  1. Thanks gobills for poking the bear. Your post brought about a flurry of activity. This being Family Day weekend, after a positive snow conditions rebound, hopefully there will be plenty of trail reports tonight, tomorrow and Tuesday.

  2. What 4 cyl SUV vehicle do you pull it with? Please dont say RAV4 or anything like that. I honestly dont think you are going to be able to tow a 2 place enclosed properly unless it a hot rod turbo charged engine. I own a TC167 and my wifes Honda Pilot with a 3.5 V6 struggled to pull it. Not becuase of the motor but the crappy 6 speed transmission that Honda used. Her 22 Bronco with 2.7 V6 seemed to pull ok but again the trans that Ford put it in wasnt really the best for towing. My wife just got a 23 Highlander with a 2.4 Turbo and I am sure it would pull in a pinch, I am not even bothering to put a hitch on it as I think it would suck balls towing on a 400 series highway. (yes, she goes through a lot of cars). As mentioned, your motor might pull it in a straight line, but you need to make sure that your chassis and brakes can actually handle the trailer. I think a 6 x 12 single enclosed with a ramp door is probably the best route for you.

  3. Freshly groomed in hgr. Headed toward baysville and decided to give the B trail a try to lake st Nora. Some logging but enough snow for cooling, some really good sections after that then the often neglected Haliburton section which was as usual neglected. Hopped on 64 to kawagama its minty, topped up at Mountain trout house, up d101 in good shape to the asc shelter for a nice long break then did 65, 67 in good shape and back d101 to Dorset then it got nasty till we got to Baysville. Found a cell phone on d101, dropped it off at cast iron and had a great burger. Returned to Port sydney. 256kms. The water hole by pioneer camp pit has opened up so be careful till we get some snow. All in all a great day!

  5. Looking like we might get a little more out of this winter. Next couple weeks look cold.. let's hope the storm comes in on Wednesday/Thursday with lots of snow.

  6. Rich, Zertrider and Johnny_5oh, thanks for the Tree Bears recommendations. Couldn't get the night that we wanted there, but have reconfigured our trip so that we are there on a different night, and that got us in. Will have report next week.

  7. I haven’t been a two-stroke guy since 2004. I really love my four strokes. Wanted to try something different and the RAVE is a blast to ride. The suspension is incredible, soaks up anything in front of it you don’t have to pick a line. Big G outs are not a concern. Certainly is fun for some of the trails around my area but certainly does not do many things. The SRX does. I had the RAVE on a Quebec trip and it is not meant for that, the SRX is ideal for those kinds of trails.

  8. I forgot to update, I ended up buying from these guys, price is good, shipped fast and the cover works good. Tried PA first, but out of stock by me - likely the same one they sell as well. The cover fits my sled perfectly too, figured there might be some issues since they are all different.

  9. A couple of the "hunt camp" type places we stayed at that generally charge at the end of your stay for gas, lodging and drinks, were up there as well. There is a price to stay at these places vs. a motel/hotel in more rural areas, but the "hunt camp" locations are where the better memories from the trips over the years generally come from, IMO!

  10. Good to to hear the flip side! Price of gas went down a buck a litre too!!!! Was there still a min purchase to buy as well? Maybe the criticism from last year has paid off, the loacl clubs and base camp worked out the differences of opinions or the new ownership is already in effect. Either way, the loop and the base camp is a big part of that region and everyone benefits if all are working in harmony!

  11. I was in the lead and didn't see it or hear it. I ended up several kms down the trail (next intersection) where I stopped and waited per std procedure. I signal all on coming traffic. Not sure how the other sledder got away with it but I believe that his sled went down when my buds went up and threw him. Not a lot of visible damage, but the contact was spindle to spindle. Must have been a huge jerk to the handle bars.

