  3. Took the princess for a ride today. Trails from 830am until about noon were really good with some expected bad spots and roads were partial snow / scrape. Than the snow started to turn very mushy, corners were pushing for sure, some were on wrong side, but traffic was real light and some more rocks poking through. Trails were flat and nicely set up. Fuel at MTH and lunch was boiler room. Lakes are in great shape though, good for some high mph runs.

  5. To better clear up the distance between points along a ride from Searchmont up to Dubreuilville I am going to post some more distances. If you open the ITG Map posted by the OFSC you can touch all segments of the official trails and add them together to get very accurate distances. I used the free Polaris app on my phone to monitor distances which proved to me that the ITG is good to use. My start from Searchmont was at the Driftwood Valley Lodge. D Trail north to split at the D201F Trail to Black creek 30 miles D Trail to split @ C101D to Chapleau 31 miles D Trail to Halfway 21 miles D Trail to split @ Wawa5 Trail 56 miles Wawa5 Trail to split @ D Trail 9 miles D Trail back towards Wawa to split @ Wawa7 Trail 2 miles Wawa7 Trail (continue past split @ Wawa6 Trail) to Dub5 Trail at Magpie River 6 miles Dub5 Trail on Magpie River to D Trail 19 miles D Trail to Dubreuilville via Green Lake 8 miles Just over 180 miles from Searchmont to Dub using OFSC Trails. Using the same route to Wawa Motor Inn or gas without scraping all around the city trails just stay on Wawa7 towards Wawa Lake and then across the lake to Wawa. This minimizes the street running. Just turn into the trail past the school and then turn right. It dumps you out at the Motor Inn. Part way through cut out at Wawa Retal and circle through to the Petrocan station for fuel. The total distance to Wawa gas is about 140 miles from Searchmont by these trails using Wawa Lake. We carry the LINQ 4 gallon extra can on our Doo’s which are 4-stroke Turbo Sleds plus we have and additional 2 gallons in our saddle bags for safety. Our 800 Cat only carries 3 gallons extra because the tank is much bigger. You need to know your sled and carry what gives you a safety margin. Do not plan on this if a blizzard is forecast. Watch the ITG for conditions of the trail. Spring time conditions are coming into play around towns, but that is just part of riding in warmer conditions. We plan to ride out of the Driftwood in Searchmont this coming Thursday March 16 mid-afternoon. Running up to Chapleau to start a loop around the top. Searchmont to Chapleau Thursday Chapleau to Cochrane Friday Cochrane to Hearst. Saturday Hearst to Dubreuilville Sunday Dubreuilville to Chapleau Monday Chapleau to Searchmont Tuesday

  6. Great sled for Quebec where speed limit is 70. Can you just imagine riding the trail from LSQ to Chibougamau with a 70 KPH sled or the C trail from SRF to Timmins.

  7. Last week Friday we drove up to Searchmont and parked at Driftwood Valley which was a first this season. We rode out at 1:00pm sharp and arrived at the gas pumps in Dubreuilville at 6:05pm with the GPS saying we had gone 180.3 miles. We stopped at the warming shack where all 3 groomers come together from different directions and a few more times for breaks and once to dump our 4 gallon cans of fuel. We did not go into Wawa and saved miles and time. We took the Magpie which was perfect. After a night in Hearst we were back for a 2nd night in Dub. Then we had breakfast in Wawa the following morning and gassed up for the trip to Chapleau. We stopped at Halfway just to look around and then continued towards the Chapleau turnoff which is no longer 8.6 miles south of Halfway but rather 21 miles south at the warming shack. This is where all three groomers drive to. When Halfway suddenly left hundreds of sledders hanging last season, the Chapleau and Soo clubs changed the Chapleau run to hookup with the Soo so at least some could sled through Chapleau from points south. from this point 21 miles south of Halfway the Chapleau trail distance is 71 miles into the gas station. Moose horn Lodge is quite a bit less. I am guessing maybe 20 miles? spent the night at Valentines and shot down to Searchmont to head home Tuesday morning. The run from the gas station to the Driftwood left the gas gauge reading over a quarter tank so no extra gas needed that day with beautiful trails. We did put 1 gallon of extra fuel in to go from Wawa to Chapleau although it might not have been needed. We were on Doo 900 Turbo R Renegades which can get 15 mpg when not hammering the throttle. All those trails were fantastic and in better shape than I can ever remember. We both carried the LINQ 4 gallon extra gas tank and 2 one gallon cans in our saddle bags so we each had 6 gallons of extra gas. Depending on conditions you may need the extra, but perfect trails meant that if you stop at Wawa only the 4 gallon would ever be needed. 900 plus miles of the BEST TRAILS ever.

  8. Parts of fergus were absolutely mint this morning. Managed to put on 90km. hillsburgh, Dundalk, parts of Orangeville were very good yesterday. Wife and I did 190km and it was awesome! Plenty of snow out there! There are definitely some thin areas, but no biggie considering the winter we’ve had. I know a guy that went to Durham today and he said he’s never seen it so good!

