  1. There is evidence of substantial reno occurring at Caswell, with piles of old materials etc piling up outside. Time will tell how extensive and effective they are.

  2. I have a spare DESS key for both my sleds. All keys are programmed to work on either sled, so 4 keys total that work on 2 sleds. I have never needed the 2nd key, but keep it tucked hidden in the sled if I happen to be out and lose the one I have when stopped for lunch, or trailering etc...

  3. The president of the club should be a sitting member of the district board.

  4. That is pretty much the case now. That being said the club presidents would likely be @ district meetings where pay rates are discussed.

  5. Not many Dess Keys fail. Been a DESS post or 2 that have had bad connections, corrosion etc. Which most likely relates to how the sled is cared for..

  6. I was not intending to hijack the thread by mentioning Mountain View. Since you mentioned them we have had many successful nights there and even with the new owners had nothing but great restful sleeps and excellent breakfasts. Not sure if the owner still helps out with the local club as they had a disagreement a few years ago about the groomer parking on his property. Jerry

  7. It may very well be that what passes for good quality and excellence is different in other countries than what is expected here. In the case of the Pinewood in Barry's Bay, the previous owners were always upgrading and making improvement to the facility including some not usually noticed by patrons - better ventilation, hard wood floors, better mattresses etc. and promoted a sense of concern for the environment. I hope they received a good return on their initial investment and hard work. Thanks Grover for the mention of the Mountain View by Wilno - had no reason to try it out before but reviews are good and it is right on the trail.

  8. Looks like someone that is new on the ofsc is going by the book. He said that it could be a conflict. The pres can say how much they get paid and how much they can groom. I agree with Nutter that when the dist is desiding on pay on payed posetions that the pres of the club has no vote. So the Dist sets the pay amount and the club groomer cordinator organizes the grooming. so what is the problem

  9. Not seeing the rationale in this. Our district pays groomer operators a wage based on years of experience. It isn't much of a gap from low to high, and it is done at district, not voted on by club board members. I am a trail work volunteer for the last few decades (55 kms worth currently), groomer operator for last 10+ years, and this year, second time in 30 years, a club board member, only because the need for representation from my area is needed. Lots of riders around here, but most are "too busy" to do anything more than pay a couple hundred bucks for a pass, and offer "constructive criticism".

  10. I would have no issue with helmet freedom of choice only if the user has signed off, agreeing to personally pay all medical expenses from head injuries caused due to not wearing a helmet. IMHO our health system should not have to cover the cost of same.
