  1. Hi Everyone, It's Official! Welcome to the 2021/22 Winter Season in Sault Ste. Marie. I was north of the city today in the mountains. Riding was good with 10" of snow. Like clockwork, the 3rd week of November is always mountain riding time north of city and is a tradition I enjoy year-after-year. A temporary warm-up is forecasted, however, cooler temperatures to follow. Dan-Senior Sault Ste. Marie

  2. North of Sault Ste. Marie is looking good. Great for local riders, but not so much for those that need to trailer and spend dollars on fuel and accommodations. Riding is currently limited to bush trails / roads at higher elevations. I was out yesterday and will likely get out again tomorrow.

  3. we need a forum "ride in", we could schedule it for whatever works better for the most people. some could stay at our place, if they would like. bounce back and forth between, hearst, and dub, or other options. great way to put faces to names, meet, and put forum silliness behind us. maybe a loop around the "Big Loop" where people join and depart as they see fit... Hearst, Hornepayne, Dubreuilville, Wawa, Chapleau via Halfway Haven, Folyette, Timmins, Cochrane, Smooth Rock Falls, Kap... you know, "the thing". Ski

  5. Ski Hill was in Searchmont riding with some of the trailblazers. We stayed at the Blueberry and met John Breckenridge at his home. Then we did the loop around on the D Trail and SSM5.

  6. They were from our last Ontario big loop before the border closed. A week in February of 2020. We spent only one day/night in Dubreuilville and I don't take as many pictures as I used to take. Pictures were from Elliot Lake to Dunlop Lake to Goulais River Valley to Dub to Hornepayne to Moonbeam Clubhouse to Smooth Rock Falls to Timmins to Foleyet to Chapleau to Searchmont to D trail. My brother from AZ. missed a turn and the bridge on C101D between Foleyet and Chapleau. No fish were hurt. Great trip and got to see Dan-Senior, & Nunz at the Dunlop Lake Lodge.

  7. I dont think they mail you a sticker anymore? You just buy it online, print off the temp permit and away you go. We did Gaspe 2 years ago and half the guys just bought week long permits. We got pulled over 3 times and never had an issue just showing the receipt.

  8. It's fairly easy. We waited to do it just a few days prior to our trip, in case of weather etc. When we were stopped near Amos, we just showed the trail guys, and the QPP, our printed copies and the copies on our phones, they matched that to our ownership and license, and we were off. No issues at all....

  9. Yes, it is the Blueberry Flats on SSM2 which is across Hwy 17 from the Blueberry Motel and Campgrounds. The Goulais River Valley at the bottom of Blueberry Hill coming down from Heyden on 17. You are correct. All the pictures following the one showing us parked at the Hampton Inn in Elliot Lake are all taken between Seachmont and Goulias River on the D trail. Coops Crossing and the power line from Searchmont is a great trail. The sunset was at the end of the elevations and you can just see the Goulias Bay shinning which is part of Lake Superior. The very last picture is part of the D108A north of Hornepayne about halfway to Hwy 11. I don't know how the pictures get out of order? Where you see a portage sign on a tree was way back in maybe 10 miles off Dunlop Lake as we followed lakes and looked for ways to go deeper. It is fun, but easy to get turned around when everyone in the group is running tracks in all directions and sometimes there are 3 portages leaving a lake. Dan-Senior showed us some of that area and we always like searching for more trails. Snow was not real deep so we had fun.

  16. Greg. Just go online before your trip, sign up and pay for a 7 day permit. You can print out the copies, and get a copy emailed to you, that you can show on your phone, and you can also carry your printed version as proof. It's easy. We did ours just a few days before we left.

  20. Imo, I would have stayed at the Comfort Inn, Super 8, or the Advantage. The Travelodge is road running iirc correctly, and I am not really sure running the field is a good idea, as the kap snow rovers have had issues with alot of tresspassing in and around town. Might be something to investigate further. The "field" is the golf course iirc....So that's a no. And also I am pretty sure that's where the Kap Snow Rovers have had issues in the past..

  21. We need some people from Kap on this forum again since there are a lot of OCer's that travel through & around there. It would be good to be able to get first hand info.

  22. Thanks for the picture AC+YA, Just booked the "Snowmobilers package" at Cedar Meadows today for Jan 17 to 21st , Hoping to run into some OC'ers while in Timmins and area. Hopefully we won't need the hair dryers to start the sleds, but I will take my looft lighter (a hair dryer on steroids for lighting charcoal BBQ's) just in case

  23. You are correct @AC+YA. I remember that. We had the rooms in the corner, just out of view in your picture, on the left hand side. Awesome conditions then.

  25. Cedar Meadows Taken in the parking lot where you also can park sleds. Plugs available along fence for engine heaters or borrowed hair dryers.

  27. Our club philosophy is that a volunteer gives generously of their time. There is no expectation that they be saddled with out of pocket expenses related to those volunteer activities (gas, wear/tear on personal equipment). If a club volunteer submits an expense claim for vehicle mileage, gas for atv/chain saw, new chain for chain saw etc. it is paid with thanks. The reality is that nobody submits these claims because they see it as another way of supporting the club. On rare occasions something unusual will come up and the club looks at those on a case by case basis. A good example was a volunteer was doing some early packing on their sled on a bad piece of trail that was severely damaged by atv traffic. Sled got caught in a rut and rolled on its side breaking a side panel. The club bought the new part and the volunteer installed it. Everyone went home happy. Trail signage is done by 1 or 2 volunteers doing their assigned sections. Usually no expenses incurred there as they work their own schedules as time permits. For larger projects (trail routes, brushing, bridge redecking etc) that have larger worker parties (usually 8-12 people) or the location is remote, someone will organize an on trail lunch (paid for by club) that could be chilli, sandwiches etc. If its a relatively short day we might just go to a restaurant (1 that buys a map ad) and have lunch. No alcohol reimbursed.
