Recheck the link, more info there than what dealers and manufacturers would have.

My response was to the questions he asked in his post...

How many of the 43,000sleds sold in 2020 were in Ontario?

How many new sleds sold in 2021?

How many ordered in Ontario in 2022?

The regular permit buyer should clearly be informed.  It’s no wonder the rumours fly around about who gets paid to groom or free sleds for people.  Or whatever.

Snowmobiling is a big business and the revenues generated by permit sales should be clearly explained to the permit purchasers.

Those numbers would be from the manufacturers and the dealers.

Transports can’t see behind them either. Down sides yes but not behind.

I've never heard of a requirement to be able to see behind you. Like you said down the sides. I can't see behind the sled trailer, the boat, the RV or the horse trailer. Nobody ever could until those cameras became available.

I know our president has told us we can put in for mileage and or gas for our saws, ATVs/UTVs. I'm going to submit a bill for the gas I used trimming some trees back on a ride or what I used in my Ranger putting some new signs up? I can't be bothered like I said. Just my part in helping out.

Very true Bill. That being said I think the OFSC is looking @ the optics of this.

I won't elaborate but I know of (in the past) where members of the executive and/or groomers intentions were less that honourable. More or less a 'what's in it for me attitude?'

I seem to recall one situation quite a while ago where someone offered to be a groomer operator for a club. It turned out that there wasn't any trail access from his home so he would take the groomer home at the end of a run and park it in his yard until the next day. Basically he was creating a personal groomed trail from his home to the actual trail. I think those are "the old days" and not something we really see happening anymore but there is still the perceptions of permit buyers to deal with. I can't count the number of times I was doing trail patrol and people believed I was supplied with a sled and fuel to do it.

Fair enough. But if you can only make out a headlight, may be a bit embarrassing to find out 20KM later that your group had to stop, and it is another sled group behind you who had no place to pass you.

Dealer has an open house every October, you pick up your accessories, and spin the wheel for a discount, min is 15% and max is 50%. I can tell that the windshield mounted mirrors will work better for me.

    thanks

I have the OEM windshield mounted mirrors on my Cat...They work well for me. On a previous sled long ago (skidoo) I had the handlebar mirrors and didn't care for them at all. If I am checking for the rest of my group to be behind me I will either slow down / stop in a spot wide enough to let others pass. If they are my group they will do the same. If not they will pass. OR I will check the mirrors when we are in a bend and I can catch a view of the side of the sled.

Lots of places offer a cash discount I find. Use card loose that cash discount. Average is 2 percent usually. For two percent, I gladly right cheque. Even our feed company has a cash two percent discount that only applies on cheques or e transfers. Pay credit card loose that two percent and they will gladly take card. Some would get a free trip In no time with current commodity prices.

That's thanks to the fees the credit card companies charge the merchant. The sad part for the merchant is the fees all vary dependent upon the card used. Amex is the highest of the bunch. If you're a large retailer such as Canadian Tire you can negotiate lower card fees but the small guy is stuck so with them cash is king where they get the full value for their products.

    Living off the government?

We would have gladly op't out of the teachers pension plan and gone straight to an RRSP, but this request was denied.  You know when you do that it reduces your income so you pay less tax so a 28K contribution gets you over 15K back, essentially 13K.  This is not a taxpayer contribution, its actually your own.

The most egregious one is CPP. If what I and my employer put into CPP was invested on my own rather than forced to let the federal government mishandle it I would be vastly better off than the pittance I get today. People should be able to opt out of CPP as long as they can show they are contributing to a locked in RSP at the same amount. Trudeau also wants to start calling it a Federal Benefit.

Also let's not even discuss how to become an entrepreneur as we can all live off government.

Shhh. That's the Great Reset which includes Wealth Redistribution and a heavy reliance on the federal government to take your money and spend it inefficiently for you.

Actually that’s not always true. The dealer stands to make more if you finance and therefore the  cash price sometimes is more than the finance price. Trying to recoup what would have been made on financing.

negotiate the price before you disclose financing or cash

Paid by district, but like I said some is paid and a lot is volunteer

No old boys club here, we openly invite anybody to our meetings.

Have not seen a line up at the door yet, some nights hardly have enough to hold a meeting.

I would gladly give up my position and sit and watch for trails to go green, especially if accused of lining my pockets

We had an account at a local gas station for groomer fuel. At one time there were people making accusations that club members were filling their personal vehicles at the expense of the club. There have been people that believed the club supplied sleds and fuel for those doing trail patrol and were upset about that saying where do they sign up.

We stopped in at the Legion one day and grabbed a burger as always food was excellent, this past season we went to the fish shack in Dorset a couple times and it was great. My advice and I was really surprised more restaurants didn’t have a fire going outside with some music. Summerland General store did and I believe they had a great season the times we stopped in.

There are so many ways a business could adapt. I was surprised more didn't do like you said, a fire and some music makes it much more appealing.

