  1. whoaaa. I’m just a working grunt. Make my living with a shovel and a wheel barrow. And I got a woman in Florida and a child in my basement I’m supporting…lol The sled is sexy. No doubt. I looked at the specs and I’m a bit disappointed that this thing has a 33.6 litre fuel tank. Really? That has to put fuel range well under 200 kms. It needs a new gauge package and track options. Where are the smart shocks? Even with the disappointments, it’s still the best looking sled on snow, just like the red/white and Blue/white editions. I seen an ad where a dealer was offering these for $24500. That helps. I haven’t made the call to my dealer for a price quote. But in the end I think I’m going back to Doo and probably lightly used. I passed on a ‘22 Renegade X 900 R last week at $15500. 4800 kms was too high for my next ride. Another thought thrown in to the mix. My buddy who’s been riding my back up sleds for 12 years since getting out of the sport called today to say that ride yesterday has convinced him to get back in. He’s disgusted with the prices but he’s shopping…..lol He’s talking trips next winter since I won’t be working and neither will he. Could means big miles.

  2. Well fat lady sung for us. left 8:30 am Timmins - back at truck in new liskeard 3:45 , 291km Total trip 1541 km from Tuesday 11am. had some challenges finding trails this am out of timmins with the 10-15cm fresh snow on ground . Broke trail for first 60 km or so. The outdated 7S map did help alot though. Rained from elgenhert south . Great season for us - looking forward to Quebec next year as son will be 16 and able to ride legally .

  3. Exactly. We rode 5 days this year. I would happily pay 300 for that. Skiing is well over 100 per day per person. Fuel in truck to get to our destination was same cost as 2 permits, 1 trip, air bnb was 5 permits, food and beverages, 5 permits.

  4. Good to see the bugs were worked out! For me and IMO, the extra power & CC that the 998 has does not offset the pluses the Doo has over it. Only place the 998 has the advantage is lakes, long straight trail runs (but you have to be crazy to stretch its legs there) and bragging rights for more power, if that is your thing......of course the options for bigger tunes too.

  5. I had some issues with the Mach Z last year but the dealer upgrades straightened them out, can't even imagine what a Yamacat would be like for power. Let the son give it a run to see what it would do, this is what 'Dreamometer' says

  6. I agree the tank is small and keeps you on edge, Most I got was 226km running at a good pace from NL quality inn to Matheson where the sled died at the pumps. Would have to disagree on your last sentence.. haha..

  7. The 998 is truly a thing of beauty, but like you said, you kinda have to be crazy to stretch it’s legs. I know when I have my viper maxed out (which is rare) across a lake at 150-160km/hr, that’s plenty fast for me lol. I have no desire to go faster! That’s just me though. I can only imagine WOT on a turbo 998. I tried one years ago for a very short distance and the power was incredible, it felt so good, but I certainly don’t need or want it. And to think some guys are tuning them to 300+Hp for the trail blows my mind. It’s partly a status thing…or just money to burn.

  8. That was my buddys sled for sale in Stratford. It was a nice sled with another year of warranty still on it. He sold it for $14500.

  9. Go to mattawa and ride it’s usually much better. I stay at golf and ski and no pavement that way. If river crossing is still open easy to get to trails above mattawa and avoid D.

  10. Nice easy day today - nothing like feeding the birds! left La Grand Travel Lodge and heading to Timmys for breakfast - as we weren’t going to eat again until Ellie’s in Smooth Rock. left 9am. Tons of ice on ice road - they almost need another digit! dropped the 4 oil jugs of fuel in at warm up shack 86 km in. Trails hadn’t been groomed for a while - but mint. Soft and a little bumps in corners. Made it to dam 11:28am, 165 km. NO water flowing at all! Made it to smooth rock after playing on hydroline for a bunch - son getting good at wheelies! guess what kind of gas they had left ? NOT premium ….. emptied out linq into the 850 and put her on ethanol mode. great lunch at Ellies. We will stop there every chance we will get! Think we have tried every sandwich on their menu - and all great! C trail was great heading south. timmins is HURTING for snow anywhere near a roadway. After filling up gas , checked into Travellodge (east side Mario’s next door). Don’t have to clean skids tonight ! in at 4:41pm at 363 km for the day. we will see what weather brings us tomorrow !!!!!

