  1. Unfortunately, Post 392 was sold last year and is permanently closed. It was a great place to stay. Great report. Thanks
  2. We staged at the Fairmont a couple of years ago. This is almost next door to the Ambassador mentioned by Revrnd and the trail comes into the parking lot. The caveat to these motels is that there is a significant amount of road running to get to these locations. When there is good snow, this is not a problem, however, late season or after a thaw event, it may be problematic. Dan Senior is local there and AC+YA often launches through the Sault. AC+YA usually launches a few miles north from Searchmont, I believe. Good luck with your trip.
  3. X2. I have always liked Rocky's. The only downside is that the land trail into there is always beat to crap and ungroomed. I have ridden in the Sudbury area for many years, but the last time was a couple of years ago, and the trails into the hotels in Sudbury (CG and |Moonlight) were not touched for about 20 km in either direction and had not seen a groomer in over a week (according to the STP Spot site). As an outsider, it almost seems that STP does not want tourists
  4. IIRC, the old Three Bears was torn down a few years ago, so this would have been a full rebuild. Best of luck to them.
  5. Your wet foot will be mighty cold by the time you get to James Bay. Seriously, though, that would be a great adventure.
  6. Tricky. Good post. I am not sure what you mean about being censored. If you are offering helpful advice, without advocating trespassing on private land or other irresponsible behaviour, I cannot see you being censored on here. As for the washout crossing, I, for one, would also be hesitant to cross open water, especially when it would be a long ride to some place to get warm and dry again. Than you for the information for the bypass.
  7. Rejoice in a scene like this! Or see Wenailem hamming it up at the 2nd OC Ride for Kelly Or Moosifer on a leash Great times with great friends and their families!
  8. Happy New Year to everyone.
  9. Happy Birthday Denis and Greg. Have a great day.
  10. What I think Yukon is referring to is the data to extrapolate the number of sleds that would / could use the trails. This number would exclude the people who 'never' ride an OFSC trail. It will get us closer, but I still believe there is a large number who do not buy a permit but still use the trails, especially in Northern Ontario, because of the lack of enforcement and repercussions.
  11. First off, the title of this thread strikes me as an oxymoron. That was my experience with my diesel. I simply didn't use it enough to make up for the high maintenance costs.
  12. I disagree entirely! Even with the extended mirrors on my old truck (3500 with Dumbo ears mirrors) I could not see anything behind me unless I was on a curve. After towing a fellow member's Triton PR 147 on a trip, I was convinced. The Triton, loaded with 3 sleds, towed easier and felt lighter than my double clamshell. I was convinced that a 7 foot wide trailer was the way to go. I certainly would not go back to an 8 foot wide trailer again.
  13. Looks like trespassing to me. We almost lost all Hydro ROW permissions a few years ago because of people not staying on the trail. The permission is ONLY for the groomed trail, not the whole ROW. JMO.
  14. Nice! Congrats on the new sled.
  15. Sounds like we may just miss you. We are there on the 1st,iirc
  16. Also, Queen's is next door.
  17. I figured that it was snowing so hard, it was all white
  18. STAY AWAY FROM THE NO VENTURE INN!!!!! (North Adventure Inn) Westway is great, Thriftlodge good if Westway is booked.
  19. I believe so. IrREVerent has us booked there early February for a RAP tour.
  20. I have been involved for about 15 yrs, the last 13 as secretary / treasurer.
