  1. Geraldton to Nipigon is doable. Just follow the Natural Gas pipeline. Bring Gas! As you near the Nipigon River, you'll cross a road that may or may not be plowed, that runs toward Cameron Falls dam. That's about the only way to cross the river. When you cross the river, you'll ditch bang for a while until you get to hydro lines, that you follow most of the way to Nipigon. Most of this route will have snowmobile traffic. From there, maybe best to try and find somebody to trailer you. Sorry. My trailer contact has moved on. Good luck.
  2. Still some excellent riding to be had in Thunder Bay.
  3. I did it with the super light weight cover that came with my old early 90's yamaha. The cover and machine survived fine. Not so much my ears, from my wife giving me grief over it. I now use the power washer on the heavier canvas covers on my Polaris sleds. BP
  4. Not trying to stir stuff, but I think it also kinda says something about who the the Other parties keep picking to lead them?
  5. Thunder Bay this morning.
  6. Probably a ferry. They tend to not like ice. Freeze up and Break up are equally challenging in the far north.
  7. I think its what THEY call Kushog Lake.
  8. I'm not an expert by any means, but they wanted to go through the park, adjacent to the existing line, but the parks folks wouldn't allow it.
  9. Whole new line. They are running it adjacent to the existing line, as much as possible, except around Pukwasa Park, where its on a brand new right of way.
  10. There is a new line being constructed between Thunder Bay and Wawa called the East-West tie. As far as I understand it, we have a surplus of power in the North-west, and there's no way to get it over to the more populous regions to the east.
  11. I hear you about Purolator. They are the absolute worst. Ironically, Canada Post delivers (almost) to the door, while I have go into town to Purolator's depot to get stuff. Having said that, currently waiting a package from CanPar that was supposed to have been delivered Tuesday, but seems to have gone into a black hole in Toronto.
  12. There is a huge interest in sledding, just not riding groomed trails.
  13. It would be the mid 90’s, just off the top of my head. I was heavily involved with the Nipigon club around then. I recall making the run a couple times on my 93 Enticer. Lol.
  14. Actually, Thunder Bay was not the black hole. At one time, they boasted the largest snowmobile club membership anywhere. A township south and west of Thunder Bay(Neebing) was the black hole. Thunder Bay was very pro snowmobile until 3 or 4 crappy winters, and the local economy tanking killed the number of permit holders. The club couldn’t recover and that was the end of organized snowmobiling here. Nobody has been interested enough to try and bring it back.
  15. That is potentially doable in places, but I know at least one culvert has failed, and would be tough to get around. Most of the larger bridges have concrete barricades on them as well. CN still owns the route, and does not do regular engineering inspections of anything on that route. They consider anyone on the former track as trespassers.
  16. It would be incredibly difficult. The trail from Marathon to Terrace Bay can still probably be run, you’d want to pack a power saw. From Terrace Bay to Nipigon would be next to impossible. That trail was on and off the power line, and the off power line parts have not been ventured upon in years. If you could get to Gravel River, it’s possible to run on the lake to Red Rock. Beyond there to Thunder Bay, there’s lots of private land to get around. It would not be an easy trip. As mentioned previously, the province is basically on shut down right now, so this wouldn’t be something to try this year.
  17. If it’s anything like my 06 Switchback, you’re pretty much just removing the “bumper” by trying to lift the machine with it.
  18. Hmm. You could be correct. It’s been awhile since I was last there, and we haven’t used them for ages. I have a chum in G-town. I’ll see if I can get hold of him.
  19. There is a Golden Nugget and Silver Nugget. If I recall correctly, the Silver Nugget was the better of the two. Between Bridges tops either.
  20. In Geraldton, Between Bridges Motel is probably the best bet. A bit out of town on Hwy 11, but arguably the nicest place. Also, Silver Nugget and Crown & Anchor in town. Not much in Nakina. Long Lac has a decent place, but the name escapes me. Only gov’t run place I’m aware of if the MNRF’s Greenstone fire base, just north of Geraldton, but that’s strictly for gov’t employees on business.
  21. Insurance companies have entire buildings full of people whose only job is to figure out a way to deny your claim.
  22. The later years Polaris 340 Lite tourer might work for you. The Polaris Sport Touring is also a great sled, but a little wider and heavier than the Tundra.
  23. Welcome and congrats on the cottage purchase. For what you say you’re looking for, I highly recommend the Polaris LTX 550 fan. If you can find what the dealers around Thunder Bay call the “International Edition”, I’d pick that up. It’s got wider skis (“Pro-Float” I think they’re called), electric start, 2 up seat, and, a 144” track. Perfect for around the cottage, ice fishing, and it can be a suitable introduction to touring, if you’re so inclined. Good luck. Lots of good advise on here...