  11. It's the same sled Yamaha has had for the last 5 plus years with gold paint. I must be missing something here??

  12. When a permit to ride trails on a provincial level cost less than my son's hockey stick - anyone complaining about the cost seriously needs to take a step back and understand the value they are getting for that permit and realize what an idiot they are being questioning it. It's insane really.

  13. After paying the $400 for a full season Quebec permit and seeing what that gets you, I am struggling to see any reason to buy an OFSC permit next season. The $400 is actually a pretty good value when you see how well the trails are signed and groomed. I think that the OFSC needs to have a serious discussion on shutting down some southern clubs. Clubs like Tillsonburg, Strathroy, Forest etc.... should not exist if they have averaged 3-4 days of open trail per season in the last 10 years. I live in Mitchell and rode 2 days locally in 2011 and maybe 2 days in 2018 if I go through my photo albums.

  14. Spent more time off the ofsc trails this year as my girls are getting older and riding their own sleds. 7 and 10 years old on Polaris Evo's. We've been able to get some decent day rides on private trails & crown land.

  15. Thanks for the info Steve. We were up there family day weekend last month, we did shinning tree then on mint trails. We didn’t do the Wolf mountain loop, so that's on our bucket list for this go. Riding with some of the STP boys this time again, so have some good local knowledge. cheers!

  16. A good dialed in 900 will do 163 km/hr wide open. 137” track, no turbo. Did a run last week and that’s what I got.

  17. Not sure yet, I really would like to get the wife another sled, but I’m thinking we won’t be spring checking. We’ll keep our eyes peeled for some deals heading into the Fall this year instead, but she might be riding 2up again next season. When we do order, it will be a Polaris forsure though.

  18. There is a significant snow event happening north of there today and tomorrow. In Timmins they are calling for up to 50 cm. ( 20") so trails to the north should be good for a while yet. You might want to consider driving a couple of hours further north to stage.

  19. On the gas tank thing, did they change the size in the last few years? My brother installed a PB80 clutch this past year/summer, not sure if it was that or perhaps something else, but his gas mileage improved quite a bit - last year I was putting in less consistently, this year he was by a few litres, he was getting best fuel consumption in the group, with a tune. Over 200KM was not an issue for sure......he likely could have made the run between gas stops coming down from Chiboug with out carrying fuel, but we all carried and used it.

  20. WHERE YOU CAN RIDE YOUR ATV/SXS IN WINTER While KATVA trails are closed from December 1st to May 1st each year your KATVA membership allows you access to the following trails in winter: Lake of Bays ATV Club Quad Niagara If you have questions about any of these riding areas contact the appropriate club or speak to a KATVA board member.

  21. I haven’t tried a 900 doo so can’t compare the 2, but I know forsure my viper has plenty of low to midrange grunt, it takes a while to get to top end speeds. I’m sure they’re close though

  22. Yes, but.....It might work on a few buyers, but most want more than BNG for that price. To each his own.

  24. Yup. I am sure the ice crossing will still be open on A112. And Mike is always conservative when playing the 'yellow' card for Mattawa trails. Their yellow often equal NB and ML 'green'. I have been on my way to Golf and Ski, when it is lightly raining in Mattawa but snowing at Golf and Ski. If you can get in there, that is the best sledding south of 17. Head east and ride the Missing Link 197 and 195m and the North Renfrew 130 series trails. That can be 1 or 2 days of riding. another day can be A112, BF 201 Talon Lake to A and back. If you can't get in at Golf and Ski, they can likely suggest other accommodations. Good point PLC. I have found that road section to survive better than similar road trails in the spring because the township ploughs seem to leave a little snow for sleds. Maybe I have just been lucky.