It also seems to me the best dealers for service are the ones who aren't afraid to fill their own shelves with parts and inventory - rather than waiting until a "purchase" is made and they order from the distribution centres.

Love being able to walk into a place and here "yeah, I got that, hold on" - instead of let me order, order, order.

Back in the day, dealers had much more in their own stores.

Part of the challenge of stocking a large parts inventory is that eventually if not sold it becomes essentially worthless. You also have the cost associated with having it in stock and hoping someone buys it. When Wye Heritage Marina was sold a few years ago they had a huge $ value for in stock parts on the books. When examined as part of the due diligence a very large portion of those parts listed at full value were essentially worthless from being very old.

  12. Wild Bill at Rosseau Rd. and family go above and beyond. My first time reaching out to Bill was phenomenal. I had trailered to the Seguin to ride with friends. My sled wouldn't start. Fortunately I also had my wife's sled in the trailer and was still able to ride. That afternoon when we got back to the trailers I called Bill and asked what he thought I should check. He told me that they were about to close but since I was close he would wait for me to get to his place. I got there and he thought it might be something as simple as frozen gas line or similar. He would leave it in his heated shop overnight and check it the next morning. The next day he went in early and it still wouldn't start. He started work on it and ended up replacing the spark plugs that Jack N Jiills had put in (wrong ones) and it fired up right away. The bill was more than reasonable especially considering staying late and starting early. I got to ride my sled that day and it ran great. He's my go to sled guy.

Not to worry TD the lefty socialist snowflakes that think this would be ideal have no idea what draws the sane people to sledding. When the first electric powered airliner comes on board I doubt any of them will be on it.

Fear not... it will be solar panel powered and can stay in the air forever... unless it gets cloudy

lol, everyone will find out how much noise the track really makes.

I wouldn't get to uptight about everything being electric, the infrastructure is not in place and it won't be by 2030 either. If GTA went to all electric right now the grid would come to a grinding halt. It is a pipe dream at best. What are they gonna doo? refine crude or natural gas to get the polyethylene off it and burn the rest off on the cracker? boy, that'll fix the carbon issue, lmfao

I remember about 2005 we were looking at trying to add to our power feed to our data centre. York Mills and Don Mills area. Toronto Hydro told us it couldn't be done since the infrastructure in the area was already at capacity and there weren't any plans to upgrade the already very old components. Now imagine trying to add chargers for thousands of cars.

At least rock salt. We used to get threatened with rock salt and bacon rinds if we stole corn out of a corn field. Stealing a truck should have much worse punishment.

Shoot them dead and put a very big knife in their hand. You feared for your life.

Why not just take a wheel off of your trailer when parking for the summer? Mine gets jacked up with the frame resting on blocks, wheels removed, and axle hanging unsupported. If anyone wants it, they will have to show up with two wheels, 10 lug nuts, cable cutters, and tools to smash a couple of locks. I just might over hear them...

I have two locks on the coupler and a wheel clamp on each of the wheels. Hopefully that's enough to get them to look at someone else's.

Yes and then your insurance company pays the vast majority do they not?

And if your at fault or charged potentially you face insurance rate increases.

What would be different with no helmet laws?

OHIP covers the hospital bills... which are likely the most significant if there's a serious injury.

Canadians can be asked to provide drug testing in the USA as well if requested prior to being allowed onsite.

I have been to a couple of sites like that but since I was just there for the day it was waived. For them it was a condition of employment and employees were subject to random testing after that.

Spiderman - isn't there some sort of tiered medical benefits with auto (and other motorized) insurance. I know I am paying extra for higher levels of medical pay outs (home care) etc. to put it above a base minimal level. It is a stretch, but could be tied into a declaration to not wearing helmets / head gear. Also, wondering how the turban wearers are treated in this situation - certainly more risk = higher payments?

On the bold, was once turned down for life insurance as I was sport parachuting at the time.

The corporate medical insurance in the U.S. is far different than what we are used to. Company policy can even have mandatory drug testing. I managed a U.S. based team for a few years. The company paid part of the medical insurance the employee paid the rest. One of the things that was prevalent was lack of coverage for pre-existing conditions. One of the team was struggling financially due to uncovered prescriptions for his wife's pre-existing condition. Then they also had an opportunity to reduce their premium portion for not smoking or drinking and if they attended a one day good health seminar they also saved a significant amount. One of the team missed the seminar due to business travel and I had to intercede on his behalf to get him the discount conditional on attending the next seminar. I can see where there may be an impact on premiums or coverage based on participating in motor sports without a helmet. After all it is the US.

DO not ever ever use goo gone on a windshield.  Don't ask me or Mrs Turbo how we know.

I do it every year and I've never had any issues. Squirt on the soft cloth and rub gently with just one or two fingers using new spots on the rag frequently. I always rub from the outside edges of where the permit was toward the middle so I don't spread residue beyond where the permit was.
