  1. The Super 8 in Kap had a dozen or more sleds yesterday, 4 or 5 rigs in the yard. Friday night the Queens and Companion motels had some 35 sleds in the yard. Saturday there were more than 50. Yup, we've got traffic. And the trail conditions to match.
  2. -2 in the great white North. We haven't had any new snow since well before Christmas. Calling for minus single digits all weekend and the following week, hoping we get some fresh snow in there somewhere.
  3. Christmas is ALWAYS stressful, for the 2 weeks leading up to it, it is my birthday after all. The day before and day of aren't a problem (wine fixes that....) The days after are difficult too, trying to balance some family time with the urge to go sledding. Such a fine line.... Thank you btw, and same for you and your family. (This year wasn't any more or less stressful than any other, if you're referring to my comment on the previous page ... my patience wears thin sometimes... just like everyone elses' ...)
  4. There's more farming there than one would think. The Abitibi Lowlands area to the East of the lake is beautiful rolling farmland. There's a very successful (but not well known) Apple orchard on an island on the East end of the lake. I saw a report on it on the Qc version of CBC once .... very interesting. I promised myself to visit during the fall, perhaps just as a day trip or a weekend thing. We've fished and hunted on Abitibi but didn't venture too far away from our launching point, for safetys' sake. Easy to get lost on there. Sorry for the hijack.
  5. Thank you Revrnd and everyone else who sent me birthday wishes. I hope you all had a good time with family and friends. We had a good time here.
  6. Merry Christmas to everyone and Happy Birthday to Me !!! lol !!
  7. Excellent pics, love the updates !! Do I understand you were only in Kap for one night, or was it two ? Trails were great last weekend, they are getting better by the day. Enjoy the rest of your trip !!
  8. The Villa has been thoroughly renovated and expanded... accommodations are top notch by people's reports. Might be worth investigating. Fuel and food very close via the Husky restaurant.
  9. Floods is PBRiders presidents favorite place and he camps there IIRC. Ask on their Facebook page about the hours and schedule, he'll likely reply within a day.
  10. My recent open deck 102" x 14' trailer was significantly harder to pull with the salt deflector shield on, than off. I removed it for the summer hauling quads, the difference was substantial. And the shield was only 2 feet high. Imagine an 8 1/2' full height trailer. As for trucks, engines, bigger is better. Its finding the balance between fuel economy when empty, and sufficient power to haul a trailer when needed, that is difficult. Lots of varying opinions out there. I now know that a 4.6L is NOT sufficient to check both boxes.
  11. I would tend to agree with those saying the 7' v-nose trailers are easier to tow than the blunt nose 8' ... When I moved from Timmins back to Hearst I borrowed a friends' car hauler, towing with my 4.6L F150 2wd. Towing it loaded to the gills, absolutely packed solid right to the back door with absolutely every belonging we had in the house, it took more fuel returning to Timmins empty than going to Hearst loaded ... 75$ loaded, 78$ empty ... possibly due to the fact that I was pushing it a bit more empty trying to make time ... someone saw it at Driftwood truck stop and said he figured around 10-12000# if it was that full. Took it really easy coming up .... once in a while we'd hit a little bump and the suspension would come up off the bump stops and settle back down on them ... lol ... It was empty in this pic ... ..... and loaded in this one ....
  12. Shhhhh... I like surprises... I can put you up in the garage with a cot ... you'll be up every 2 hours feeding the stove though... The best ones...
  13. I don't believe that this is a bad idea. You own a sled, it's plated and insured, your plate fee goes up $100 per year, everyone pays and everyone has a trail permit included. No more automatic freeloading. Make the penalty severe enough if you're not legal and everyone will win.
  14. I noticed that as well. I would guess that it allows you to download only the maps you need instead of the entire province, saving space on your phone. I don't need any districts below 14.
  15. Almost the truth Be sure to message me when you get up here.
  16. Yes I saw that as well. This is why I was thinking that there may have been an error made somewhere. It happens.
  17. That particular patch is almost purely swamp for the first couple of km's. Look at it on Google Earth, you'll see. I would speculate that the section in question might have been inadvertently posted as Limited by error, or the contrary ... posted as Unavailable when it might have been in fact, Limited. In either case, it's not the OFSC's mandate to answer to the likes of us, as told by another member and club volunteer on here a short while ago, while discussing the adjoining piece of trail to which I brought mention in another post. Is that close enough Claire ?
  18. Do you need a Snickers or something ? BTW .... would you please remind all of us where the aforementioned piece of trail happens to be, and who owns that particular property ? Thanks for that. Don't pi$$ on my fence, I'm electric.
  19. A balmy -25 ish this morning. Calling for -2 and -3 over the weekend ... outstanding ... Saturday is signage day on D108A, Sunday, well, maybe inspect the local loops ...
  20. Probably be trashed by noon ...
  21. Last night, its warmed up slightly since ... Weather station is now in hibernation mode ...
  22. If you think that little red patch would stop me ....
  23. .... and never mind the wind chill, which there was plenty of. Breezy as hell this morning.
