  1. Think of the amortized $3,000. How long do you plan on keeping the sled. Five years is $600 per year but then you need to factor in the increased resale value of the sled when you sell it which would drive that annual cost down even further. Depending on how long you keep it for you could conceivably recover that $3,000 in additional resale value toward your next sled.
  2. From my perspective if you volunteer your information to be on the oh sh*t list you have access to the other people on the list. I would think for example that before heading out to perhaps Parry Sound I would check the list for contacts in that area and take the information with me. If I broke down I would call from the list and hope to get help
  3. Call scott and make him an offer. They move a huge number of sleds. He can't say no unless you try. We have the ZR 7000 El Tigre and so far they are great. Plenty of power for me. My wife really likes the heated seat and it's growing on me.
  4. We don't have the ZR 5000 but we do have the 2015 ZR 7000 now which is the Yamaha engine. One for me and one for my wife. Also bought from Country Corners. They have been absolutely great people to deal with. I dealt with Scott for the purchase. My old sled was a 2008 Jag Z1 with the Suzuki 4 stroke engine. I loved the throaty growl of the 4 stroke Suzuki and I would basically call it bullet proof. When we sold the Jag Z1 it had 10,000 km on it. We had the usual routine maintenance done by WildBill. Essentially oil change and filter at the end of each season. Only once did I ever have a problem with it. We were in the Parry Sound area and it just wouldn't start. I took it in to WildBill and we found the problem was Jack N Jills (now defunct Midland dealer) had put in the wrong spark plugs. That was very early on and never had a problem with the engine after that. I don't know how the more recent Suzuki engines are on fuel compared to the Yamaha engines but comparing the 2008 Jag Z1 to the 2015 ZR 7000 the ZR 7000 does a fair bit better on fuel than the Jag Z1 did.
  5. He's a newbie to sledding but will soon be a veteran
  6. So how is that couch for sleeping on
  7. I can understand a two night minimum during peak times where for example they would lose a weekend reservation for Friday and Saturday because their rooms were already reserved with Saturday night only. Mid week or when they are far from being fully occupied on that particular day a prudent business operator would bend the rule. Friday or Saturday afternoon you arrive and I have rooms available, I doubt I'm going to get swamped suddenly for two night stays. I'll take your money for the one night. Better than the room staying empty and no money
  8. Welcome to the forum... lots of people here that are in your area or not far from there. I tend to ride the area bounded approximately by Horseshoe Valley, Elmvale, Wasaga Beach, Midland, Parry Sound, Gravenhurst and Orillia and use Port Severn as my starting point.
  9. Welcome to the forum. I'm sure you can find people here to ride with. I echo your sentiment about riding solo. If I do go out solo it's on our local club trails, middle of the day and not too far off the beaten path. I also leave my route with someone at home and tell them when I expect to be back. Fortunately the trails in our area all seem to have cell phone coverage so I make sure it's fully charged when I set out. The best part about riding with someone else is if you do get stuck you have someone to laugh at you for a while and then when that is over reluctantly help you out. Then they get to tell the story of you getting stuck to all of your friends.
  10. Wow... what a great situation. 300 km of one continuous smooth trail. Bodes well for the future. It will be great for the towns and businesses along the rail line.
  11. and my boat comes out of storage tomorrow and will be in the water a week from now. What a contrast. Is your water still hard?
  12. short lived thaw will only help maintain the base.... then some more snow and you should be good until Dec 2015 for good sledding... just think of the money you will save at the garden centre that can go for sled gas
  13. It seems you have lost some snow... I can see the cab of your truck
  14. rumour has it there may be yet more snow on the way for you....
  15. At this rate you may see green grass by mid June. At the other end of the spectrum I was in Wasaga Beach today and you may as well say the snow is gone. I saw a bunch of trail stakes running through a bare field on Klondike Park Rd and a couple of people fishing one of the open water patches on the river. If it were up to me I would rather have your weather still.
  16. The snowmobile season that just won't quit... Enjoy... Too bad we have to go through spring. It would be great if we could go sledding up until April 30 and then drop the boat in the water May 1. It's that in between that is the killer.
  17. Rub it in... I'm envious... I could use a couple more weeks of riding.
  18. he has indicated elsewhere that it is currently down and being addressed
  19. email transfer from your bank account works... that's what I did
  20. sorry to dissapoint but I will be winning the sled, you can have either the ATV or the vest Wild Bill sold the 3 winning tickets last year so you need to buy from him if you plan to win.... bottom line though.... support a great cause and get a ticket any way that you can
  21. I thought I was getting a black cap but got a red one... looks great. I think the gods were in touch with my wife. She really likes red and seems to have laid claim to it. Now I may have to get another for myself and the touques looked better than I thought so I may need one of them as well.
