Ya, sledding crowd is older around here, and really overall in general.

What ya ride I don’t think is a factor most think of when riding, other than perhaps a sled not looked after causing potential break down, but even new sleds leave you stranded.
Same as pace, a slower reasonable rider is not that far behind when you stop at intersections to wait for all to catch up, plus is it really about the race to get to your destination or about the ride it takes to get there, at whatever pace and enjoying that.
It seems things change more so due to weather, conditions or peoples life that changes, that cause a change in plans.
Personality conflicts might be a bigger factor for some.

I used to ride hard, all day. Now, as I enter my sixties, I have slowed it down and no longer have to wait ten minutes for the wife to catch up. Getting old sucos.

We were originally planning on a 650 Polaris for weight reasons, but that 650 is roughly 508lbs vs the Doo at 528lbs. I don’t think she’ll notice the 20lbs.
The doo is $1k more than the poo, but has a four stroke that should outlast the 650 engine no problem. I don’t see the point in 2 strokes anymore due to having to rebuild them eventually.
I’m not the kind of guy that trades up every 2nd or 3rd year, I like to keep them for a long time.
My viper has 15,000kms on it and doesn’t owe me anything. I’ll likely get another 15km out of it before I get rid of it. I’m hoping for the same experience with another 4 stroke.
I love the viper, but can’t justify spending $22k+++ for the wife.
Honestly, I’d just get the 900 if I knew for certain I wasn’t going to ride it!

Leftover 2024 should be under 18k.

yes, only when moving and changes in pitch with speed. Guess it could be any number of things.. I'll get it up on the stand and start snooping around..lol

No doubt bearing spinning on shaft. They all do it. Poor design on those sleds. There are fixes as mentioned. If you are handy this is a home repair.

There is no doubt that "leftover pricing" or "no snow season" pricing is not just returning, but is already here. Dealerships are swamped with unsold 2024 (and some '23s) inventory and Polaris, for one, has lots of '22s still to move. The opportunity to pick up a non-current sled at a great price is about to be like we haven't seen in a more that a decade. One has to be really dedicated to the "new and improved" models to spring order a 2025 model. The rational approach is to spend as little as you can get away with on this disappearing sport, and spend your money on something that will give you more bang for your buck. The shorter the sledding season, the longer the boating, ATVing and motorcycling season. Notice I didn't advocate for getting out of sledding, but rather spending less so that you aren't so devastated when a season like this one hits. We will have snow again, but we aren't going back to what most of us remember as "winter". Be happy, whatever your spending strategy!

2007 was as bad as this year....then 2008 was one of the best ever. Sledding ain't dead yet.

    Easier maintaince you think?

Cats chaincase is a weak link, hoping this system is better. I have not heard of issues yet with the 600 but not many out there and surely not many miles. 858 is actually lighter than the 600. Also, since moving back south only put about 1500kms on the sled, the 4 stroke was a much better choice when running 5 to 6 k per season. Yet to see the price, and this season being a bust, the economy on a downward trend, leftover pricing may return so that is also a factor that may have undue influence on my decision. God, now you got me thinking........

Why change now? Lightness is worth it?

Like the belt replacing the chain, like the catalyst chasis. No four stroke in the catalyst.

Fubar! Anyone who attempts such a thing is a scum bag for dragging liability into the club. Hopefully the OFSC has enough legal front end to absolve themselves from any such stupidity. If you cant drive and control your vehicle? Its not the road or trails providers fault. Weasels who try and leverage liability like that are the kind of scum who are ruining the Canadian way of life.

Problem is, the lawyers cost huge money to defend, so often a settlement is offered. Nobody should be allowed to sue a club. It is an off road activity with sleds now breaking 200hp. Of course you can die or be severely injured. Risk should be placed 100% where it belongs, on us, the riders. Don't like risk, get under the bed, wrap yourself up in bubble wrap and hide until god calls you home when you finally die of boredom.

You can tell it’s a professional driver by the hood of the truck, sledded is lucky.

