I guess I dont understand what the photo was representing then. I thought you posted it to show, no ice on the lake in TBay. If I have misjudged the pic, and intent, I apologize. When I say, the locals were fishing, and I could have fished... I mean these guys were riding atvs across frozen swamps, lakes, rivers, to get to the fishing areas (Look up Oba lake, Esnagi, they are huge bodies of water). We have ice inland, just not enough snow, to utilize the sleds yet. Ski

Understand that is Lake Superior Harbor in TBay. That might not be totally indicative of what ice conditions are in the region. For instance... Wawa lake is open but, many of the remote tourism lakes, are frozen, in the area. I could have fished on the Magpie this past week. Many locals were fishing Oba, and Esnagi lakes, this week. It has been warmer, and less snow no doubt. None of the Superior Bays, or Superior itself, was frozen, on our drive home down hwy 17, Wawa to the Sault, today. Even the St Mary's is open, and the locks were free of ice, with many freighters waiting for the locks, to go up, and down from the big lake. Ski
  3. Weather is just that... Weather. it is cyclitic, nothing more. There was an ice age (if you hadnt heard), there were no real huge populations of people, and definitely no carbon emitting internal combustion motors, coal fired electric plants, etc... And that ice receded. It is cyclitic, nothing more, nothing less. @Ox, I can remember as a kid (57 now) of a lot of warm wet Thanksgivings, and a few green Christmas' 70's, 80's, 90's, etc... One Christmas it was 65 degrees (1982). It is just a weather cycle. First they told us all the oil would run out. then, a new ice age was coming. Then, the ozone layer was going to be gone and we would all fry. Then, the global warming, now explained as climate change, when they cant cite warm temps. It's all just a control tactic. It's just weather cycles. Ski
  4. Had a visitor on the river ice, today. Mr. Otter, played on the ice, for quite awhile. Ski
  5. Well, the rain, ice, fog event is over, for now. Colder and dryer for the next foreseeable days. Pretty, bluebird type start to our day. There is a tiny bit of snow in the ditches shaded bush but, we are back to zero. Similar start to 2015, our first year with the house. Similar start as last year, received snow, close to grooming, riding, lost it all, rinse, repeat. We are at the house now, internet, and all cams reset. Enjoy your friends, and loved ones. Ski
  6. At the ski hill. note how small the tank is, plan your stop accordingly, guessing on the weekends it could run dry. Also, this really wont help the searchmont to Wawa/Chapleau fuel issue, as everyone arrived/left from Searchmont, fueled anyway. It still will be 150 miles (not km's) to Chapleau, and 170 miles (again... not km's) to Wawa. I am not knocking it, because it will help the local, loopers around the Sault, Searchmont, Goulais, Heyden, Black Creek/Aubrey falls, and Echo Bay, Elliot Lake area riders But, it really will have no effect on the touring riders between the Sault, Chapleau, and Wawa. It is a start though. Ski
  7. Santa wasn't nice to us, this Christmas. 😵‍💫😪😭Ski
  8. I did however see there is now premium fuel in Searchmont. although that will help with the situation, for looping around the Sault area. It will still be approx 160 miles to wawa via trail, and 140-150 to Chapleau. But, still good news. Ski
  9. From December 17th. Second story going up, with any luck, next year we will have another lodging/Stop option. Ski
  10. No blame here buddy. The only real blame we need to look into is the season's (all four) are moving later and later... Maybe the old "Leap Year Day" isnt enough to reset the calendars to where we should be. When you look at it, our winters start later and later, and our spring doesnt come as early, with cold temps lasting longer into the last spring, early summer. Our summer is later starting, later finishing. our fall is later and longer, and then we are back to a late start of winter. Maybe the scientists, should look into that phenomenon, v.s putting everything on global warming. I do love their responses though... If we get a lot of hot, they are up in arms, rattling their sabres. When we get a weird cold snap, or early or late, or long cold snap... Oh, it's just cyclitic weather. Yeah, right... Ski
  11. If you look at the Dub house cam thread from last season, you can see the end of Jan, first of feb was where they finally had decent snow and had just started to groom everything. We never went up the whole month of January. Which was a first for us. Ski
  12. Well, we didnt lose it all but, it was close. Raining today but, temps should dip below freezing in a few hours, and a small amount of snow is forecast. Unfortunately this cycle repeats, starting Friday. Like I said before in this thread... I am afraid this cycle will repeat a few times this season. Sorry I don't have better news, for us sledheads. Ski
  13. Super El Nino is forecasted. I used to get all excited to see the calendar change to November and then December knowing we would be riding at any minute. Only to wear out carbides, sliders, and wreck sleds riding sand, dirt, mud, and worse, in December, and early January. Now, I just wait, it will come. Last year, our first ride wasnt until Valentine's day weekend, and we still rode all the way into mid April. Out west in the mountains, we dont even think about riding until the snow depth reaches 40". Stop watching the farmers almanac telling you it is going to be a brutal winter, and getting you all amped up in September. Get a hobby, get the sleds prepped, enjoy the free time, and not burning your vacation days in December, when the conditions are terrible, and then not having any time left in march, when the conditions are awesome. You just have to change your thinking... The snow will come. Ski
  14. Just paid 4.49 per us gallon for it today. 1.64/litre really isnt too bad. (I cant believe I typed that). should be a lot cheaper for all of us. there should be no road tax etc... on it. Ski
  15. We need the "boner maker" Nothing makes a Northern Ontario snowmobiler sport wood faster, than hearing two words... Colorado Low. LOL! It will happen, a few times this season. bet on it. Ski
  16. The Soo is calling for 5 days, including 3 nights of above freezing temps, starting today, for the next 7 days. gonna put the hurt on the snow, and really saturate the top of the earth there. Isnt starting out great... I'm going hunting, screw it. Ski
  17. Pretty, bluebird day, at the house. Figured I would give you guys a pic of the good, before the next 3, 4 day warm spell. Ski
  18. We have the "super el nino" to thank for that. Ski
  19. Back to winter... Looking at the forecast, seems this will be a reoccurring theme, for a while. At least it looks "better" now. Ski
  20. I was wondering if the trail crossed the river in multiple areas. Ski