  25. Exactly, when the guy in the video has nothing good to say except for how “dialed” the gold paint looks on the spindle….🤷🏼‍♂️ viper is also the same as the past few years…. $3k more (basically gouging their clients) over last years price for a new sticker package. I love my Yamaha’s and now on my 3rd viper in the cat chassis, but my money will be going elsewhere when the time comes for new sleds. I realize prices are crazy on everything right now, but the doo & poo are at least being fair with their price increases. That’s just what I’ve noticed. 650 Indy SP is $500 more than last year…exact same sled. Doo & Poo have gone up around $500-$1000 over last years pricing. Yamaha is gouging, and I don’t like it.

  26. Took six days, in which time a new phone was purchased and activated, but there has been a development in the 'missing' phone case. Seems there has been a senior's moment involved. Last week was my buddy's first ride on his new-to-him Skidoo which came with a different Linq tail bag than he had on his previous sled. Seems this new bag has a small zipped compartment on the underside of the lid. That is where he found his phone today, hidden by a spare balaclava. And my wife thinks I am bad when I 'lose' a pair of drug-store reading glasses for a day or two.

  27. Well made it back to the Chateau Travel lodge . 563.8km for the day - Hearst and back. Little under 12 hrs round trip. Oil light on the little 650 , which ran 1-2l more than the 850 every fill up. was first out on the trails it seems at 8am and minus 18. Didn’t see anyone till Kap. Was hard , smooth fast trails this am. even with some playing in the powder at smooth rock - we made it to kap for gas at 10:17am and 154.8km. had a nice long stop at Tims in kap for late breakfast and chatting to dealer on new sled deal next year. Finally on the trail 11:30 ish. made it to Hearst from south end - great trails mostly. Some more snow but still not lots. In town really minimal snow like kap. gas stop @286km and 1:44pm - time to turn around! made a little trail side snack of Mr noodles - takes a lot longer to melt snow and then boil it btw! met a mother and daughter on trail (little girl went wrong direction and was lost ) - they had the cutest throttle stop - maybe next year she will graduate to a AAA! Filled up in kap again , then a great dinner at Ellies in smooth rock (our favorite food place). all gassed up and ready to do Abitibi (4 oil jugs and 1 linq can) , late lunch in SR/Ellie’s then onto Timmins tomorrow. Hoping weather holds . Friday will be a mess getting back to New Liskeard and trailer home (7 hrs), but we will play it as it comes. If we have to stay a night won’t be an issue. All part of the adventure. Only have 45 miles going east out of timmins at start of AM on Friday that I won’t have fresh GPS tracks back to New Liskeard .

  29. Considering sadly that snowmachines might be around only one or two more generations after us.....trail change talk might be moot !! ......heck we are already seeing younger generations no longer interested in the " car culture" ......forced on us electric self driving cars 20 yrs from now !! .........boy they will need to pry my gas engine cars, boats, snowmachine and Atv , etc from my dead hands ! !

  30. Just got in from Tall Pines trails. Best I've ever been on. Not a single bump. 115k. No road running was a bonus

  31. True. My bud rode the wife's 900 Ace yesterday and he said "You know, this thing does everything you need it to. Its plenty fast for trail riding."

  34. As the title says, I’ve lost my wallet and keys. Parked at the groomer shed on Hwy 10 this morning. Rode to Markdale then to the Homestead for lunch. After lunch I put my truck keys and wallet in my handlebar bag but didn’t close the zipper all the way. we ran north from the Homestead through the east of Durham over to Markdale then down the railbed to the truck without noticing. Sitting here waiting for my son to drive me the backup set from home. if anyone has any information on the wallet, please let me know. Ride was good at least…..lol