You should see how the a%%hats in long nose petes drive on 17. It aint the truck, its the driver. Justins imports are now doing over dimensional loads...let me tell you, its scary. They run the load onto oncoming, and illegally run after dark.

When it’s time to get rid of the old and move onto the “new”, you are right, shouldn’t worry or stress about price too much.
My wife always comments on when I sell things and my willingness to let things go for less….when I’m ready to let things go, I actually want them gone in a reasonable time for a reasonable price.

    Same here. Sell fast.

Yep, they have and spend it like it's their last day on earth. Cheap hotels and dining are not on the menu. Ridea day and move on for the most part. A close friend went with them a couple years back for 2 weeks.....said never again. Keep in mind, 5-10 is for the season.

I used to rent cottages for weekend riding. For the wife and I it easily cost 500-800 dollars and thats not bad. I just finished up job at a cottage thats $2500 for the week winter rates.

In a vrbo right now 3k for a week. Not even riding. I am on the trail though. 11I

I can tell you the one thing I would like to see change.

I would move to have Snowmobile insurance not fall under the OAP.........

I would like to see where it has it's own insurance - which would be tailored to off-road use only. Sleds are not cars, do not operate under the conditions in any way shape or form like cars - and should not be "lumped" in as such.

Boats aren't - so why are sleds?

No standard 1st party injury benefits - unless purchased by the user i.e.- opt in - opt out ( choose you risk level )

No tort actions permitted for any use/operation of a sled ( Quebec with vehicles..... ) while riding on a prescribed OFSC trail - legislated - statue barred.

These steps would save snowmobiling in numerous ways.

Unfortunately - it won't happen - because sledding is small potatoes in the bigger picture to those who don't care about it.

Hmmmmm, I work all over the USA and am currently in Illinois where electricity costs $0.12-0.14 cents per kilowatt so about the same or more than Ontario!

The taxpayer is funding cost reductions through the Ontario government. We are not seeing the true cost of power on our monthly bills. This was done to hide the reality of what our power generation has become and to quell the outrage of the voters. We are all paying more, bit with borrowed money.

Number of ads seems to be growing.  Interesting to see the spread in pricing.  Still some people that think covid pricing is still a thing.  I think were headed back towards normal finally.

That’s a pretty young truck still. If you don’t krown them wiring will go I find. Then you have big issues sometimes. Every since I been using known no more issues with wiring or trailer connections either 😎

My bil has a 2018, mine is a 2021, I have used krown since new. Most likely keep it till it falls apart, as I do with most of my vehicles.

E does burns at a lower temperature then regular gasoline. It also burns faster and more complete then regular petro. Even if it burns cleaner might take 5 percent more to get sane mileage as regular petro? So is evironment really benefiting. I use to buy premium for no e and better mileage. Now that’s non existent with e in it 🤣

Ethanol is a net loss energy. It consumes more energy to produce than it provides. It is retarded.

And horrible for the great lakes. I popped 35 rivets in my 18ft. aluminum hull bowrider and the boat filled with water(almost sank).

The main support beam broke (front and center of the hull). Banging those Lake Erie waves was just too much for the boat.

There are some very very nice and solid all welded aluminum hulls for big water. King Fisher, Henley, and many others. In BC you see many on the big water. A .01 riveted aluminum is the most basic small lake fishing hull, they used to be even thinner. Lund a premium priced brand still uses rivets. Pass.

Time to order an electric 😆
You are like me don’t drive that pickup every day since you are in big truck half the time I assume.

Ya, I drive it about 18k per year. My issue is I like to run it in sports mode instead of eco. I do not really care about fuel economy. In regards to trail pass cost, ride the sled 250kms at 16l per 100 40 liters of fuel at 1.80 is 72 bucks in fuel per day, add in a 30 dollar lunch and you are at 100 bucks to ride per day, ride 10 days and that makes the pass 25% of the cost to ride, never mind travel maintenance and depreciation on the sled plus loss of capital gain off the money spent on the trailer and sled. most likley the total cost of the permit is less than 8% of the total cost to sled. in the big picture, 500 bucks for an ofsc pass would be just fine.
