  1. I was looking last night and the section East of the warm-up shack at the power line wasn't open yet (where Cochrane and SRF meet). Nice to see it's all opened up.
  2. Good ones are hard to come by. I'm just waiting for the track to rip off of our Cheyenne so I can drop the engine in my Alpine. At least I'll be able to put heated grips on it and ride it beyond -10 ...
  3. Bunch of these up here ... one guy has a couple...
  4. Yesterday when driving towards Kap I spotted the Mattice groomer heading West along the side of the highway, drag in tow and grooming in the ditch between the power line and the road. This was about 1km from the Reesor Monument. I thought he was having a mechanical issue and was just picking an easy way to extricate the machine. Didn't think much about it until coming home. I made a point of looking along the highway, low and behold there was signage all the way along at every driveway and entrance. I had lost sight of the trail when I got near the TCPL compressor station, as I was passing a couple of transports. Once back in line I saw the trail had disappeared. Looking at the trail maps this morning earlier I hadn't seen any change. I just looked again, and bingo, the new route is on the ITG. So now we'll run some 7 or 8 km's of trail next to the highway instead of the swampy section of trail North of Reesor. The previous route followed the red dotted line. About half way across the horizontal stretch you see a road running North / South. Just to the East of that intersection on the trail there are 3 or 4 off-grid cabins / homes and the road is plowed from the highway to those cabins. Some of you may remember seeing those camps, one is very nice with a fence and very nice property. Anyway, at this point I'm not aware as to why this change was made ... was it the swamps, the camps, possibly logging in the area, who knows. I remember though that someone mentioned to me a couple of years ago that the OFSC would not be allowing any new trails running parallel to highways, reasons for which I don't know. This new route would be in violation of that protocol, but clearly was permitted to happen as it's on the ITG and signed accordingly. Is there anyone in the know that can add some valuable information regarding OFSC policy as I've mentioned above ?
  5. The window is almost un-needed for me ... the Reverse button on my '15 Doo is huge, and I'm very acquainted with the button locations now, so much that I don't even look for them anymore. But yes lighter gloves, very pleasant. I had been getting a bit of breeze in the left side muff, from the gap between the brake hose and the handlebar. I tried adjusting the hose on the reservoir, got the gap a bit smaller. Now that I'm thinking about it, a piece of 3/4" copper pipe foam insulation would be perfect to wrap the bar with and close up that gap. In fact, there's a similar gap between the throttle cable and the right side bar which could use a piece of insulation too. (not required for folks with the throttle by wire setup).
  6. Yes ... Ran up the East side and came back down (was Unavailable beyond that point, and saw afterwards from the A trail that the Kap side hadn't been brushed or groomed yet, just 1 pass with the groomer only to break through )
  7. The Beardmore loop is looking good on the Moonbeam end ...
  8. The app is there for trail location and status in an offline environment. This is its primary purpose. You can feel free to use Alexa or any other web search for accommodations fuel food etc. By the time you reach town you'll have cell service. I seriously doubt that anyone in their right mind would plan something as important as a saddlebag trip using only a cell phone.
  9. Lol thanks, and not a chance... I enjoy sledding to much...
  10. Signfan, Hornepayne is a necessary part of the equation. It's the only fuel for miles. No fuel in Caramat or Hillsport. I applaud their efforts. Manitouwadge has very little in the way of tourism to offer. If they get a groomed trail in and out of town, it'll be a major step in the right direction. Ox, I understood the same, this season. I don't know what they have for equipment and volunteers, but they must want a trail pretty badly to be that optimistic.
  11. Last 4 or 5 years I've been doing grunt work at this time of year in brushing and clearing downed trees from the Northern part of the D108A for the Hornepayne club. As of this year I'll be taking care of signage for the same stretch of trail. Risk Management training passed a couple of weeks ago.
  12. I'm riding around Kap and Moonbeam tomorrow if you wanna get in on the Shenanigans Claire ....
  13. Manitouwadge motor hotel was torn down several years ago, I don't remember there being another one. Something to be researched. And necessary if the town wants to have touring riders do more than gas and go.
  14. I would love to see this happen. Accommodations are near zilch in Manitouwadge, no motels left. Turner's is s hunting camp that might possibly fit the bill for maybe a dozen riders. Could be a bonus income for them. As for fuel it's simple. Running up in this area, pack your fuel and be prepared. It'll become habit for those who choose to explore the old D16.
  15. It's a Northern Ontario club in the appropriate section of the forum. Don't know who moved it. Don't see a problem with the move either.
  16. That's a very sad (and equally hilarious) statement ....
  17. So hard to make people understand these days ... smh ... The Polaris paper planes are normally aspirated only ... no turbo, and no 4 strokes of course ....
  18. I've been following this. That's my home town. I would be all over it if I still lived there.
  19. Yup. Just looking at my weather station... a 5 mph breeze drops the felt temperature by 5 degrees or so. Imagine a 20 mph wind overnight with 30 below...
  20. They're both new, so you can't go wrong buddy.... you've got the XCR, and what did you order for Karen?
  21. -30 windchills this morning, and now even. Calling for 30 below tonight, Without the wind. Brrr ... maybe not a record, but friggin' nippley for mid-December nonetheless ...
  22. I would Hazard a guess that they are very similar to the Doo muffs, that I have. When it gets to 20 below I put them on.