  12. This thread has been very negative toward the Base Camp. My experience as a first time visitor in January was the guy was trying his best. The fuel pump guy was there alone when we were there on a Thursday. The inside lady / cook was on a supply run. In my mind we were treated with respect and gratitude No attitude towards us. There was no food inside for which he apologized greatly to us as he was only guy there but that’s life We carried enough trail snacks that it wasn’t necessary. He gave us free coffee I also notice positive posts from the Polar BearRiders thanking Steve I believe and Base Camp for taking good care of their groomer operator. Is the new ownership having a positive impact? Or has staff been made aware you can’t be Dick’s? I get it’s probably stressful when there are 100 sleds all wanting fuel and 3/4 of the guys are bitching about price Either way it appears to be much better experience yes gas is $5.00/ litre (we spent $300 in our group of 6) but it’s expected so don’t complain 2 of our group were big mileage riders from Quebec and both said that was one of their favourite trails now. We will go again

  13. So my Learned Friend, who normally gives me good information, was wrong about Gowganda Lake Lodge. They returned my email and are still catering to sledders, ATVers and bikers. Great place to stay, winter or summer.

  14. Tree bears was great a few years ago. We were in New 2 bedroom cabins. Meals were great. Gas in town then. Would definitely go back..

  15. Yep Triton's got expensive. PR 147 is close to $25k now. Basically the equivalent of that trailer from Beckner, but shorter. My Triton clamshell has been a good trailer, but can't see buying another one given the price difference between them and some pretty nice trailers from their competitors.

  16. a bit of both. Up from the clubhouse, over through Wilberforce and up the 601 to the E. I did the Mink Lake trails off the 109 and then over to the rail trail just above lake St Peter. Then I took the 109 back to the E and back to the clubhouse.

  17. I was just thinking after I posted this that the best way to describe it is I’ve been on these trails many times when there green and they’re in a lot worse shape than they are now being yellow so that should give you some hope

  18. No need to cancel. The trails are good. The base is a little bit hard but still lots of lube. Ithe trails are great. All the way right to Espinola. Obviously gets a little bit bumpy when you’re close to Elliot Lake, but other than that the trails are really good. I would not head down their trail to Spragge as anything along The highway is never good. . There’s not much in Spanish anymore so you’re better to go to Massey. The only issues at all or is that anywhere there is a creek or a swamp is it starting to come across the trail and it’s a little sketchy in places so you just have to be aware of that. Other than that the trails are excellent. supposed to be fairly warm tomorrow but later in the week they’re calling for a bunch of snow. Anyway, if you’re looking to get some riding, I definitely would not cancel I would come.

  19. Sounds like a 12 foot aluminum clam is what you are looking for unless you have a decent towing capacity. Here is another suggestion: Triton TC128-LR Ramp rear door and 14 inch wheels. Weighs 1000# and will carry 2000#.

  22. We had an amazing day, there were vintage sleds, a bonfire for the kids to toast marshmallows to compliment their hot chocolate, bean bag tossing, etc. Our auction was a huge success and the professional auctioneer added to the lively action. Many of our local businesses and merchants donated some great items for the auction. Many many thanks to everyone that came out, watching people bid up to $70.00 for a hat from a local business was so great to see as everyone knew the money was for a great cause.

  23. Thanks for asking. I thought I repost what Josh Fuller wrote on FB. Photos later, Super Bowl first Words cannot describe the overwhelming amount of support we received yesterday at Bervie Community Centre. Although, we couldn't ride the awesome trails in the area we ended up having one of my most memorable days I have ever had in my snowmobiling career, from looking at all the "Old school" snowmobiles and just talking about memorable moments we have all had snowmobiling. I consider me a strong man, but I tell you when members of Bervie Community Centre donated to our cause.... It brought me to tears!!! From the bottom of my heart I thank you all for your support!!!

  24. This is what sticks in my craw, we the permit buyers pay for that trail to exist and be maintained throughout the season. These jerkoff clowns are gouging the hands that feed them to the point it's absolutely sickening.

  25. Hit and run! A good friend of mine is currently in the hospital (Mont Laurier) after a hit and run on the #13 trail just north of Neuve Ferme at 4pm, yesterday, Friday Feb 17th. Sled that hit him was blue, he thinks it looked like a Polaris but who knows. His injuries include all of his ribs are broken and a punctured lung. He's currently in intensive care and will be for weeks to come. Anyone with knowledge of this please let me know or better yet, the Mt Laurier police. It has been reported of course. This is unacceptable and a hit of this magnitude would not go UN-noticed. Please help! These idiots have to be stopped or next time it will be our wives or daughters. After this, my sleds will be up for sale.
