. It was called the Pacific Rim, and involved moving some stuff between ISL and SRIN on the map. As we were approaching home, we were actually going to fly over my house, (I lived 30mins away from the base) so we dropped lower (:-)) than 1300' , so that my wife knew it was time to start packing up the kids for the drive to come and get me. (long before cell phones).
