  1. I think you need to slow down on your reading.
  2. "Many Moons Ago" Did that motor actually start fwd and then change direction? Or just able to start backwards somehow? THAT is likely the reason Doo had a patent?
  3. Yeah, I think you are right - that they did trade features. That seems to ring a bell. "Always being able to" and being able to efficiently - and on cue is two different things. You need a secondary timing mark to make it work well.
  4. Kept the radial thrust (?) going the direction they wanted? Did they reverse cut all the gears in the tranny and rear axle then too? Or maybe just use a center section made for a 4wd front axle?
  5. I think you're right. It does seem like the trippples (reed induction) had RER in the late 90's. You never want to try to finesse the recoil rope in while in electronic reverse! That's always a bad day!
  6. Both of my 2002 800's have it, and I'm pretty sure that it was out the previous season, as I snowchecked mine. Mechanically - it is just one more pick-up in the mag end of the case to pick up crank timing. The 'putor does the rest.
  7. Well, the Zx came out in '99 like I said - with the 600 being the first ser3 motor release, with the 700 in 2000, and the 800 as a 2000.5 I think. RER was available in 2001 at least, but that may have been the first year - as has been mentioned, they likely held that feature to release a cpl years after the new chassis buzz. ??? I have a '99 Zx Summit 600, with roundslides, and I'm pretty sure that it has DPM, but no RER.
  8. If this is true, then how come the others had to licence "RER" from Bombi to use it?
  9. Actually - this subject has come up in recent history on a machine shop site, and running a motor bass akwards roots at least back to the 40's in 4 stroke submarines. They had to stop the motor and switch to a second set of overhead valvetrain, and restart. These would have been diesel, so not spark editing, but they likely did edit the pump timing a bit? I don't know if/where it was ever used on a 2 stroke before tho, but that is the obvious reason for the end of rotary valving on Doo's.
  10. As I understand how it werks, it's basically the same tech as your hybrid car as per starting, but the car uses a battery. Bombi brings many techs to skidoo's. Seldom if ever is it "new" tech, just new to skidoos. One good example was the HAC system - new on the '96 Summit I believe. This eventually turned into the DPM system by the '99 Zx Summit 600, if not before. I don't know if it was available on the '99 670 Summit - still in the old chassis or not? May be more of a Gen 3 motor thing? This was 1910's tech from early airplanes that had a manual adjustment to lean out the carb(s) at higher altitude. Then there was the greased main bearings, which many of us consider a fail, and I believe that the new 850 motor does NOT use grease anymore? I drilled my cases and cut the seal out of both of ours years ago - after the second time I tied up a crank! Not all new ideas that look good on paper work out as well in the field, but no-one will know until you try. Gotta give'm that! .
  11. Well, one reason is b/c they have a hard time getting it to work. Seems that it is mostly bad caps, but ??? Lots of units that don't work well, if at all out there.
  12. Any coon hunter supply outfit should be able to hook you up with such very easilly. When younger I just used a 6V (12V?) brick type battery hung on my belt for night time pest hunting, but I'm sure that 40 years has made marked improvements on that. Be aware tho - that when a pigeon comes down hurt, it is going to try to go towards the only light in the joint, so that can add some excitement sometimes too....
  13. I knew a fella that used that approach for crabs.
  14. Not sure that I have ever used a "hand sanitizer" in my life. With that said - I'm also not typically around too many people daily either. However - I doo typically try to wear a pr of gloves when fueling the truck - as I hate the smell of gas - and worse - diesel on my paws afterwards. I find that rest is the best prevention.
  15. Was actually ref the original post - as I understood it that the reason that he was wearing the vest to begin with was for the benefit of those behind him. Point of the thread was that it had frontal benefits that Trumped the intended use.
  16. As far as being seen by the riders behind you doo to snowdust (presumably the issue?) we on occassion use Lead Dog lights when breaking trail after dark, or even if just still out playing off-trail after dark. They are great for being able to see the terrain - even when your headlight is covered in snow, but per this conversation - it has been found to be of just as much help for the second guy to be able to keep tabs on the point man as there is no way that you are going to see a tail light in that environment. The back of the light glows red anyhow, but it does have a brake light that you can hook up if you want too. Not thinking that y'all are gunna run out and buy a Lead Dog light - as it would look goofy, and be just one more chord tethered to the machine, but it seems that I have seen at least one helmet that may have had such rear light built into it? I don't know if it was still tethered, or wireless? (or even existed beyond my dreams for sure?) I see that they are now offering an LED version, and you could just run a batt pack for it like coon hunting, and not have to deal with the tether. https://helmetlight.com/
  17. Ah. Same as the end of the Whitman Dam Rd @ Domtar then, except that is a BIG corner that you're not going to miss.
  18. So - you parked at the apex of a corner just to prove a point?
  19. Yeah, we parked down there. We usually run the hydro, but the snow was DEEP! My boy was having troubles with stucks on his 144, so we ended up heading back out to the trail before our gas got too low to make the haul and it got too late. He needed to dump his jerry in @ Pee Wee Lake tho. I think that he will be on my old 163 next year.
  20. Oh - fer sure! Way too many cases of the new truck, trailer, and 4 sleds all comes up missing in one fell swoop! (I was just explaining this to my boy the other day) that Hornepayne used to have a cable out back to lock your sled to overnight - that's why I have a padlock in my kit. Don't think I have ever actually used it tho. Too often one would be found - usually out of gas - somewhere out on the res. I guess there's a res close by....
  21. Compare to Canada? Specifically Revelstoke, Golden, Hearst, Hornepayne, etc....
  22. Talked with a few fella's from Sudbury area this last weekend @ Halfway, and even then they said that things were falling apart that direction. (before the recent warm-up) I'd expect to head up to the Northern Corridor.

    Tether Cords

My chum had some issue once a while back - I don't recall what ... prolly an upside down sled with runaway motor? He said online that he would be using his now after that incident. Never seen him use it yet. I don't use mine. (don't wear tek-vest either, so ...) BUT - I have heard mention many times in recent years that many new sleds don't even have a tether as std equipment. I only run Doo, and really don't pay attention to what others have all that much, so it seems odd to me - when 40 years ago it seemed to be a std item. ???
  24. OK, so what happened to ZRT Kat and crew? Maybe the Earth is flat after all, and they fell off when at the edge of Gaspie?
  25. Started at the bottom of the D201F and rode up to Hafway on Friday. Up to the north warm-up shack @ Crossover Rd (that no-one knows aboot anymore) and back on Sat. And then back to the truck on Sunday. Made it home by 12:30 AM new time! Pic 1 - Our playground Pic 2 - Little finches (?) on my sled. Thought that it was cute 'till I found that one of them Schidt on my helmet. (!!!) Pic 3 - Our playground - low hanging warrs. Pic 4 - Never seen another track on this hill. Pic 5 - Never seen this big'a waste flame @ Algoma Steel before. We could see the skyline several miles from the south.
