  1. The speedo on the Yamaha is a electronic pickup at the end of the shaft. If the bearing starts to fail, the pickup gets intermittent and then fails as well. This did not happen on mine, hence my suspicion that it is the chaincase side that is the issue.
  2. Only around 8800. Not too sure. It is in at the ex-dealer's now but it is a long weekend so no report until Tuesday at the earliest. I am a little worried that there may be extraneous damage to the chaincase housing and other parts. The tech at Blue Beacon is really good and thorough, so I am confident it will be done right. So much for my plans to ride this week, though. The track was swapped early last year with only 747 on the clock. I did not want the studded track that was on it and opted for a pre-studded track instead. I assume that the bearings would have been in good shape at that point, so I have no idea why the premature failure. I am not comfortable with opening the chaincase, so it is in at a shop. Maybe it is time to get familiar with the inner workings and do it myself. I did see how easy it is to replace the clutch side jackshaft bearing, as long as the jackshaft bearing s it is not seized to the shaft. This summer, I will be investigating removing these bearings on the other two machines to make sure they are not seized to the shaft. Incidentally, the shop it is in now, always serviced the jackshaft bearing and speedo bearing as mentioned above by regreasing. Never had an issue before and I am really surprised to have one at such low mileage.
  3. After having my sled in at the Yamaha dealership in Petawawa for a vibration and squeal that I thought was jackshaft bearings on Wednesday, they changed both the clutch side bearing and the chaincase bearing, but the squeal and vibration was still there. Riding to Barry's Bay, the problems got worse. It is apparent that the problem is the chaincase side driveshaft bearing. My RAP is over and a big thank you to OF7 for coming to my rescue.
  4. I guess you now know the answer Great seeing you and your group.
  5. Great report, Nunz. Started a 5 day RAP Tour in Huntsville at irREVerent's with irREVerent and a friend from New York. Day 1 took us to Dinner Bell in Bonfield. Trails varied between 5 and 8 on a scale of 10. The fresh snow was a nice touch and a lifesaver on the looong road running stretches. Off to Deep River tomorrow where we'll spend an extra day in the Missing Link and NRSA area.
  6. Probably because you sent the tracks in for them.
  7. The lookout is close to Mattawa but is very easy to miss. From my flawed memory, if you drop down to a level swampy area, you have just passed it. (Helpful, right ) As you are riding the higher part of the trail through a wooded section, there is a small wider area off to the right. You need to walk a bit further off the trail to actually see the view.
  8. PLC, we are staying at the BonAir in Timmins. While Revrnd is heading back to Cochrane, the rest of us are heading to Gowganda Lake and then back to Cochrane. That would be great, Ski. I have your cell # and will call you when we get in.
  9. I bears mentioning that both the vector and apex have smaller tanks (9.14 US Gal, 34.6l) as opposed to the 40l tanks on the viper and doo.
  10. When we ran it in '17, we started in the Sault, got fuel in Goulais River, and rode through fairly deep snow to halfway. The doo 1200 and Viper made it with fuel to spare. My vector made it with .3 L remaining. The only sled that ran out was the Apex, and he was bout a klick short.
  11. From the Sault, gas is at Goulais River, about 30 m out of town, and then at Halfway Haven, a further 180 Km. Trails aren't as fast as northern corridor, but they aren't Muskoka winding either. Hope this helps.
  12. It is kind of late to be planning a trip, IMO. While it might be possible, the effort into planning and booking a trip would be better spent planning a little earlier. However, if you are looking at a destination to do day loops from, you might be OK. I would suggest that you get a definite answer on cancellation policy. Good luck.
  13. Thought that might get a reaction from you
  14. I agree with TD. While Papa Franco's is good, I much prefer either Moonbeam Clubhouse or Della Pieta for lunch. Also, taking L123 and exploring some of the loops around Moonbeam is much nicer than the A trail across. We are starting a trip similar to yours, but we are running the first day through almost all of the Moonbeam trails and ending the day in Kap. Still well over 200 Km for the day. The next day, we are riding to Hearst, but including some of the loops to the north of town to stretch that day out a bit. Then we continur on the Dubrueilville and beyond.

  19. You indeed missed out on a great experience. We stayed there the last year it was in operation.
  20. Lindsay ia a black hole to sledding. There is no way across and the town is not interested in changing that.