  13. I can't speak for current but a few weeks ago we found the following: -NB308 had some road running the wasn't too much fun. -The D trail from Asterville to Trout Lake was a tough ride and especially from Hwy 17(Mr.Gas) which seems to be normal -If your wife isn't partial to tight twisty trails she probably won't like A104D -The Bonfield Club trails south of Lake Nosbonsing were amazing. -Everything else we were on was awesome except the trail from the A up into Mattawa which was real bad on a Tuesday

  15. I have them here. Everyone wastes them. If you seal them back in a plastic bag they can be reused. Smallest bag is ideal. Cuts oxygen off and stops reaction. Great tip for saving them for after lunch 😎

  16. Thanks for the updates on your routes. It has been so long, since we have been south of Hawk, I forgot about the firesands trail, and linking back to hawk, wawa, magpie that way. I really miss the Surluga road trail, that was one of the trails I remember the most when we rode wawa a lot. Starting to feel human again Scott. we will be up but, I think by the time you get to Dub, we will be on our way back to Michigan. sorry we will miss one another again. I might take the group down the F trail, to dog lake, then to Manitouwik, and to hawk, then back the D trail, or magpie. havent been on the lake loop in years. beautiful scenery thataway. enjoy your trip! 20. Sure seemed that way. We were playing on the lake and for march break there weren't many sleds going by. Even this morning in town i couldnt hear any sleds on the trail. In years past it'd be moguls and snirt by noon on march break. Maybe everyones in Florida.

  21. Trail was groomed a few days prior to us getting there, had a skiff of fresh on it. road was in the same shape, plowed for the warm up, and a fresh skiff on it. it was the I will ride where I want to mentality. now it will be plowed tight and sanded... there wont be any way around it, until we get some fresh. if we get some fresh. kind of a moot point for me now... I developed a cold or something on weds, and I aint feelin too hot (well yeah I am), right now. ah, you know what I mean. Ski

  22. Go ride a demo. New ones are 95 hp. You might be surprised. NA and the 130 hp turbo are both good options.

  23. One pic looks aerial. Is that from a cliff near town? Or did you fly in and rent somewhere? (The Rock?) Looks like you got around and did some sledding, while the rest of us sat here and talked aboot it! .

  24. I could gather the route he took, just wanted him to be more specific for those that needed more "help" in the area. I am a pain in the butt, that way. LOL! on a good snow year, and catching a snow fall, you could bypass a bit more trail, and take a few roads, local trails, not groomed. I just like bustin Scott's balls, he rides more than I do, and I have a place there. Ski

  25. Ski, I am a trail rider only and know almost no short cuts in the area, but have ridden south from Dub on Dub5(Magpie),to the D trail jogged 3 or 4 km east on D(North), then south on Wawa5 around Wawa, back onto D south to Searchmont. That totalled just over 300 km. I am fairly certain that I have used the same route northbound, avoiding Wawa, using Wawa5, D and Dub5 to get to the Magpie. (Paper District 13 maps only) I think I have that correct as I am old haven't been there since 2019.

  27. Thank you for the great report with accurate mileages - very helpful. Glad that you had such a good trip, the kind that make it worth staying in the sport.

  28. My dealer was a big Cat dealer years ago and now has no Cats on the floor and only sold 2 sleds this season. They told me that Cat shut down all sled dealers in the state of Indiana and some wanted to continue. it seems like Cats are very high priced and I have a hard time ordering what I have only read about and can’t sit on.

  29. Some interesting "out of the box" ideas for sure. I agree that the sport needs new ideas to continue to be viable. My thoughts are simplistic in comparison, I would like to see some functionality on the OFSC Trail map: 1. FCMQ has has a layer which shows when last groomed, why can't the OFSC map do the same; (Heck, New Brunswick shows the groomer in real time.) 2. I would like a third color (purple?) which identifies road running, and or bridges when the trail is open but be advised lack of snow. I see some clubs flip to Yellow for lack of snow, but no snow for a few KM's is a whole other matter for sleds. Example, the section in red is a long bridge, which is a road way, I expect that the club has identified that there is no snow on the bridge, not that the province told the OFSC that snowmobiles can't use the bridge. Flip that section to Purple - no snow road way. As we all know, no snow on roadways or shoulders is very different than in the dead of winter when the ground is at least frozen. Also, I'm not talking about simple road crossing, I'm flagging when we have to drive along a road for hundreds of meters, and it is dirt, or rocks, or bare pavement. My 2 cents.

  30. Ontario F7 and I launched from Birds Creek today, just north of Bancroft. Rode up trail 175 to Madawaska and stopped for fuel, and we ran into SKSMAN from the forum. Rode across the freshly groomed B trail into Barry’s Bay and had lunch at Balmoral Hotel. After lunch we rode down trail 157 to the lookout point. Rode over to Whitney for more gas and then back down towards Bancroft. Finished the day off with some fun on Baptiste Lake before heading back to the parking lot. It was a beautiful day for my first time riding in 2 years. Thank you OF7 for letting me ride your spare sled. 👍
